| 7th July 2009 Patfar | Meat club? - From: The Foz and Londrina Deixa eu traduzir. Clube da Costela: Rib Club. I had some kind of Australian pale ale with my kangaroo steak yesterday. It wasn't very good. It wasn't even close to Bohemia. And it was like stupidly warm, which Bohemia would never be allowed to be. |
| 7th July 2009 Pal | Home again, home again! - From: The Foz and Londrina Sandra: Please give your Grandma a hug from me - she looks very well and it was good to see you all. Your cousin Nicole looks like you at that age! Continue to have a great time! Love, the other Grams. |

| 29th June 2009 Erin | meat on top meat on top of meat - From: Asuncion- A little bit of Culture and a whole lotta Meat The meat buffet sounds exactly like this resturant in SF that Jed and I want to try, it's called Espetus but I'm sure it's much more expensive. So get your meat fill on while youre there. Too cool on the soccer field! Love E |

| 22nd June 2009 Sandra and Stephen | Hey MonCon - From: Dust Bus to Filadelfia, Concepcion Ha ha, I had the pleasure of setting up the camera and dashing into the pool... Looks pretty convincing though, right! (Miss you too!) |
| 22nd June 2009 Lindsay and Lori | - From: Dust Bus to Filadelfia, Concepcion I thought our state fair had every deep-fried food option, but I must say a deep fried boiled egg is new to me! You two are so bloody brave with all that you've ingested since you've been away! What's up with the lying bus drivers? And most importantly- we've been happily Tivo-ing SYTYCD for your return! Stay safe! |
| 22nd June 2009 MonCon | so who had to run fast? - From: Dust Bus to Filadelfia, Concepcion So who had to set the camera up and run and jump in the pool to take the photo? Miss you guys!!! Love the mystery fire-ball-egg-thing face. |
| 21st June 2009 Madre | Anteater extraordinaire! - From: Dust Bus to Filadelfia, Concepcion My deepest thanks for tracking down the anteater! Don't forget there are at least 4 species -- progressively smaller in size. Who knows what the next zoo will have. Great sigh of relief on your arrival at Filadelfia -- looks like old Gila Bend, AZ in the summer. Stay safe and don't forget your sunscreen! |
| 21st June 2009 mom | Paraguay. - From: Dust Bus to Filadelfia, Concepcion Reading your blog makes me feel that I'm there with you. Thank you for giving me this experience, and I didn't even had to be in that dusty bus to Filadelfia. Loved the Sunset picture. Hard fried boiled eggs? LOL Yack! Mom |
| 19th June 2009 Sandra and Stephen | Alright Ms. Beaverhausen.. - From: Oso Hormiguero- Special For Vicki You got me. I have another photo of me higher up on the slide, cowering and hanging on for dear life. You would have too, that thing was a. really tall b. made of steel and c. in bolivia. SO, I slid down until I was comfortably low to the gound and had Stephen take another picture. THERE, happy! |
| 19th June 2009 Sandra and Stephen | Hi Chris - From: Copacabana & Isla Del Sol Thanks for the comment! Yes, we are having a really wonderful time. And we LOVED La Paz, it is such an interesting, quirky city. We were there for close to 2 weeks and nothing really sketchy ever happened to us.. My opinion is that it is a city and therefore any of the normal cityish precautions should be taken.. We avoided walking in unpopulated areas at night or alone. And we kept a tight arm around our belongings. Also, don´t be shy about riding the mini buses... They are fantastic, and once you get into the rythym, you can get almost anywhere for about 25 cents! Good luck and enjoy! PS. the hotel we stayed at in Copacbana lake titicaca was called Hotel Otama. We paid 25 dollars a night, but our room was soo nice, it was worth it. They have cheaper rooms too. Great breakfast included! |
