After boring people for the last couple of years with plans of my trip, the time has nearly come for me to put my money where my mouth is and actually get on the plane!

18 months of travelling around East Asia and South America with a little trip home in the middle. Not sure whether I'm excited or terrified but either way, here goes...!

Hello! I hope everyone is well, not too sick of winter, only one month to go! I haven’t written a blog for ages so I’ll try and keep this one short but I can’t guarantee it! Last time I wrote I had just left Uruguay and was heading for Argentina..... After a short stop in the Buenos Aires bus station we decided to head straight up north to visit Iguaçu falls, it seemed like a good idea at the time but after a painful 8 hour wait in the bus station and then a 20 hour journey on the coldest bus in the world, sitting next to the resident load snorer, we weren’t so sure!! Our first task when we arrived was to find Emma some shoes (exciting stuff I know!) as she only had a ... read more

Hello! Well, I’m off exploring again after my quick jaunt home. I really enjoyed being back home and strangely enough didn’t want to leave again, but now I’m here, I’m definitely getting back in the swing of things! Typically I found myself starting this new leg of the trip sitting behind the devil child from hell, who insisted on throwing her chair back at every opportunity, then climbing on to the back of it to shout at her friend who was behind me - she was so close that I couldn’t look forwards otherwise I would have head butted her - god I love children!! We started our journey in Rio, arriving early in the morning with warnings of ´bag slashers´ringing in our ears, it was not without trepidation that we left the airport and hopped ... read more

Namaste! Well, Nepal has certainly been an incredible experience so far with Tigers, elephants and rather scary sinking mud, combine that with the preposterous idea I had that I enjoyed walking enough to take on a three week trek carrying my own 20kg bag and it is fast becoming place I will never forget!! So where to begin?!... We first flew to Katmandu from Beijing via a very uncomfortable Bangkok transfer, involving a 12 hour overnight wait on freezing metal chairs with men hocking everywhere, only to find a transfer lounge a couple of hours before our next flight! Typical, especially as I had asked the nice lady at the Thai airways check-in desk if they had a lounge. "only for our gold card customers" she informed me and helpfully suggested the airport hotel instead, to ... read more

Well, as it turns out, China isn't half as scary as we had been led to believe. Despite the language barrier - and it is a BIG one (have only met a handful of people who speak English) people have been incredibly helpful, and armed with our phrase book and a handy finger for pointing, we seem to have managed to get pretty much everywhere we intended to, without too many problems!! Having said that, I nearly didn't even make it into the country. On leaving Vietnam, the immigration officials decided it was time to take a good look at my passport (why they cared when I was leaving, I don’t know!) unfortunately, due to a lot of bashing around, getting wet at songkran, and just generally being poorly looked after by me, the back page ... read more

Hello! Well after recovering from my childcare experiences in Cambodia which confirmed to me that I should never be aloud to have children I headed excitedly (partly due to the fact that I could leave Phnom Penh and NEVER go back!) for Vietnam. We arrived first in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City, take your pick), I must admit after the previous big Asian cities I wasn't holding out much hope for this one, but as it turned out, I absolutely loved it!! It was noisy, dirty and busy but there was something about it that made me want to walk around and explore! However, we decided that the most important thing was getting our Chinese Visa, after finding out that the only way to get a multiple entry one was to get a business visa, we ... read more

So I left Cambodia about a month ago, so i thought it was about time to write a blog about it! I really didn't know what to expect with Cambodia (or Cambodge as the French call it, i just thought it was a term of endearment for a while! I quite like it!) I had heard mixed reports of people who either loved or hated it. I was prepared for heartbreaking images of children begging on the street and a country not emotionally recovered from Pol Pots regime, I expected the Temples to be amazing but not to enjoy spending too much time seeing them ( any one who's gone to a museum with me knows that i cant help it, i start yawning as soon as i get there!) and I thought the persistent hawkers ... read more

After a long slow boat trip down the Mekong (2 days!) we arrived in Luang Prabang, a lovely little town, very French, very relaxed, and a lovely place to spend a few days. Not much to do there but wander around, go and see a few temples, wander around the market, but it had a great feel to it. We climbed up to the highest temple to watch the sunset, where loads of women were selling birds in tiny cages "free for good luck" not that they were free, obviously, they cost a couple of dollars, but if you freed them you'd get good luck - we declined the offer, and when we reached the top we could see hundreds of the little things flying around, just waiting to be caught again my the women and ... read more

Hello!! How are you all? Well I hope? I hear you had lovely bank holiday weather, so I hope you all took full advantage of it and now have tans to make me jealous (it's rainy season here again so wouldn't be hard!!) What have I been up to since I last wrote I hear you ask, well here goes....! I have spent the last month traveling through the beautiful country of Laos where the guest houses are run by crazy "mama's" who bustle into your room telling you EXACTLY where you should have put your backpack (and I always move it!) and prod you around to see how fat/thin tall/short you are - I felt a little like an auditionee for Hansel and Gretel!! Unlike Thailand, it really is the land of smiles - ... read more

So after the last blog I have been a very busy girlie, lots of action and adventure to keep me occupied! After a lovely trip Kayaking in Krabi we decided we needed some more adventure sports and headed to Railey Beach for a climbing course. After being picked up in the back of a truck full of very muscly guys, all wearing head bands ( really are they necessary?!) we were a little concerned about how we would fare on the course and whether we ( by we I mean me!) may have been a little over optimistic in our ability when deciding to book for a entire day! Luckily, when we got there as we had booked seperately me and Emma were put into our own group with our own instructor/guide. After insisting that ... read more

Hiya guys, I know, another blog already but somehow we've managed to fit in another country in the last few weeks so thought you'd just love to be updated, trust me the more frequently I do it the shorter they are and unltimately the better it is for you!! Anyways..... Last time I ws sitting waiting for a bus to the Taman Negara rainforest after spending a couple of days in Kuala Lumpur. KL was good, though didn't really do much apart from the obligatory trip to the Petronas Towers, which they seem to love over there, you have to watch a whole video explaining how wonderful they are, and there's a whole load of stuff going on, even a worship room which we think they use to force their employees to worship the towers! After ... read more
