Hi everyone! Since we last wrote the blog we've spent 2 lovely (well mostly) weeks in Sri Lanka - very different from India (friendly people, very green countryside and nice beaches). We arrived into Colombo Airport at dead of night and managed to grab a taxi to Negombo, our first beach place of the travels! Negombo felt like Paradise after India, but was actually not that nice compared with the other beaches we visited. We spent the entire first day on the beach, reading and generally being lazy! Phil ventured into the sea, only to lose her sunglasses due to the [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone! Well what do we have to tell you? Quite a lot really. India has been an experience to say the least! We began our long journey from Pokhara on the morning of the 27th, getting the early bus at 6.30am. The mountains came out one last time so we could get a last look - lovely! The bus journey was eventful! We got about 2 hours down the road and broke down - still not really sure why but it was something to do with the tyres. We stopped for around 45 mins before they fixed it, only to [View Full Entry]

The Trek!!!

 Asia » Nepal » Pokhara
Hello everyone! As you may have gathered, we made it round the Annapurna Circuit! (Although at times it seemed we wouldn't!!) Day 1 began with us getting up at 5.15am (a sign of things to come!) to get to the bus park for our bus to Besisahar. From there we took another bus (a bone-rattler!) to Bhulbhule, where we started walking. Ironically, the day we left Pokhara was the only day it was clear enough for us to see the Himalayas, the view for which Pokhara is famous! We hired a guide, called Tulsi, and a porter, Samir, to carry our [View Full Entry]

Hi everyone! Well, we've done so much since the last entry that we've almost forgotten what we've been doing! We made it to Butwal okay (this time!!) as the strike luckily wasn't affecting the road from Pokhara. We went to Butwal to visit Phil's aunt and uncle who work at the Butwal Technical Institute (BTI), but unfortunately when we got off the bus we were surrounded by rickshaw drivers who apparently had never heard of BTI!!!! (Even though it was about 2 minutes away from where we were standing and Sa had noticed us passing it from the bus!!) They also [View Full Entry]

Well, where to start really, we have had quite an eventful week! We left for Chitwan National Park on Thursday morning (6.30am start!). The 5 hour bus ride was not the best thing to experience that early in the morning, for Sarah at least! Thats where the sickness started. We did travel on a Tourist Bus, which made the journey slightly better, there were no locals crammed inside the bus or on the roof at least! The main highway of Nepal is probably the equivalent of a small pot-holed country road, full of twists and turns! and the bus feels like [View Full Entry]

Kathmandu

 Asia » Nepal » Kathmandu » Thamel
Hi everyone! Well, we've been a week and a half here now and there's plenty to tell you about. To begin with, we've moved hotels to the Kathmandu Guest House, which is so much nicer than the other hotel - beautiful gardens, shops, money changing, restaurant, electricity almost all of the time, and 24 hour hot water!!! So obviously Phil is loving that! And it's cheaper too. We've been out and about around the KTM Valley over the last week, beginning with the Monkey Temple (Swayambunath), where as some of you will already have heard, Phil was attacked by a monkey [View Full Entry]

Greetings from Nepal!

Hey guys! We've made it to Nepal- finally! Delhi airport was a bit of a nightmare, we were stuck there for 10hrs and our flight didn't appear to be on the screens! but then we found out a few hours before takeoff it actually was there, we weren't in the right place/ looking at the right screens! we did eventually arrive in Kathmandu (only 39hrs after we left Derby!). Kathmandu is a bit of a culture shock! but its brilliant and everyone is really friendly. The hotel is in a great place and the room's nice but we only get electricity [View Full Entry]