| 18th June 2009 Chris Byrd | - From: Copacabana & Isla Del Sol I have been reading your blog, very interesting. Could you tell me the name of your hotel on Lake Titicaca as I will also be travelling there. You stayed in LaPaz for quite awhile. I am sometimes not the bravest backpacker but I am travelling with my neice. Are there any concerns or things to be aware of in LaPaz as I was told it is kind of sketchy. It sounds like you are having an amazing time. |
| 17th June 2009 Anastasia Beaverhausen | HAHAHAHAHAAH. It cracks me up - From: Oso Hormiguero- Special For Vicki how you and dad are exactly the same when it comes to lame jokes. He has a picture just like this one with you on the slide but he is on a pile of snow. He wanted me to take a picture of him "sliding" down what looked like a mountain. But it wasn't and all he did for this affect of "sliding" was sit down and throw his hands up. It's funny cause it looks like you did the same thing. |
| 16th June 2009 Sandra and Stephen | Zimmy - From: Samaipata Yes, I´ll need to catch up on my American tv when I get home. T-vo Zimmy for me ok?? (AND Linds, you´re tivoing SYTYCD I trust!!! ;) Javalina might be too close to Guinea pig for me, thus violating my ¨no eating pets¨rule. We´ll see.. |
| 16th June 2009 Patfar | Zimmern - From: Samaipata Well, you could be seeing lots of interesting stuff in Bolivia and Peru and all. But, because of this you're missing the new season of Bizarre Foods. First up: Texas barbacoa (= whole cow's head wrapped in foil and cooked in a pit overnight) and slow-roasted javelina (aka peccary, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peccary). Javelina is some kind of rodent that looks like a hairy little pig. Speaking of mildly gamey meats that are redolent of the barnyard, have you gotten to try any Cavia porcellus? |
| 15th June 2009 mom | Flowers on the roof: - From: Samaipata Great idea, why didn't I think of that? Did you use the sauna? Look what I just found out: Santa Cruz to Filadelfia-Paraguai : 23 hours by bus- if they stop in the right place. Most of it dirty roads. Lots of dust. Filadelfia to Assunçao- 7 hour bus trip. Assunçao to Iguaçu Falls - about 6 hours Iguaçu Falls to Londrina- 7 hours. You guys are troopers. Very proud of you, mom Love mom |
| 15th June 2009 Lindsay and Lori | - From: Samaipata How are Stephen's allergies in South America thus far? How about after sitting around with his cribbage partner? At least it was a cute kitty! i think that the Landhaus looks wonderful, I could see myself enjoying it there! I'd also be willing to torch a few books to have a fireplace! Can't wait to hear what Paraguay has to offer. <3 |
| 15th June 2009 MOM | Gran Poder e Futebol - From: The Last of La Paz- Futbol & Gran Poder Voce e Steban ja devem estar falando bem o espanhol. | 11th June 2009 Julia | - From: The Last of La Paz- Futbol & Gran Poder Looks like you're staying away from the more exotic foods... Hm wonder why that is. Haha jk. Good thing, you dont need to get sick anymore. Man. I'm so jealous. I'm sun bathing at a swimming pool here catching up on all of your blogs imagining I'm vacationing somewhere far away. Haha. This is gonna be the closest thing as a vacation as its gonna get for me this summer. : / Love youuuuuuuu |

