This last weekend was my first trip outside of Spain! I went with Natalie (who is studying abroad in England), Lauren, Hannah and Emily to Dublin. We flew out around 10:30 from BCN, and tried to sleep the entire way since we were up very late at night packing. We got there are 12:15, and once we stepped out of the airplane, realized how cold this weekend was going to be. It was freezing! And there was a lot of wind. Us Barcelona people went through customs, and then waited near the exit for about 30 minutes for Natalie to meet [View Full Entry]

Saturday was our first daytrip! I went to Tarragona, Spain, which is in Northern Spain, but about an hour and a half south of Barcelona. It is also right on the Mediterranean. In 218 BC the Romans strategically settled this town and made it the capital of that province of the Roman Empire. Tarragona even replaced Rome for 3 years when Emperor Augustus lived there. So this city is steeped in history, and actually has the most Roman ruins outside of Rome. The bus to Tarragona was scheduled to leave at 9:30, so we got up around 8, got dressed, and [View Full Entry]

Wow its already been a week since I last wrote a blog! Its been so busy here that I find that the only time I have to write is in the morning before my classes on Mondays and Wednesdays since I start school at 3:30 on these days. Anyways, so much has happened since last week! The school week was probably the beginning of me feeling like Barcelona is home. We all seem to have a routine down, coming home at lunch, making food, etc. On Monday, Lauren and I went to a cute little café halfway between our apartment and [View Full Entry]

On Saturday, the whole GSE group took our first modernism tour. We met outside of the Hospital de Sant Pau metro exit. Beforehand, us Nacion girls went to our café to have some café con leche before the tour. Because this always takes longer than expected, we were about 15 minutes late to our tour. We were worried that we were going to be left behind, but once we got there we saw that we were one of the only ones there! Apparently everybody else also had trouble getting there on time. Our first stop on our modernism tour was the [View Full Entry]

First week of school! So Monday was my first day of school, and all I had was Spanish nivel d (which is equivalent to advanced Spanish 4). Upon entering the class, I realized that everybody in the class was basically bilingual, and most spoke Spanish at home. I was like the lone white girl with an American accent while the rest could speak really well. I was worried in class, but I talked to my teacher after class and she thought that I should stay in the class. I was worried for the next two days about that class, but I [View Full Entry]

So I have finally got through the first week here in Barcelona! I feel like ive been here for ages. And even though I just got here, I fear that it is going to be very hard to leave this place. I am absolutely in love with this city. The flight over here was pretty uneventful, minus some turbulence over the Atlantic. I had a stopover in London, and then in London I met another girl named Eliza, who was also studying abroad in my program, GSE. Once in Barcelona, we took a cab together to the hotel. It was really [View Full Entry]
