After leaving lovely Laos we went to Chiang Mai and meet up some friends from Canada, we meet Cheryl and Jon in Turkey last year, and was wicked too see them again! We hung out with them for a week and it was a such a fun week! After sending them off (they went to Egypt) we went to the island of Ko Chang to get the last of Thailand beaches and sunshine which isnt far from Bangkok, what a wicked island, very laid back and not too touristy! We were there for 10days and hired a scooter for the most of that time and we just rode and swam and just chilled out! It was a really cool island! We left Vang Vieng and headed to Laung Prabang where we caught a long slow ferry up the Mekong River, for 2 days stopped halfway at a little town on the river and made it to Huay Xai, we had a day there before starting our Gibbon Experience so we went sapphire hunting. A tuk tuk driver took us out to some farmer and we panned for saphhires. Next day we had to drive 3 hours into the Bokeo Reserve and then we got told all bout the Gibbon Experience, pretty much its a village project that they are trying to conserve the forest from all the poachers and the Gibbon Experience money goes towards this project. What a col little city, lots of bakeries, pizza and baquettes, because of the French owned laos they made a great presence leaving with them these yummy things we crave. In Luang Prabang there are some amazing watefalls. Beautiful colured water, look fake they are so beautiful. We then headed to Vang Veing which is a crazy little place, the main river runs through it and a tuk tuk takes you 3klm out of town and gives you a tyre tube that u then float down the river and on the way there are bars that have these huge swings set up out the front and they pull you in with bamboo sticks and you have to buy a beer to swing and all day u just drink and swing! We crossed the Huay Xai border into Laos, we then had to do a 200klm bus trip to Luang Nam Tha to meet our friends Roe and Dean, who had travelled down from China. The bus trip took 8 hours it was the slowest, dustiest bus ride ever.... what a mission! Once we meet up it was cath up time, lots of drinks! Was good too see them again!!! We decided to do a 3day trek, from Muang Sing where we did a 60klm trek, spending the 2 nights in two different tribal villages. It was a great experience seeing how these people live and how happy and hard they work! In Thailand for the last month and half, just updating photos as so many of you dont get any. We have been to Koh Tao, Koh Phang-nan, Koh Samui, and still on Koh Phi Phi. Everyone knows what we did through group emails but this is a mnore so those u didnt get photos can see what we got up too, basically we went to Cusco, did a 5 day Salkantay Trek through mountians and jungle, went to Puno, stayed on an island there, Arequipa, Cola Canyon, Huchacina (sand dunes), Trujillo and Mancora pretty much. ... read more
