Yes, it will be so good to see you again - but, oh, how I will miss reading your blogs and your wonderful pictures. Out of all the pictures you have shown on here - 757 at the last count - I have actually found a favourite for my desktop. It is also a very recent one. See if you can guess what my favourite is. I'll reveal it later, and I'd also be interested to hear what other people's favourites are. > ..fish.. |

| 25th April 2007 Lee | Welcome to Las Vegas - From: Viva Las Vegas! Ah...finally a place I went to before you!!! Sarah “took me there” (i.e. I paid for it!) for my Birthday (November just gone)…..(Happy birthday by the way mate ; ) You will be going back there….with me! We loved it, stayed in New York New York, saw loads, still more we wanted to see. We did the rides on top of the Stratosphere - yes even Sarah! (apart from the ‘Big shot’ which I did on my own) - it scared the living S**T out of me - wicked!!! Missing u guys, can’t wait to see you when you get home….hurry up!! |
| 23rd April 2007 SharkStalker | No Stratosphere - From: Viva Las Vegas! Jan - Don't tell we the rides are great cause we didn't get to the Stratosphere - still I kinda feel that Vegas is a place I may end up visiting again.... Matt |
| 23rd April 2007 SharkStalker | Squiffy guides - From: Beginning at the end of the road Scott, thanks for your comments. You should send your info into the Lonely Planet as their Route 66 guidebook ends the road at the corner of Santa Monica and Ocean Blvds. Nevermind. We missed that Wigwam hotel but stayed in the one in Holbrook instead. Cheers, Matt |
| 23rd April 2007 Jan | Las Vegas - From: Viva Las Vegas! Ah...but did you go on the rides at the top of the Statosphere Hotel???? I stayed at the New York New York but my favorite hotel was the Belagio....especially the fountains...fanatastic place! |
| 23rd April 2007 ..the fish.. | FigaroHere, Figaro There! - From: Beginning at the end of the road Hey, young dude, was it just a coincidence that the car, you pictured outside The Magic Lamp Inn, looks remarkably like the Nissan Figaro you had in Waltham Abbey not a million years ago? I did a double take when I saw it - even the red is a similar shade! > |
| 23rd April 2007 ..the fish.. | All Play and No Work - From: Kissing Dolphins and Tequila for Breakfast! Old saying: "All play and no work make Matt a poor boy!" Ah, work - yes, how I remember that! Stop off in Dublin on the way home, guys, coz yer daddy just got a new permie job there! I'll send you an address when I've got one. > |
| 23rd April 2007 ..the fish.. | Heads I Win - No Heads You Lose! - From: Chicken Pizza Captain of the losing team beheaded, eh? Someone should suggest that to FIFA - it'll make the next World Cup a darn sight more interesting! > |
| 23rd April 2007 Baron Von Bonnethausen | Good effort - From: Viva Las Vegas! Well done guys - Vegas sounds a hoot, shame you didnt do a shotgun wedding by Elvis witnessed by Maralyn. Call me old fashioned but thats how a wedding should be - none of this English church stuff, dunno what women see in them - ha ha ;-)) Take care out there fella and fellerette. |
| 23rd April 2007 Scott Piotrowski | The End is the Beginning - From: Beginning at the end of the road Three quick comments ... 1) The official western terminus of Route 66 is at Broadway and 7th in Downtown LA. In 1936, when the highway was extended to Santa Monica (for 28 years), it ended at Lincoln and Olympic. Still not at the Will Rogers plaque at Santa Monica and Ocean. That plaque, by the way, was just put back in its place a couple of weeks ago after being damaged by a drunk driver. 2) You should have gone a few miles further for your first night's stay. You could have slept in a Wigwam at the Wigwam Motel in Rialto. Great place. The Patels have done an outstanding job restoring the motel. It is quickly becoming the crown jewel of 66 in California. 3) I won't get into what all was missed between Pasadena and La Verne, but suffice it to say there's a lot there. It's a common misconception that there is nothing left of 66 in LA County. But, that being said, I completely understand the need to make time sometimes. That's what the superslabs are for. Enjoy your trip. Happy travels. |

