SarahB325 - Sarah B

Sarah B This blog is primarily for those that know me best, but in case there are any stragglers out there, here's a little bit of information. My name is Sarah and I'm a political science/philosophy student from St. Louis, MO, USA. I'll be studying abroad during the Spring semester of 2008 in Galway, Ireland. I'm so ridiculously excited (and scared to death!). Hopefully I'll keep this up at least weekly, although I really make no promises. Expect pictures, complaints, observations, and adventures!

Oh, Italy. What can I say about Italy. Katie and I took an overnight train to Rome from Munich on March 26th and we arrived on the 27th. It's hard to believe that was just over a month ago, but it was. As always, we encountered slight difficulty on the train. Sleeper cabins are generally arranged for 4 or 6 people. Word of advice: splurge for the 4 person cabin. It's MUCH more comfortable. We didn't know better so we booked for a 6 person sleeper. The cabin is arranged with 3 bunks on each side of a tiny tiny room. [View Full Entry]

Munich... what can I say about Munich? I loved it, that's for sure. I only spent one day in the city itself and two days seeing sights near the city. Munich itself is the type of city I could definitely see myself living in someday. It's metropolitan while being historic. It's town square, for instance, had beautiful architecture and was definitely indicative that it is the capital of Bavaria, which is a region of Germany. Apparently Bavaria is different from other German regions in that it is like a country in and of itself. Bavaria has it's own food, beer, and [View Full Entry]

Ok, people. As much as I would like to write about all of my spring break adventures, I don't have the time or energy. Finals are upon me and essays abound. Instead, I will just post pictures periodically and highlight my favorite experiences. Prague was amazing. I could just feel that we were beginning to get into Eastern Europe. The language was really really different and I didn't understand a word, though my Russian acutally came in handy a time or two. The visit to Kutna Hora was amazing... it was about an hour outside Prague and apparently was a huge [View Full Entry]

I'm finally back in Galway. We (Simona, her cousin Daniele and I) got back late on Wednesday night. I have spent the last three days reviewing and editing over 600 pictures. In case anyone forgot, I spent the 15 days previous to Wednesday in Germany, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Italy, in that order. I had an amazing time. Thank you to everyone to who sent me birthday greetings and cards. I had four birthday cards waiting for me when I got home, which was a nice surprise. Anyway, I've decided to do separate blog entries for each location. I didn't [View Full Entry]

Dearest friends, family, and stalkers; Greetings again from the Emerald Isle. I know it’s been far too long since I have last updated, but things are busy here, as always. It seems as though the last month has flown by. I blinked at February was gone. I am now though the first quarter of March and it makes me terribly sad that this adventure is nearly through. The last half of March will be spent away from Ireland, and then I have April and May, and then what? What will the summer bring? While I abhor the idea of spending another [View Full Entry]

Ciao! This entry will most likely be long, tedious, and possibly boring. You always have the option to skip right to the pictures. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. This past weekend I went to London with my friends Katie and Caitlin. We left extremely, ridiculously early in the morning on Thursday. Our bus to the airport left at 3:30am, to be exact. We arrived before 5am so we sat around eating pistachios, because clearly the logical thing to do was consume mass amounts of protein before going through “security”. I quote security because it was the shortest securi [View Full Entry]

Best girls ever!
This entry is going to be relatively short, because I don't have too terribly much to say right now. I just want to let everyone know that I'm still alive. Happy Birthday to Amanda and Carol, I hope you guys had great ones. Something I've learned: the idea of personal space means nothing to a European. It is both good and bad, I think. For instance, in the Arts Concourse, which is this big long elevated building with lots of lecture theatres, there's a cafe and an area of lots of chairs and coffee tables. Each coffee table is surrounded by [View Full Entry]

I’m doing quite well on updating frequently. I have a personal journal, but it’s fun to write publicly, catering specifically to my adoring public. Ha, ha. The first day of class was today. First of all, I would like to point out that the highlight of my day was that a black Labrador puppy was running about in the Arts Concourse. He looked like he was about 9 months old, so he was taller but very gangly and awkward, with big paws and a flopping tail. So cute! I had seen him running around my apartment complex, and he looked like [View Full Entry]

Hello again! Paige, Megan, and Mother: Thank you for the comments! I loved them, and it’s exciting to sign back in and see love. I miss all of you guys very much. There is one particular thing I would like to address in this post: Grocery shopping. I always kind of thought I knew how to shop. Go in, get your stuff, leave? I focused primarily in the frozen food aisle, and perhaps the occasional box of cereal and a gallon of milk. Now, not only do I have to shop for myself, I have to shop for myself in Europe! Hello, All; I just saw an add for Subway on BBC. Isn't that funny? There's also an Aldi's in the shopping center, and American brands like Neutrogena and Dove in the drugstore. I went grocery shopping yesterday for the first time, and that was sure an adventure. It's not like I've never gone grocery shopping at home, but it's definitely an adventure here. I thanked god I chose an English-speaking country when trying to figure out what to buy. The shopping center is about a mile away from where we are staying. We have to walk along a very busy highway [View Full Entry]
