Which tour group?
Hello! Great blog! I'm wondering what company you booked this tour through, and if you booked it in advanced or when you arrived in Arequipa? I'm traveling to Peru by myself, and am thinking of spending Christmas in Arequipa and looking for a similar trek in Colca Canyon as well. Thanks so much!

Apologies!
Hi. really sorry, but just seen this today, and no doubt you have already been to the Canyon now? To be honest, I cant remember who we went with, however I think we booked it in one of the agents within the main square in Arequipa. In case you havent been yet, I would recommend you do the 3 days trek rather than the 2 as this way, you get more time to soak up the surroundings and its less of a stressful walk! Anyway, hope this helps if you havent been yet! Regards - Mike

hair
Hello Michael and Donna. I have a question for you Michael. I see you're losing your hair and have decided to grow it. I am also losing my hair but have it short. Does growing it longer keep your head warmer in the winter? Love the pictures by the way. Bay of Islands looks great.

Man I miss that banter........ For your information, I will only be happy when I am constantly mistaken for Terry Nutkins the popular Wildlife presenter.

Sweet as
Hi Mike and Donna, Great to see the weather played its part for you up north - lovely photos of the beaches. And you're even picking up some Kiwi slang ;-) Did you find the fudge shop in Paihia? :-P When you're in Kerikeri try some oranges from one of the roadside fruit stalls. They're really good too. Are you staying in Auckland for a while after the northern adventure?

Thanks!
Hey guys! I have been following your blog and loved it! I am heading to CA/SA next April with the bf and following your adventures has made me far less stressed and worried about danger etc. Plus I got so many ideas. So I just wanted to say thanks! I have been looking for another good blog to follow but they are hard to come by. Hope you enjoy the rest of your travels. Renee.

Thanks so much for your kind comments Renee and glad it will help you on your trip. CA/SA can be dangerous however you can certainly reduce the risk by using common sense and just not being stupid really (this is difficult for some people!) Let us know if there is anything we can help you with. Happy Travels! Regards M&D

How wonderful that you had great weather...
I imagine it changed by the time you got to the South Island. We plan to drive the same route as you north from Auckland. It looks so beautiful. Hope it is sunney for us. Having a camper must have saved you a lot of money on food. Are the prices at the grocery stores for basics such as bread, butter, cheese, sandwich meats and juices and other picnic fixings ok?

From Blog: Paihia and the Bay of Islands

Weather in Sth Island has actually been OK to be honest however it has been a few degrees colder for sure! The driving here really is beautiful and although everybody raves about the South, the North is also very impressive indeed. We have saved a lot by buying in the supermarkets. Pak n save is the cheapest followed by Coutdown and things are OK, but can be on the pricey side. Cheese for instance is really expensive here, however if you have one of the homebrands or 1kg blocks, you can keep the costs down. Dont know how it would compare to the states but its abnout the same as what we would pay back in England for this stuff.

We'll be in New Zealand the second half of October so your blogs will build up our anticipation.
We will be traveling with friends and sharing the cost of a rental car and gas, and staying at B&B's based upon recommendations by their tourist offices. Could you let us know what the current price of regular gas is in NZ$? Anyway, New Zealand must be like culture shock after so long in Central and South America. Ali is a good name especially since you are a Travelblogger and Ali Watters founded the website. Have a great vacation and don't freeze your butts off.

Hi Bob. Gas over here varies wildly depending on whether you are in a small town or city and sometimes even from gas station to gas station in the area. Regular is what we use and we have paid anywhere from NZD1.99 to NZD 2.36!! Average is around NZD2.06 at the moment I would say. Funny as it was a culture shock which we didnt expect considering England and NZ are so similar in many ways, but we just got used to the craziness of CA/SA! Take care - M&D
