Hola Well, I only have a few days left here in Mexico, as I head home on Friday. The time has gone by oh so quickly... The last couple weeks, I've just been relaxing and enjoying my time here, and spending lots of time with the family. Two weeks ago we had a Thanksgiving dinner for the ISA students and their families. The food was great but it just wasn't the same. But it was nice to at least celebrate the holiday. That weekend I had to say goodbye to a lot of my friends, who were leaving to travel before heading home. It was really hard to say goodbye to these people that I have spent the whole semester with, realizing that I probably won't see most of them ever again. That weekend Jesús and ... read more

Hola! Well, I am just about officially done with classes! I had my last presentation today and turned in my final essays and all I have to do is listen to an hour of presentations tomorrow and that is the end of my semester! I am so excited about that but at the same time it is a very bittersweet feeling. Even though I'm happy to be done with classes, it means I will be going home soon...and I'm not sure I'm ready to do that. Two weekends ago my parents and sister Jenna came to visit me. It was SO great to see them. I think that was the longest I had ever gone without seeing my family, and I definitely missed them. I was also so happy that they had the chance to see ... read more

Hola everyone, I am extremely busy here with the end of the semester just around the corner. I had a final exam today in my Literature class, so am now finished with that. I just have the rest of this week and next week of my other classes and then I am finished. However, it's been very busy which means the time just keeps flying by even faster. I want to write about my experiences, but because I don't have a lot of time, this entry is probably going to be shorter and more condensed than I'd like...but here goes. Two weekends ago I went to Mexico City and Teotihuacan with my ISA group. I had been to both before when I went in high school, but was really excited to go back and see everything ... read more

Well, another week has quickly passed by. This past weekend was the celebration of Day of the Dead, which is a Mexican holiday that honors and remembers those who have passed on. I was really excited to experience it, since I had learned about it so many times in Spanish classes. But at the end of the weekend, I have to say I was a little disappointed. I actually felt like I celebrated Halloween more than I did Day of the Dead. Halloween has obviously become more popular here in Mexico, which actually made me quite sad, as it doesn't mean anything, while Day of the Dead actually has a purpose. Anyways, Friday night I went to a Halloween party with my family. My host sister and her family are part of the Lions Club, and ... read more

Hola everyone, I don't know about all of you - but October seems like a blur to me - I honestly don't know where the time went. I now only have less than 2 months here - which is unbelievable. I was talking to a friend for a while today, and we both have very mixed emotions about leaving, but in general don't really want to think about that. It's just scary because I know that the second half will probably go by even faster. I know that part of me will be ready to go home, but it will be extremely difficult to say goodbye to my life here. Anyways...the festival here in Guanajuato ended on Sunday. I guess I didn't really notice that it was even here too many times - just because I ... read more

Hola everyone! Well another week has gone by and it has definitely had it's ups and downs. Last week's classes went by really fast - and I didn't really do anything out of the ordinary. I had a lot of homework, mostly because my Literature professor told us 2 weeks ago that we had 2 weeks to finish our novels - when we all thought we had the entire semester. Thankfully I had read about half of it - but that meant I still had about 125 pages left. I read "Como Agua Para Chocolate" - or "Like Water for Chocolate" - and it was a great book! I felt really proud of myself for reading an entire 250 page novel all in Spanish. I really didn't struggle too much and I learned a lot of ... read more

Hola! Time is still flying by - I can't believe it's been almost 2 weeks since my last entry - and I have done a lot since then! Two weekends ago was my long weekend, as I had Monday and Tuesday off from school for Independence Day. That Saturday I went to a nearby city called San Miguel de Allende. It's smaller than Guanajuato so there wasn't a whole lot to do. We walked around, ate some amazing Mexican food called gorditas - which are really thick tortillas stuffed with meat of some sort. (Most of the time I'm not quite sure exactly what I'm eating...) We also ate some amazing ice cream. Here in Mexico I have eaten some of the best ice cream I have ever had in my entire life. And that was ... read more

Hola! Sorry it's been a while since I last wrote. Things have been pretty busy here for me, but I've also been having a lot of fun. The weekend before last I went to a chef expo with Jesús, as he had to go for his school. I got to sample lots of delicious food and also watch him and his classmates help out a somewhat famous Mexican chef do a demonstration. She made this amazing looking cake (see picture) but it of course was way above my level of baking skills, so I won't be making this cake anytime soon. On Sunday our group went to a fútbol (soccer) game in Leon. You probably know that soccer is the popular sport here, and everyone is pretty crazy about it, so it was great to experience ... read more

August 25th 2008

Hola amigos! Well another week has gone by which means I have now been in Guanajuato for a month. This is just crazy to me. I'm sure for all of you back home who miss me dearly think time is just crawling by... :)....but for me it is just flying! And even though I miss all of you, I absolutely love it here. People keep saying I will go through a phase where I just want to come home, but right now I couldn't be enjoying myself any more. I also can't believe how much I've learned in a month. Hopefully my Spanish has improved somewhat, but it's difficult to tell. There are days when I honestly feel like I know nothing. I have to have people repeat everything, or ask them to slow down multiple ... read more
