Sean is the only person in Tiger Leaping Gorge to mention the protection of nature and campaign against the gorge dam.
Sean is a local man of Tibetan origin. He opened his home and his heart to the first rare Western travellers to venture this way in the 1983s. seanfrom 7 contributions Melbourne Jun 3, 2009 Quite simply, stay here. Don't stay anywhere else unless (like me) you can't hike TLG in a day (and in that case I recommend Half Way Guesthouse). Sean is the original pioneer of the gorge, the most famous man in the gorge, owner of tigerleapinggorge.com and a really nice guy! Rooms are great, good value - but this isn't about price and rooms when you're in the world's steepest gorge, it's about the entire experience and when you're sitting at Sean's staring at the cliffs watching the sun set you'll know exactly what I mean. Day 1, pick up from Lijiang, two and half hours drive by private car to Sean’s Guest-house, have food, check time then doing some short walk, over night in Sean’s Inn. Day 2, have breakfast, half hour car drive 10km way, then doing the 5hours Gorge high trail trekking backwards to Sean’s place. Strenuous but Stunning and Exciting. Go with Sean. My wife and I hiked the high trial along the Gorge in October with Sean, the best guide in the Gorge. Tiger Leaping Gorge is spectacular! It is best experienced from the high trial instead of by tour bus along the lower road by the river. This hundreds-of-years-old trial passes through beautiful remote villages and along steep scenery with stunning 5,000 meter peaks across the Gorge and the Yangtze River roiling 2,000 meters below. Beautiful and exhilirating. You must be pretty fit to take the whole trail to Walnut Garden in one 7 to 9 hour day, and must start before 10 AM.
