Good on you! You have a good sense of humor. So much of our happiness comes from an appreciation of the little things in daily living. Great sample! Here is something I'd like to call to your attention. www.pbase.com/peterericsson/bluewinged_pitta

Scary Israel
- From: Lamington National Park
I was pretty amazed myself at the ease I was finding the lyrebirds. One of them was right beside the Gardens by O'Reilly's! Apparently they are easier to find at this time of year (winter) but still! As for riflebirds, I saw several in the forest on the first day but found them to be rather shy. Once they realised I was around they would take off and disappear. But I saw one male on the morning to last right outside O'Reilly's in the tree by the Feeding Area, which was a bit of a surprise.

Lamington - From: Lamington National Park
I was there for one night. Worst night ever my wife said. Cold, turkeys stealing your food and not being left along by the Paddymelons. As for me, I loved it. Have to go back next year. Still need the Lyrebird. Can't believe how easy it was for you. I only did spend a couple of hours but still. Did you see your Riflebird? I saw one. But nothing like Regent Bowerbird. What an awesome creature that is!

mountain peaks - From: A River Runs Through It
I don't recall if you visited Doi Inthanon or not? It is simply like watching a theatric play to watch the local tourists come up to the Summit in their odd 'winter robes' ranging from the latest fashion wear, to rugs, towels, mittens and whatnot. Camera comes out, shouting and yelling, a cup of coffee and back down!

Park - From: Launceston: the town with a gorge
I stayed in the hotel overlooking this park, and thought it was beautiful, it smelled of pine trees, and had a little train running round it, also a cihildrens park, were familys had there teas there on the Barbacues, and it was also a place to sit till the sun set, it is such a change from the rest of Aus, as it actually has green grass and trees, instead of dry bark, it also has a pond with ducks in, I also watched a couple Salsa dancing on the band stand, they had a speaker with music on, Yoga lessons are tought in the park as well as Ti Chi, it was just like walking in to a post card, I loved it.

I don't have a hatred of sci-fi movies, just ones that should have never been made. Michael Bay is an insult to all that is good in Hollywood. Transformers is to sci-fi movies what elephant polo is to the Olympics.

prices - From: whales and kites
It is sad how everything always has to be so overpriced. Whenever we travel in the western world we find the same problem. Like visiting caves in Australia. Why pay hugs bucks to look inside a dark hole? Same thing in Thailand for nothing. Anyhow, money is a great motivator and without it lots of these places would have gone down.

swallows - From: Off to Fiji...
re welcome and Pacific swallows it depends on how you deal with splitting and lumping. I treat the NZ/Aus bird as Hirundo tahitica neoxena, some people treat it as a seperate species (H. neoxena).

Great to see this trip coming about. I look forward to your updates. That Fiji Parrotfich is excellent! Is the Welcome Swallow really the same as Pacific Swallow? I thought Welcome was endemic to Australasia region. I better check. Glad you are having company on this journey..... Peter

Fantastic sighting! So happy for you. The bird looks a bit like our Tesias in shape. I didn't try for it but sure will if I ever come back. I didn't know the south Island Robin was at Arthur's Pass. Great find! Yours Peter www.thaibirder.blogspot.com

You have been very persistent in your birding adventures. Thus you have been rewarded with plenty of memories. It surprises me you didn't connect with Striped Tit-Babbler in Thailand. It is everywhere if even a bit hard to see. It took me years to see the Rufous-backed Kingfisher. Well done!

warning - From: Krabi and Khao Nor Chuchi: good and bad birding
Ha! I believe I warned you about KNCC didn't I? Still, every time I go there I want to go right back in. You have to get the birds by call and then pursue. Once you start using a scope and seriously look at waders you will get the 'itch'. They are my favorite group of birds. Yours Peter

your story - From: Taman Negara
Hi Israel, I like your style of writing. Honest with a fair bit of humour. The tropical rain forest is almost overwhelming at times. But as you say: I could stay here forever! As for Khao Yai, you simply hit it during a low period. At other times it is as rewarding as can be. Even in the tropics there are seasons even though they are not as distinct. Yours Peter

Hi Israel, hope you'll have fun in KL. You will see a lot more of Malaysian flags because August is our independent month. We will celebrate our Independent Day on 31st August. You seem to know fishes, why not going to the islands for diving or snorkelling to experience swiming with the fishes.

Are you going to Singapore Zoo? You can feed fruit to the manatees there! Cute! I learnt that from some random persons blog. p.s. In ecology today, the lecturer was talking about your brother & his research!!!!! I felt embiggened through the vague association.
