I just graduated from university and even though I've traveled a lot, this is my first big solo trip - hopefully many more to come! I will be spending almost all of September 2005 in Italy with one backpack and two pairs of shoes (very difficult for me to leave the other 40 pairs behind! j/k) Hopefully this will be an easier method to keep in touch with people at home. Message me!!!

My final entry for now. I'm back in Toronto and after four months away it's surprisingly easy to fit back into a schedule. I've started at George Brown College and it's a one year program that I'm really excited about and is looking to be everything I thought it would be (and more!). However this means that my traveling is over for now.. here are some photos from my last days in Sydney as well as some pictures from Hong Kong where I spent Christmas and New Years with the family.. my last week in Sydney was amazing. My parents flew down to avoid the WTO protests, and some highlights: - seeing Showstoppers at the Opera House - 3 days in the Blue Mountains, including the Jenolan Caves. They were amazing... it really took my breath ... read more

I haven't updated for awhile because the last week in Sydney was so hectic, with my parents visiting and all. Here are some of the highlights: - Blue Mountains and the Jenolan Caves. AMAZING. I'm on my dad's computer right now, but I will upload photos when I get my computer hooked up over here. - The Sleeping Beauty ballet - went to see it with my mom. It was so beautiful, I have a new appreciation for ballet... the last one I went to was Swan Lake and quite ashamedly, I fell asleep. - Multitudes of restaurants - The Tearoom, at the top of the QVB building, where I had the most amazing duck.. Fish at the Rocks where we celebrated my dad's birthday.. and all sorts of other surprises like going to find the ... read more

Couple brilliant days. Thursday, Kenji and I went to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which we've been refering to as Harry Pothead and his huge bong for some reason. It was pretty good, very entertaining, but I was disappointed that so much from the book was left out. I guess though, that the more complex the themes get on paper, the more difficult it is to a) fit it into a 2.5hr film and b) fit it into a 2.5hr film. then we were going to get cupcakes at the Cupcake on Pitt store (speaking of Pitt, Kenji's new years resolution is to get a body like Brad. Anyone else want to claim this one too?) but since we'd had about two big bags of candy and chocolate, the sugar level was disasterously ... read more

Day 80 of finding myself (one of the best explanations for long periods of travel) 41 degrees Celsius I want a snowman to be friends with Someone please make me one? The heat is overwhelming - it’s hot and gusty and stifling. I can see that if these conditions are similar to The Mistral in Arles, France then it’s no wonder Van Gogh went mad. However, apart from that I must admit that I have had an amazing two days. I went to the Art Gallery of NSW yesterday and had a brilliant time - and it was free!!! As soon as I walked in, I was confronted by more of Eugene von Guerard’s work. I had come across some of his stuff in the Melbourne National Gallery and it still takes my breath away. He ... read more

Wow. Second entry for the day but it really couldn't wait. I went to the Powerhouse Museum today and it was AMAZING! It used to be the power centre for Sydney from 1899 to 1963 and then got turned into a museum after it closed. Their exhibits are pretty much about how society has grown and evolved - I spent about 4 hours there and don't feel like I saw everything. BUT of what I did see, here are the coolest parts of the exhibits: - Vivienne Westwood had made these huge platform heels, I mean we're talking about 8 inches Spice Girls style and what actually made them famous was when Naomi Campbell tripped in them on the catwalk during a show. - All the famous architect's chairs were there: Gehry's Wiggle chair (1972), D'Urbino's ... read more

What a morning! My internet hasn't been working for the past two days so I took it to get fixed this morning. Yay! My computer has life once again! Went to the Glebe Market again on Saturday and I bought two books - one of which is 98 years old! Was so impressed that I took a photo. It's about King Arthur and his knights and the front page has an incription written in 1908 and everything. Pretty wow. There were also a lot more vendors there this weekend than last time, and this jewelry designer named Jenny. here's her website: http://www.manikmercian.com This lady is going to go far - it took every ounce of willpower not to spend money on her jewelry because I know that I have more than I will ever wear already... ... read more

Wow it's been a long time since I've written!! A whole week! Here is what has been happening: Sunday: It was freezing (ok, not as cold as Toronto...) and so I had a sleep-in and got a haircut! Very exciting all around. Ooh, and grocery shopping, and second hand book shopping. I love second hand books - they have that worn feeling that makes you think that someone else has loved them once. haha.. but yes, they are cheap and so if they are an awful read then you don't feel as badly as if you had bought them at Dymocks or Angus & Robertson. Monday: played receptionist at that same company that I did data entry for - quite boring. Thumb twiddliing 101. Tuesday: Went to the park, did some more Christmas shopping, paid my ... read more

I woke up early this morning to the sound of heavy thunderstorms, and so I went back to sleep, only to awake at noon to brilliant sunshine! The day was absolutely gorgeous, in contrast to the past few days of rain and cloudiness. So, after a quick breakfast, I made my way to Glebe Point Rd where there are all sorts of cute shops, second hand bookstores and street cafes. There was a military band playing in the park, and after watching that for a bit, I headed up to the Glebe Point Market. Every saturday, vendors take over the playground of the Glebe Public School and sell handicrafts and clothes, paintings, jewelry... it was so fun to just wander around and look at everything! I managed to get some Christmas shopping out of the way. ... read more

I've done two days of data entry now and I actually really like it! Everyone is really nice and the job is easy and the pay is really really good! It's nice to feel appreciated again... my boss today said that she's not even going to check what I did today because everything I did yesterday was perfect - and they're all so surprised that I get through everything so fast that they're running out of things for me to do. It's a really really great feeling. The company is a textbook distributor of legal material.. and tomorrow is casual Friday which means jeans and t-shirts. yay! I think they're going to be surprised that I'm only 5'7" after towering over them in my heels for two days. So now I'm sitting down with a good ... read more

Ok, exciting news of the week: I was in the Australian Geographic store in Bondi yesterday and I found the cutest stuffed emu. So I started to play with it and then I opened up the tag attached to its side and it said "My name is Sharlene". No joke. So I bought it (because it's ME, in emu size!) and have enclosed a photo. Last couple days have been relaxing. Lauren, my friend who I've known since I was 4 years old came up to visit so we did the touristy Opera House and boat cruise etc. Yesterday we walked around Bondi Junction and there was this store that sold imported candy. They had these taffy/sherbert sticks called Refreshers - I used to eat these every tuesday when I was a kid, after pottery class ... read more
