I'm a little behind as I didn't update my travelblog after my LONG day yesterday. It was a really good day but it was extremely long and I was exhausted by the end of it. Wow! Today went by really quickly too as I got up around 6:30am, crawled off my bed that I had sunk into during the night, and drug myself over to the KOA bathroom to put in my contacts and freshen up. I hit the road by 7:00am only to find that right when I hit I-30, a big accident had just occurred and traffic was pretty backed up for about 40 miles. Whew! I can't believe that day one of my trip is already over. It was a pretty long day as I didn't take off from Alabama until around 8:30am. And it was a very hot day, around 105 if you include the heat index and one of my arms got really sunburnt. Not much to report today, just the exciting life of solo roadtrips. Location: Lake Jocassee in the Cherokee Foothills about an hour or so west of Spartanburg, SC There's nothing like a large, blue, glistening lake to bring out the fish in us all. This past weekend, I spent a couple days in Wilmington, NC where I spent 5 months on exchange last year. The whole trip up there started out a little rough as Friday, after only a few hours sleep (yes, watching the midnight premiere of The Dark Knight was not the best idea when you have to get up and be ready by 8:30am) I stumbled down to my car around 9am, cursing the sunlight, and wishing I could just go back to bed. Wow, the past few weeks have gone by incredibly fast and I have just under 3 weeks left here before I move on again to my next big adventure before making my way back to Alaska (which is in itself another adventure). Tonight, since it was a nice day and the rain had finally stopped, my roommate Sarah and I went out walking to Columbia Hall to check on my car, over to the State House a few blocks away, around the Horseshoe, down by a little coffee and catering shop to snag a pic of Ingrid and Bogie, up to the building where we work, across to the library, and back to Rutledge Hall where we live (also on the horse shoe). It's been three weeks since we've (the REU people at USC) been in South Carolina and today, I took my first step in the Atlantic Ocean via the South Carolina shoreline. I've stepped into it from North Carolina, but South Carolina was a little different. After getting stuck in a thunderstorm last night and watching GET SMART (good movie by the way), my roommate and our neighbor (a fellow REU-er) took off to Folly Beach, SC at 8am this morning for a day of fun. Finally, I have internet again (full-time now) and I can add some of the pictures from the last adventure of my roadtrip/my first full day in Columbia, SC. It's been about four days since I said goodbye to my sister and headed back to the university to meet the rest of my roommates and spend my first night in Rutledge Hall.
