If i wanted to paint a picture of Colombia the literal result would be a lot of green....But add the life of the people it would be this mural rich with warm and vibrant colours!! With all the news of Colombia of being 'muy peligroso' in the past (wat the farc??), i remember Simon saying it would be a pity if we skipped it and he would be right. Warm weather, amazing landscapes, really friendly people, giant fruits and veges, cold beers and shots of rum with water chasers in all night rumbas with friendly atmosphere. Im not surprised there are [View Full Entry]

Now this is what i thought Cuba would be like!! Before we went on our amazing sailing adventure we had to get to Panama city in a hurry. Shall i digress? In order to beat the hurricane season and catch the last boat we had to rapido through 4 countries in 3 days. I was sad to have to cut these places out of our trip but i didnt want to rush it either. El Salvador ,Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa rica will have to be revisited another time. Panama is what we thought Cuba would be like. We bunked down in [View Full Entry]

" Caribbean queen... now we sharing the same thing...and our hearts will beat as one...ooh ooh oohh" Well you know how the rest goes and i know you do but anything to do with the caribbean i was singing it ..to myself but nonetheless it was in my heart as im rocking backward and forward and sidewards on our 50ft sailing boat ' Seaddler' The sea eagle. Im sitting on the bow( i hope thats the front )writing awkwardly hoping the seasickness doesnt rear its ugly head again and im just watching my little hairs poke through my newly tanned legs [View Full Entry]

Whoever said the mountains were quiet was mistaken but tranquill and peaceful definately!! Other than being woken by a loco 3am rooster and the occasional hocking guatemateca clearing thier throat its birdsong , the twitching of bugs and insects and the putt putt of the little fishing boat that fill my ears as i lay swinging in a hammock transposed to the pine studded volcanic mountain with an outstanding gorgeous view of Lago de Atitlan. Two days remaining(when writing in my diary) and a bit over 3 weeks thus far in Guatemala seems like a good time as any for a [View Full Entry]

on the road
The more we travel onwards the smaller the provinces get, the land more vast , the grass more green, the trees taller and the mountains grew. The land is so beautiful i could hear myself saying it out loud. We crossed a bridge of water and my excitement rose. This heat can only be tamed with a long swim in the ocean. We pulled in at the station in the hottest part of the day and thawed our frozen popsicle air conditioned bodies immediately. Lots of cubans waiting , holding casa particular placards and screaming low prices. I hadnt seen this [View Full Entry]

Santa clara was a breath of fresh(hot) air. The roads are far from crowded the big palm trees the sugar cane and the land so lush and green. Santa Clara is commonly known as ´Che town´! It is where the Che Guvara museum and memorial is and is where the locals say to go visit the ´Big Che´, his statue! So we went! We were to see later a photo of one of our casa particular hosts carry the casket of Che! He was very proud..... In cuba though you overdose a little on che. The best way to get around [View Full Entry]

It is very true that this is the land of the very, very good looking...especially the men. We stopped in a cheap hotel on the Malecon , south end, for the first night to get aquainted with the city. The view from the balcony was amazing , i couldnt believe what i was seeing. There is an unusual beauty in a city in a constant state of repair. It was mesmirising as was the ocean. Our surly reception and tacky hotel and budget sent us to the streets to grab a bite for dinner. This is when our culture shock really hit [View Full Entry]

I tried to concentrate and look out the windows of the bus as not to technicolour yawn all over Orianne, it wasn't easy where has my cast iron stomach gone??? It was so beautiful looking over the cliffs into the jungle and driving through the clouds. It seemed like someone had played with the contrast buttonon the tele as everything was looking this bright , brilliant green colour. The feeling was even more relaxing, say it isnt so. Wet, wet , wet!!! No not a band of a bygone era singing love is all around but of course the weather. When it [View Full Entry]

our lil getaway
We grabbed the night bus and it was all about holding on! Round and round the mountain we went ,Orianne holding on as she slept as not to keep bashing her head against the window and me, not so lucky, for the first half of the journey holding my tummy as for nothing to come up and when that settled holding for the bottom half! San Cristobel is as beautiful as i remembered. The lovely spanish colonial buildings and cobbled streets. Famous for the Zapatistas and the indigeoneous Maya villages. The town has expanded a lot, the before dirt roads now [View Full Entry]

Our trip to Oaxaca was better than the bus ride we even arrived an hour early. So instead of staring blankly at at arrivals at 6am under flourescent light we decided to hoof it to our unbooked hostel. My first thought was i packed to much and my second thought was exactly the same. The fresh air was welcome and the views of the mountain beautiful as the sun broke over the top. In Australia they say we have a pub an every corner here it is catherdrals. Asking directions we encouted a lot of muy lejos, very far, hmmm oh [View Full Entry]
