Besides the past three days, we have had awesome weather here in Juneau this summer. It has definitely been an active one for me working 6 days a week and trying to get out on my one day off. It wears me out and makes the time go by quick, but it has also helped me make the most of this -- my last summer here in Juneau. There have been several ups and downs and difficulties, but in the end, it's all totally worth it and I'm still pretty happy. The past couple weeks have gone by quickly and can't believe that it has been a whole month since graduation. It has been busy with my trip to Fairbanks for the EPSCoR conference, working at Glacier Gardens Rainforest Adventure, hanging out with my friends, and ... read more

The end of Day One in Fairbanks was pretty sweet. The first few lectures were kind of dry and I was a little excited to get out of that lecture room during the break. But at the break, I started up a conversation with a new UAA professor who interestingly enough just moved up from Moscow, Idaho. It's a small world! She got her Ph.D at the UofI and just got hired on at UAA last August and will actually be going to Moscow this weekend to get married by Coeur d'Alene. She was a pretty nice lady and I ended up chatting with her more by the end of the night. I saw a few more people I knew then took off to the Housing Building down the road to check in. The halls are ... read more

So it's only about 12:10 but already today, I feel like I should write an update. Also, I'm kind of bored and sitting in this huge ass lecture hall by myself. waiting for the days talks to start. You read the title correct -- I am in Fairbanks! After spending a little too late last night reviewing my knowledge of fish anatomy (hehe...totally worth it), I awoke with sleepy eyes as I punched my cell phone with my palm, the alarm stirring me at 5:45a.m. What cruel joke is it to arise at this hour? Nevertheless, I pried myself from my warm sheets and spent the next 45 minutes running around my room, trying to remember what to pack, what to take. In the end, I ended up with half my hiking bag full of two ... read more

It is a beautiful sunny day here in Juneau, Alaska and I can't believe I haven't written in over two weeks. Has it really been that long? Well I guess it's safe to say that a lot has happened lately. Some major ups and downs, but nothing too life altering! This week has gone surprisingly well...a little better than last week when life was a little...disheartening. And not all things have corrected themselves, but I have had some great news that have made the bad things seem okay to deal with for now. They'll probably catch up with me again soon, but right now it is sunny, gorgeous, and I have lots to write about. First off, the title. What's up with it? Well, today was the UAS Protest against the 15% tuition increase next year. ... read more

It is Thursday, the week is almost over which makes me pretty happy. It's gone by kind of surprisingly quick though. And here I am, back In Erica Hill's class (aka the room without cell service) and in order to stay awake (also since my buddy formerly known as the coffee whore is MIA), I am typing up a blog. Actually, I really am in need of an update on my blog. SO MUCH has happened in the past week in a half. Hmm...in a nutshell: snails...friends...ice...cabin...wolf tracks...job interview...more snails...gunnel...MSU Graduate school acceptance...didn't get the job...and some awesome late night conversations. Yupp that is it in a nutshell! But since we all know that I am a girl of a ridiculous amount of words to describe little things, I'm going to fill in the gaps a ... read more

February 27th 2010

Wow, it's the end of February? When did that happen? Well since it has been some time since I have posted, I decided to share a few pictures I recently took during my Marine Ecology Lab. There is nothing like sunshine, low tide, intertidal creatures, and some whales to make you happy! How is life with me? Well...I can't complain. I've had a few minor freak outs lately including proclaiming that going abroad was a total mistake only to realize that that was a stupid proclamation. Life has been BUSY though. With my GIS class this past month, there have just been many late nights of homework and many LONG days of work. But luckily, I have some good friends around that have helped me unwind on the weekends and have been making this semester pretty ... read more

It's a Friday here in Juneau and I of course am procrastinating and not doing my homework, listening to this ridiculous song that I feel has symbolized my life over the past year. Nina Gordon, Tonight and For the Rest of My Life. It's comforting in the silence though as my apartment is empty...only for the next half hour or so and I refuse to do my homework. I've always hated doing homework on Fridays. And since my primers for my DNA research have not come in yet, I am not in the lab, spending my afternoon with a guy who seems like he's high all of the time. A fact which I am kind of thankful for. Instead, I am at home, catching up on a Grey's Anatomy episode (I've missed two already -- how ... read more

There's come a time in our life when we must take a deep breath, examine the world around us, and change the things that we have been dissatisfied with... Well, my past couple of weeks back here stateside have definitely consisted of this theme as I have engaged in many new firsts and am way excited for what else is to come. They're not necessarily amazing firsts...just different, new, and exciting. One of the best new ones was today -- my first time at Eaglecrest. I know, I know, it seems like a sin living in Juneau for almost five years now and never having gone to Eaglecrest. So today, I made the early morning expedition with Les and my two roommates - Sara and Amy. Of course we all were a little sleepy after not ... read more

Since I finally just acquired these pictures from Christmas, I had to share them all with you too. My beautiful family and friends - Idaho 2009. See the previous entry for more details but we got together with my Momma's friend Ladonna and her kids that we all grew up with - Tony, Brandy, Linda, and Danielle. And Mom, Mandi, and I took pictures with them. Then my Japanese friend came to see me!! And some family shots near Christmas. It was a great Christmas break, even though I have become as pale as a ghost. hehe!! And on a side note: A small message for the recent passing of Pat Rush, the beloved math teacher at Kendrick High School who has been fighting leukemia. Rest In Peace, Mrs. Rush! You will be missed!! P.S. I ... read more

It is 2010. Can you believe it?!? I find it pretty hard to believe at times. And yet it felt very exciting last night as I spent my first ever new years here in Juneau, Alaska. I've been back here for about two days, a return that I was actually quite dreading, but has gone pretty well so far. This is actually my first blog entry from the states since last August and so much has happened since then! Some days, the past summer seem like a whole lifetime away. Almost like a vague dream that happened so long ago, it's hard to remember the details. And there other moments where it feels like yesterday and I can still remember the feeling I had that early August morning as my friend left and I was left ... read more