The fried cheese thing is calling me to La Paz. Swear. Haha Shouldnt you watch your step any time you're walking? Hahaha Glad tp hear your ok. That could have ended up bad. |

| 9th June 2009 Erin | Hola - From: Oruru- "Town of Mystery" Wait what happened with the soccer tickets? I assume that since you didnt comment it was a bust? I am so proud of you for falling gracefully! Oh and Happy Birthday! It must be the 9th in South America by now. I hope Stephan treats you to a nice hot purple corn drink and some lamb. Miss you! E |
| 9th June 2009 Ethan | ?? - From: Oruru- "Town of Mystery" WOW! This place sounds cool! MAN! I wish I could be there to eat that lamb. And Coconut marshmallows sound good two! Man, Im surprised that restrant charged you 35$ wile the rest of your meals were really cheap. Then again, its a five star restrant. Love ya guys. Ethan |
| 8th June 2009 MOM | Colita?? - From: Oruru- "Town of Mystery" Maybe Colita was not lamb but a bird? Look at its head, eyes and bick! Loved the pictures of the 3 mamasitas. So tipical of Bolivia. Great picture of you eating coconut mashmallow. Awsome blog; I learn so much about each place you go, for example: the burn of the sugar tablet. Should I try at home? Happy Birthday tomorrow. |
| 5th June 2009 MOM | Buenos Dias - From: Used Car Market / The Dentist OR I Fell Into A Hole I can't wait until the next blog to find out how was your experience getting soccer tickets, and your next adventure. With all de empanadas and churros and hot dogs I can see how it would be difficult to find some grassy and herbaceous food to eat in Bolivia. One thing would never find in the US is someone teaching haging techniques in public. Even as a joke! HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOVE! MOM |
| 4th June 2009 Sandra and Stephen | traveling - From: La Paz: Food, Glorious Food Rooms!! We´re gonna be away I think until end of July-ish , or whenever we run out of dough, whichever comes first! Miss you, wish we were gonna be there for Jim-stravaganza and your bday.. Next year for sure.. |
| 4th June 2009 Sandra and Stephen | har har har - From: La Paz: Food, Glorious Food very funny smart butt! |
| 3rd June 2009 Sandra | Oops, there you are! - From: Used Car Market / The Dentist OR I Fell Into A Hole I just couldn't help but laugh about the "hole." When you were 4 years old, I would visit you in LaJolla. I usually joined you at your playground in the neighborhood and met the "gang". I would go into the apartment and see about dinner and came out and couldn't find you anywhere. I asked the kids and most of them were scattered about and then a manhole cover popped up and there you were! I can't imagine what the "draw" is for you! I am glad you are having a great time and even had a visit to the dentist - was that before your "drop". Stay well! Hugs, Grams |
| 2nd June 2009 critfar | a respectable but not quite there lunch - From: La Paz: Food, Glorious Food eggplant parmesan. probably one of my favorite foods, but hard to get the perfect one since everybody makes it different. today i had trader joe's microwavable version. like i said, its not quite there. it definitely lacks an in depth flavor- always a crucial part. first bite- too hot to even taste it, last few bites- too cold. so you lose a lot. the cheese was good, but it needed more and the eggplant seemed over cooked. but i guess it was good enough for a 10 min. meal |
| 2nd June 2009 Sarah | Hi Roomie - From: La Paz: Food, Glorious Food Hey Roomie! Wow, your adventures sound fun and your pics are awesome!! The hot dog looks yummy but not sure about the stomach and all that. :) How long will you guys be traveling? I will be living vicariously through you so have lots of fun!! :) Love ya!!! |
| 2nd June 2009 Sandra and Stephen | Bread - From: La Paz: Food, Glorious Food The bread has been just so-so... There are a lot of bakeries and people selling bread on the street, but nothing too special. Theres this one bread they make that is closer to a corn bread that is excellent, but it hasn´t been abundant. But maybe to convince Lors to come I should lie and say the bread is heavenly.. It certainly is cheap. |
| 2nd June 2009 Sandra and Stephen | ethan is funny - From: La Paz: Food, Glorious Food No worries, he cracks me up.. I thought the same thing about the old bicycle guy.. |

| 2nd June 2009 Preet | hey! - From: Ollantaytambo and... MACHU PICCHU!!! SO SO SO amazing. This is making me want to go to South America more and more. I'm going to Belize next week and can't wait! Looks like y'all are having a fabulous time! |
| 1st June 2009 Lindsay and Lori | - From: La Paz: Food, Glorious Food I love the juice lady! Could you bring her home to me? As far as the other food...ummm, it can stay! How are the bread products? Are there local bakeries with bread? Is it flat bread? Also- I apologize for Ethan's comments, he's trying to be funny but it might be coming across as offensive?! Your (Sandra's) mom mentioned that you might be going to Argentina, is this still the plan? Can't wait for the next installment, keep it coming! |
| 31st May 2009 Ethan | comments - From: La Paz: Food, Glorious Food Man! those hot sound excellent! Why the heck did he only give you 2 french fries? and how much of the meat plate did stephen eat? and south america must have lazy waiters if he really brought you a bottle and said to drink half. I wonder i he gets ripped off this way? sounds like you guys are having a good time. p.s can you guys get a hot dog in a doggy bag for me? lol |
| 30th May 2009 Sandra and Stephen | Thank you! - From: Copacabana & Isla Del Sol For taking such good care of our baby!! |
