| 5th June 2008 Lisa Bogert | Hi from Lisa B. - From: Days 1-4 in SC: Columbia Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Gardens and the REU Hi Kari - I'm happy to hear that you are having a great time. It's amazing what a freeway and a little sunshine can do for one's spirit. Hopefully by now you have figured out how to maneuver through the horseshoes. Hang in there and keep us posted. We're finally moved into our new digs. It's not so bad just really off the beaten path. Take care. Lisa B. |

Although I don't agree with their beliefs; I do however agree with you- they were fighting for a "cause". I wish there were more people like this these days. Thanks so much for sharing this with me. | 26th March 2007 April Ann | Cool - From: Fun weekend of beaches... Bugg~ That is cool. I love pictures. I am so jealous. We don't even have anywhere we can call the beach. |
| 13th March 2007 morTIMer | Little fences - From: The Atlantic vs. the Pacific... Hi Sharklady, I am glad to see you are still posting photos for us to enjoy. (I sent the comment about your Alaska photos some weeks back). The little fences are there for conservation purposes as I understand. No cliffs, but we do have sand dunes on the east coast. Apparently, these small fences break just enough of the surface winds to help preserve the sand dunes, which of course, make up an important part of the wildlife habitat. I was a lifeguard on the Virginia Beach oceanfront in 1974.I saw first hand the effects of development on the beach conditions, and how it contributed to erosion and dune destruction. I don't know what tidal pooling is. I guess I have seen pictures of people relaxing in what looks a comfortable little pool in a beach rock formation. Is it something like that? Anyway, glad your studies are such that you can get away for these photo ops. My daughter is at VCU in Richmond, VA. and she has just left on a spring break to New York City with a girlfriend and their mothers! I hope to see some photos of their trip to Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty. All the best toyou Sharklady - and keep up the good work! -secureitdalby |
| 24th January 2007 tim | Large thing? Monument? - From: Down in North Carolina Again, very nice photos. You are down in my part of the country now. I live in Virginia and went to William and Mary (B.S.Biology, 1977) Don't forget Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) for graduate studies if you continue on that career path. Anyway, I wasn't sure if you were familiar with water towers of the type shown in your photo, or if you were being humorous! In Virginia, some folks call them "Devil's Doorknobs". Apparently, water held in the tower provides water pressure for local plumbing. With this style, it is much more difficult for budding artists to climb up and paint things on them! I'm going to figure out how to work the U.S. map to show which states I 've visited. So, is winter in NC almost as good as summer in Alaska? Study Hard, tim |
| 18th January 2007 morTIMer | Breathtaking Subjects - From: Quick look at the US states I've visited You take very good photos. What a fabulous set of photographic subjects. I have always wanted to visit Alaska. Maybe I will make it there yet. I want to travel to every state! Keep up the good work. I am enjoying your travels! regards, Tim |
