This last weekend was my first trip outside of Spain! I went with Natalie (who is studying abroad in England), Lauren, Hannah and Emily to Dublin. We flew out around 10:30 from BCN, and tried to sleep the entire way since we were up very late at night packing. Saturday was our first daytrip! I went to Tarragona, Spain, which is in Northern Spain, but about an hour and a half south of Barcelona. It is also right on the Mediterranean. In 218 BC the Romans strategically settled this town and made it the capital of that province of the Roman Empire. Tarragona even replaced Rome for 3 years when Emperor Augustus lived there. So this city is steeped in history, and actually has the most Roman ruins outside of Rome. Wow its already been a week since I last wrote a blog! Its been so busy here that I find that the only time I have to write is in the morning before my classes on Mondays and Wednesdays since I start school at 3:30 on these days. On Saturday, the whole GSE group took our first modernism tour. We met outside of the Hospital de Sant Pau metro exit. Beforehand, us Nacion girls went to our café to have some café con leche before the tour. Because this always takes longer than expected, we were about 15 minutes late to our tour. First week of school! So Monday was my first day of school, and all I had was Spanish nivel d (which is equivalent to advanced Spanish 4). Upon entering the class, I realized that everybody in the class was basically bilingual, and most spoke Spanish at home. So I have finally got through the first week here in Barcelona! I feel like ive been here for ages. And even though I just got here, I fear that it is going to be very hard to leave this place.
