We arrived in spain excited to tour both the countryside and coast! we were lucky enough to coincidentally catch movistar KITESURF PRO PKRA 2007 WORLD TOUR in Tarifa which was an amazing sight ...these men and women are going superspeed, jetting across the water barely missing eachother, then pulling on the kite wires to launch them 30 feet or more into the air while tweaking, twisting, and twirling about for points..neat stuff. From tarifa we drove along the southern coast, stopping to camp along the way and this is when the adventure really began. our little malbec colored car "malby" began [View Full Entry]

while sipping our mint tea and brainstorming our next destination, we met a spaniard "emilio the great" who too was touring much of the world. he was nice enough to share his thoughts on seeing the high atlas mountains of morocco and the world famous sahara desert. it took all of two minutes for us to re-direct our compass to eastern morocco. due to perilous cliffs on either side of us,the twisting roads at elevation and a driver with an almost spastic pedal foot..we enjoyed the sights, sounds, and smell of 3 fellow passengers sharing their lunch on the floor [View Full Entry]

A quick thanks to all of our friends and family that have written the kind words of support, typo corrections and resentment...keep them coming!! After a brief two days of flying from South America, we touched down in Lisbon, Portugal where once again our spanish did little to help us in the way of getting around. we toured around locally to the outlying town of Cascais which was clearly too upscale for us and with the upcoming international sailing competition coming to town, housing was booked for weeks. a brief note to our government...GET THE DEFICIT UNDER CONTROL...THE DOLLAR IS [View Full Entry]

We were lucky enough to be able to spend the month of Feb in BsAs as well as a second month in May-June...the best of their summer and winter. The exchange rate of 3 to 1 allowed us to live as kings and we took full advantage of everything we couldnºt afford in the US---ATP Tennis Tourney (the Argentine equivalent to Wimbledon), the race tracks, one-on-one spanish lessons, 5 course meals with bife de lomo (filet mignon) at least once a day... we took full advantage of the $2 bottles of wine. We want to thank our two fantastic visitors--mom [View Full Entry]

Who were we to turn down an invitation to join the Geyer family at their beach house in Angra?....it just wouldn't be right. Angra is two hours south of Rio and boasts 365 islands and 2000 beaches so finding a nice white sand beach for yourself isn't terribly difficult if you boat around the endless coves. A special thanks to the Geyer family and staff that made this visit so unforgettable. The days were full of sight seeing the surrounding beaches of which "Dentist Island" I will forever day dream of with it's perfectly round coral white grains of sand [View Full Entry]

As you may notice the chronological order of our blogs are tough to follow and that is because while in brazil, rio was our safe haven to take week long road trips from. Again, the Geyer family took great care of us at their home on the very mountain corcovado stands. Surrounded by lush jungle on the hillside, we were spoiled with a wonderful breakfast every morning complete with the strong brazilian coffee i came to love...well, it was more of an addiction. We birdwatched and fed monkeys off the balcony with the help of our favorite super dog..miguelito!!..a brief [View Full Entry]

okay...and we are back!! thanks for joining us for another installment of "Where have i seen that outfit before??"... yes, yes..a backpacker rarely stresses over what to wear each day....lack of options remedy this...and luckily beach settings don~t warrant much clothing. so, enjoy the pictures of florianopolis which is a southern island of brazil that is actually home to a pretty good size city but more importantly...miles of surrounding beaches. yes, there is a theme to our brazil destinations. outside florianopolis city lies little beach towns that cater to the seasonal tourists but outsid [View Full Entry]

ahhhh...brazil. for all of you that have never been to this unique country i suggest you rent the SIMPSONS IN BRAZIL episode or check it out here: (http://s25.quicksharing.com/v/8503513/The_Simpsons_Go_to_Brazil.mpg.html) thanks to Alberto...it gives you a glimpse of the stereotypical qualities that make this place so different from anywhere else in the world. After enjoying a short week in rio...which we will post soon...we headed north to the small beach lined peninsula of buzios. this weekend and summer hot-spot for the brazilians and argentines has changed greatly since i (shane) was he [View Full Entry]
