I'm a little behind as I didn't update my travelblog after my LONG day yesterday. It was a really good day but it was extremely long and I was exhausted by the end of it. I also didn't feel well after I left Roswell...ohhh, I know what you're thinking. I probably picked up some mutant bug from the UFO area, but no worries...I think I'm fine now. It was a really exciting day yesterday as I left Carlsbad and headed north to Roswell, NM to tour the UFO Museum and Research Center. Roswell looked quite a bit different than what I [View Full Entry]

Wow! Today went by really quickly too as I got up around 6:30am, crawled off my bed that I had sunk into during the night, and drug myself over to the KOA bathroom to put in my contacts and freshen up. I hit the road by 7:00am only to find that right when I hit I-30, a big accident had just occurred and traffic was pretty backed up for about 40 miles. It was bumper to bumper traffic, even after I stopped at a small gas station to fill up and grab a cup of coffee. Driving into downtown Dallas with [View Full Entry]

Whew! I can't believe that day one of my trip is already over. It was a pretty long day as I didn't take off from Alabama until around 8:30am. And it was a very hot day, around 105 if you include the heat index and one of my arms got really sunburnt. Not much to report today, just the exciting life of solo roadtrips. I've come to decide a good roadtrip starts with finding a good country radio station, a couple bottles of water, and a full tank of gas before hitting a busy interstate. I started out in Tuscaloosa and [View Full Entry]

Locations: Columbia, SC; Savannah, Georgia; St. Mary's, Georgia; Cumberland island; Juliette, Georgia; Atlanta; and Tuscaloosa, Alabama Wow, so I can't believe that it has already been five days since I left Columbia, SC. It was hard saying goodbye to my friends -- especially Sarah. Our last day went pretty nicely though as my roommie and our friend, Kristi headed over to IHOP for one last breakfast before going over to Coker. We gave our powerpoint presentations in a small lecture hall in the basement to a very quiet crowd of lab techs and biology professors. I of course was being stupid [View Full Entry]

Location: Lake Jocassee in the Cherokee Foothills about an hour or so west of Spartanburg, SC There's nothing like a large, blue, glistening lake to bring out the fish in us all. This past weekend, after "X-files Friday" (which the movie was good, lots of Mulder and Scully but sadly not 'x-filish' enough for this x-philer...yes, I'm pathetic, I know the lingo and it just wasn't the same without The Lone Gunmen and the Cigarette-Smoking Man) I tried to unwind and get a good night's sleep Friday night. On Saturday morning, I showered and got out of here around 10:30am or [View Full Entry]

This past weekend, I spent a couple days in Wilmington, NC where I spent 5 months on exchange last year. The whole trip up there started out a little rough as Friday, after only a few hours sleep (yes, watching the midnight premiere of The Dark Knight was not the best idea when you have to get up and be ready by 8:30am) I stumbled down to my car around 9am, cursing the sunlight, and wishing I could just go back to bed. As I approached my car, my frown got even lower as I saw a parking ticket on my [View Full Entry]

Wow, the past few weeks have gone by incredibly fast and I have just under 3 weeks left here before I move on again to my next big adventure before making my way back to Alaska (which is in itself another adventure). It's going to be a busy 3 weeks though as this weekend I take off for Wilmington, NC to see my cousin, go scuba diving on a couple wrecks *smile*, tour around the campus that I spent 5 months of my life at, and sit on the sunny beaches of North Carolina again. Then next weekend is my Advanced [View Full Entry]

Tonight, since it was a nice day and the rain had finally stopped, my roommate Sarah and I went out walking to Columbia Hall to check on my car, over to the State House a few blocks away, around the Horseshoe, down by a little coffee and catering shop to snag a pic of Ingrid and Bogie, up to the building where we work, across to the library, and back to Rutledge Hall where we live (also on the horse shoe). I think the pictures kind of speak for themselves of the beauty of the South, but one that stood out [View Full Entry]

It's been three weeks since we've (the REU people at USC) been in South Carolina and today, I took my first step in the Atlantic Ocean via the South Carolina shoreline. I've stepped into it from North Carolina, but South Carolina was a little different. After getting stuck in a thunderstorm last night and watching GET SMART (good movie by the way), my roommate and our neighbor (a fellow REU-er) took off to Folly Beach, SC at 8am this morning for a day of fun. Along the way, we saw these girls in Columbia that looked dressed for the beach and [View Full Entry]

Finally, I have internet again (full-time now) and I can add some of the pictures from the last adventure of my roadtrip/my first full day in Columbia, SC. It's been about four days since I said goodbye to my sister and headed back to the university to meet the rest of my roommates and spend my first night in Rutledge Hall. I have to say that it has been four of the best days of my life. The day (Sunday) started though with my sister and I getting up and checking out of our ghetto hotel (it was ghetto because of [View Full Entry]
