Very impressive sand. When you get to Britain and have lots of time on your hands, you must read the "Dune" sequence. Loved all your pics of Machu Picchu (and other places too). keep on writing.

Festival - From: Cusco
The festival was Inti Raymi, the big one in Cusco. I had a terrible time, was both suffering from pig flu & crushed by the swarming masses. If I tried to stand up, my "huge" figure would have been pelted with rocks and fruit, so I chose to suffer in silence and misery.

Timing - From: Road Blocks
You wouldnīt believe me if I said timing was impeccable... Turns out that at the time of writing the blog they had lifted the strikes for 3 days, so I could have actually gone east wiuthout a hitch(well slowly cos you gotta dodge the rocks on the road). I donīt have much of a choice with the fitness, Iīve got nothing to do all day, so a large amount of my time I spend wondering around trying to find a place to eat.... Iīd be walking a good 10km a day looking for food.

Rough - From: Road Blocks
About all the strikes. You're all about the timing mate. And seriously you're blog is starting to look like a food blog. Although now you've done the Inca trail you don't have to worry about your fitness any more. Is the civil unrest only in Peru?

great photos - From: Cusco
Which festival is it? If it is the one where they take the statute out of the church and around the market using that funny car it might be worth it. While we were walking the trail others in our group experienced a festival at Aqua Celentes and said it was great...lots of beer and lots of music!! When you go to Puna make sure to on the way visit the most decorated church in S. America. Its soo decorated that it is over the top.
