There were two options to get from Monte Verde to Arenal. The first is on a 100% dirt road on winding roads for 3 plus hours.. no thank you.. and the second option was Jeep-Boat-Jeep. Which is the option that we took. We took about a 1.5 – 2 hour bus (jeep) ride to Lake Arenal, where we took about a 30-45 minute boat ride to the other side of the lake and then a 30-minute taxi (jeep) ride up to the Arenal Observatory Lodge. We are completely secluded and about a 30-minute drive from the town of La Fortuna. We were 10+ KM away from the main highway. It was a little further out and harder to get to, but once we were there, we didn’t have to do much traveling to enjoy the wildlife. ... read more

After 20 km of steep dirt roads, we arrived right around sunset, checked in, freshened up, and sat down with Andres the owner where he helped us book the rest of our trip. We booked tours for the next day, transportation to Arenal (final stop) and taxi to San Jose. It was a relief off our shoulders—nothing left to “worry” about. Once that was all done, we set out to explore this cute mountain top town. We walked through the town in about 20 minutes. Monte Verde is a very quaint little town with a few souvenir stores, a couple other stores and lots of places to eat. We decided to eat at this little house looking spot right next to our B&B. One thing that we realized about Costa Rica, was that everywhere we went ... read more

After leaving Paradise, we quickly realized that the rest of our vacation would be entirely different -- not worse or better, just different. We were dropped off by boat in the AM in Golfito and spent about 3 hours on the rocky beach waiting for our 2PM bus to Quepos. We read, chilled and played games-- followed by a fresh ceviche lunch. Delicious :) We got on the bus around 2:30 PM and arrived in Quepos right at dusk about 6-6:30PM. We met a very nice woman who helped us call a cab, and were dropped off at Casa Buena Vista. Casa Buena Vista was another gem that I found on airbnb -- Anita, has lived in her home or 38 years, she has 8 rooms (If I remember correctly) and loves having visitors with her ... read more

Dearest Friends and Family, It has been almost two years since my last post -- that is pretty damn crazy! I have absolutely had some noteworthy adventures but until now, didn't "feel" like writing them down. This blogging, if you can even call it that, is so that I don't forget the amazing sights, adventures, and fun/interesting facts of our trip. I hope that you enjoy the blog and will go and visit Costa Rica. Background of the trip: Almost three years ago, I was exhibiting at the LOHAS conference in Boulder, where we were showing off our fine glassware in an expo sort of setting. Something different about this conference was, one their was an expo to show off products and two raffle prizes for those who actually attended the expo portion. (ie. people from ... read more

PART 2: EGYPT There is soo much to talk about when it comes to Egypt. But here is the bottom line.. if we didn't do the top of the line tour that my mother setup, I would have NEVER wanted to go. We were truly taken care of, picked up from the airport, checked into our hotel, picked up for every flight, tour, ...etc. honestly babied thru Egypt but it was GREAT. We got picked up in Cairo in the evening, taken to a fancy hotel and got picked up super early the next morning for Luxor. Day 1: Karnak & Luxor Temple (Cruise) Day 2: Valley of The Queens, Temple of Ha-Gyp-suit, Valley of the Kings (Cruise) Day 3: Edfu Temple & Kom Ombo Temple (Cruise) Day 4: Aswan - Philae Temple, High Dam, Unfinished ... read more

After doing that last blog entry, I am feeling kinda guilty about not putting up another amazing trip with the family. Our Israel & Egypt Trip. Of course I forgot my journal at my parents house with all the gooey details, names & stories of all the places we went, but I am going to wing it and at least you will get to see the amazing photographs. Or, maybe not amazing pictures per-say (Evan didn't get to go on this trip) but you will get to see the experience that we had via my ok pictures haha. I cannot remember the exact order of events even though I have been trying for a few days now.. but whatever So Part 1 is ISRAEL. The Cohen Family, including Smadar (my dad's sister) embarked on a two ... read more

Hello Everyone!! Evan and I just got back from San Francisco where we spent four glorious days enjoying the 1/2 sunshine 1/2 rain & torrential down pour. We arrived late Wednesday night, and took a cab over to our friend Henrys house, he lives in the Marina district and a really nice neighborhood, which we walked through bags in tow because we had the wrong address..woops. Took a tour of his apt (very nice) and his roof deck before hitting the hay. Thursday was supposed to be the only sunny 'nice' day in San Fran so we hit the ground running. We woke up, ate breakfast at The Grove (yummy!) and then took a nice long walk to Fisherman's Wharf where we rented a tandem bicycle. If you know anything about me, its that my bicycling ... read more

After enjoying the Quarter Finals in Port Elizabeth, I had to go to the Semi Finals in Cape Town. Just had to do it. We began our ticket adventure at the Fan Fest with what felt like a million people dressed in orange. It was more packed there than any other game except for the 1st one with Bafana Bafana. After Uruguay's sour win over Ghana, they had very little support that we saw outside of the stadium. Not too many proud Uruguay fans. We did the entire fan walk from the fan fest to the stadium about 3 km FULL, packed FULL of Dutch supporters - blowing their vuvuzelas and chanting their songs. SO FUN. We walked to our normal meeting place, Giovanni's a fantastic little Italian deli, with coffee, sandwiches and all kinds of ... read more

The Wild Coast & The Garden Route Road Trip I returned just 2 days ago from a very different kind of road trip. Jesse and Elyse (my cousin and his girlfriend) arrived over 2 weeks ago, after climbing table mountain and two nights in Cape Town, the four of us were off on a road trip none of us will ever forget. We flew from Cape Town to Durban where we rented a car. I had order a mid-size four person, four large suitcase car, where in the pictures was something like a Jetta but when we got there we were greeted with something much smaller, a little 4 door, hatchback polo. Haha I absolutely thought it was funny, others werent as amused - the large ‘luxury’ car was out, instead we spent our time Eurotrip ... read more