| 10th March 2007 Fish | Been There - Done That! - From: Ice Ice Baby Well, 'done that' - true; but 'been there' - false. However, did you know that a photo exists of your dad, aged 15, standing similarly in a narrow tunnel of the Rhone glacier in Switzerland? That was back in 1962, but I will never forget that typical blue/green hue of the ice; and it looks exactly like it does surrounding you guys in the pictures. Keep blogging! > |

| 17th January 2007 baon Von Bonnett Hausen | Luv toys. - From: A real Home from Home guys - just seen the Echinida warning sign - I may have some sort of porn vision going on here, but it looks remarkably like a 'adult massage' toy Ive seen advertised (Aherm) in adult interest pamphlets - I can see why aussis seem soo happy now! Take care funsters. |
| 2nd January 2007 Jan | Colour part 2 - From: Meandering Sydney I was feeling slightly bad about sending you comments about your colourless photos but having opened this blog directly after sending my comment, I'm now glad that I did!!! You can't have a black and white carousel horse!!! Sacrilege!!! Loving your work as ever and Happy New Year! I hope it's better for you than last year....how can it be!!!!xxx |
| 2nd January 2007 Jan | Colours! - From: Sacrificing banana muffins, hunting down the Brokenwood Graveyard and our hotel in the fog! More colours please!!!! |
| 29th December 2006 Franco | Long Neck Girl. - From: The Search for the LongNecks Wow, didn't know the custom of stretching necks still exists. Pictures of them were pretty, yet at the same time sad. I worry about their future and possible pain they may have to go through. |
| 29th December 2006 Matt Lightbourn | Sid and Knee - From: Meandering Sydney Well there's a thing. Knee sidding - I suppose you took a boat out to Watson's bay and take a gander at the back of the opera house and check out the scariest looking spiders ever? Also, I don't know if you ended up looking for a bar or restuarant up Oxford Street - definately a funny place to be when you're upwardly standing continually - there is even a bar next to a fantastic cambodian restuarant which is is aptly named "The Toolbox". Men only - bring your greeseproofs! Glad to see you guys are faving hun - enjoy your kremlin. By the way, dad found something I wrote about a three leged greyhound with a collapsed lung which brought back a few memories - remind me to remind you about it later. I even have that letter you sent to me when you lived in Rothesay where it was covered in "Scud" and "shine" everywhere. Suprised that letter ever reached me except for the message "Postman, follow the arrows"! Nice Speak soon you shiny boned template of john merrick's catasrophic ending mixed with a bag of reumpold stiltskins embryo salt and photographic tad pole implants with telapathic constituants from Bulivia and the great beyond! |
| 27th December 2006 Baron Von Bonnett Hausen | Luv Dup - From: Meandering Sydney Watcha fealla and feller'ette - so, I finally managed to check out my spam and there was you're blog - sorry mate. Its not spam at all, or baloney even ;-) ... Top photos as always Mr West, havent seen any of you in them as yet, but to be honest I've only just started the look through - me and Mrs Von B will be most dissapointed if there arent any purely unnessasary pictures of female flesh and Mr West pretending to be taking picture of the 'scenery' ha ha - we know you!! Anyhow - back to the beer, wine and chilling out for me and the good lady - wish you both well and will let you know bout the next meet for an adventure! Was thinking Vegas and the chicken ranch.....now that would be an adventure - women wouldnt appreciate it much though ha ha.... laters good people.. |

We look forward to seeing pics of you and Jen spending Christmas day on Bondi Beach, with a turkey on the barbie and a few tinnies of Swan in the coolie! Legend has it, down under, that Santa's sleigh is pulled by six white boomers; ask any kids there if that's true. Love and hugs to the pair of you - see you some time next year. ..fish.. |
