Roadtrip It's Brucey all the way

We left Kieran Kate's on 25th September to start our roadtrip adventure 13 days to drive up the Bruce Highway from Brisbane to Cairns. This trip is about km but when you factor in the side trips it is probably a little over 2000km.For this roadtrip we rented a Wicked van which you see all over Oz as they are geraed towards the backpacker on a budget that is until you factor in all of t

Australia part 1 Sydney Brisbane and Byron Bay

It's well over a month since I last logged on let alone made an entry so thought I'd better make a concerted effort this morning. From Bali we took the 6 hour flight into Sydney. Now a little grumble here as our round the world tickets are with BA Qantas yet they stuck us on JetStar which is the equivalent of EasyJet fine for a couple of hours but when you've got 'Bali Belly' or hangove

Aaaaaaaaaaah how annoying the computers here are so slow that I was just saving a blog and it took so long it timed out and wiped what I'd written second time luckySo we woke up at ridiculous o'clock 5.30am and we were picked up by a bus that took us to a boat to Lombok where we got on another bus that took us to another boat that took us to Gili Trawangan GT.
Singapore

The past few days we've done some industrial travelling and had SO many early starts you wouldn't believe From Borneo we arrived back in Kuala Lumpur and the following day we took another coach journey across the border into Singapore. We're staying in a rather strange hostel in Little India. I say strange as I don't think they planned on opening just yet and Mike and I were the first guests

Monkeying about in Borneo

Air Asia turned out to be pretty good actually and just after 2 hours after leaving KL we touched down in the north of Borneo. After finding ourselves a place to stay we tried to investigate any sort of night life however Borneo is still not on the main backpacker trail which is nice and so not much goes on here. It reminds me slightly of China where Westerners aren't a regular occurence and

Kuala Lumpur a return to civilisation

After a very luxurious coach journey from the Cameron Highlands the seats are like armchairs we arrived in Kuala Lumpur. Now I know that I shouldn't moan about this but we'd been on beaches pretty much for the past 4 weeks or so and so it was quite nice to get back to a more civilised place. The last big city we went to was Bangkok which as you probably gathered we didn't really like so it

Afternoon tea in the Cameron Highlands

To break the coach journey up between the Perhentian Islands and KL we stopped off on route at the Cameron Highlands. One of the reasons for this is that it's a lot cooler there. The accommodation there was a little over budget approx 20 a night between us however it was an apartment and as we walked in we actually thought that it was someone's home. So it was nice just to relax in the eveni

Paradise in Perhentian Islands

On the 28th June we finally left Thailand and headed into Malaysia on an 8 hour bus ride. Our first destination was the Perhentian Islands which are two islands the large and the small. The larger one has slightly nicer accommodation and is therefore slightly more expensive needless to say we stayed on the smaller island The island is quite stunning. As we got off the boat the sea was so cl

Railay Beach

It's low season on the West coast of Thailand so Railay Beach about 45 mins from Krabi was pretty quiet. Again we didn't do that much there even though we stayed for 3 days. Mike decided to do a little bit of rock climbing as this is the main attraction in the area and I decided to be an official photographer.Again we watched a couple of hooky films in the evenings and was quite glad that w

Krappi Krabi

From Railay Beach we went to Krabi. We had heard the name before and knew that travellers came here so we went to the TAT office and booked 3 nights accommodation. What we didn't realise was the majority of people come here and then leave the following day. The room was nice but the star attraction was definately the power shower. You just cannot understand how nice this was. Having lived in

Peeing down in Phi Phi

Some of you may remember the name Koh Phi Phi. This is one on the islands that was hit very badly in the Tsunami. 3 years on and there is quite a lot of building work being done to make it back into a paradise island. Were in Koh Phi Phi for 6 days altogether however this was mainly due to the monsoons that we had for 4 of those days. If it's raining there isn't a whole lot to do in beach resor

Pervy Phuket

I'm not going to really say much about this place as we were only there for a couple of days and we didn't do a whole lot. There seem to be a couple of reasonable good bars there and there's the beach but Patong Beach is like Patpong in Bangkok ie Sleazy. There is one strip of bars that all the dirty old pervy blokes go to to oggle the girls dancing on poles. The big question is... are they

I must apologise for being so bloody crap at keeping this thing up to date the truth is that we've just been island hopping for the past couple of weeks and relaxing after our ohsohectic travelling schedule. Now where did I leave this thing last time...... Oh god I've just realised that I left you in Koh Tao that's a good couple of weeks ago.Well we did the night dive which was pretty go

OK well not your great whites but a grey shark which are quite harmless apparently and are only aout 150cm but I still saw one all the same This was on the first dive of our Advanced Open Water course. The first dive we went all the way down to 30m. At that level you may get Narked Nitrogen Narcosis where you may feel a bit of a happy drunk feeling or may be a bit slower than usual

Right now I am on a little Thai island called Koh Tao where people basically come to dive and that's just what I've done. I wasn't too sure whether to take the PADI open water course as I've never been that keen on getting into the water and the thought of me in a wet suit was filling me with dread too. After umming and arring about whether or not to do it I decided to take the plunge no pu

... I'm sorry but I'm just sick of them and come to that anyone and every one that tries to rip tourists and even worse backpackers off. Do these people have no sense of conscience I won't go into details but we nearly didn't change our flights at the last available chance because of one of these 'a' holes. Anyway back to the trip..... So from Chiang Mai we took the over night train to B

We arrived in Chiang Mai on the 18th May and must admit we opted for the 40 minute flight instead of the 3 days by slow boat and bus. Apart from anything else I had a bit of a hang over after my birthday. Everyone we spoke to seems to rave about Chiang Mai and so was quite excited about it. It was ok but not one of my favourite places in the world so far. I think it was because of the real c

We thought we'd better get off our arses and do something so we went to the waterfall just outside of the city. It was fantastic. It's a tiered waterfall and the water was tourquoise pretty much the closest thing to paradise that I've seen so far. We had a swim and walked to the top of it which was quite spectacular. lso at the waterfall are Asian beers and a tiger all of which have been res

Now since we started out back in March we have done some industrial travelling. Now that we are In Laos we have slammed on the brakes and having a little bit of chill out time. Originally we weren't going to bother with Laos and were going to go from Cambodia through to Thailand. However every traveller we met said how amazing it is so we booked our selves on a flight from Siem Reap to Vient

It seems that the monsoon season has arrived a little early here as today it has absolutley peeed down and the other day I slipped down an entire flight of stairs that was wet and am now sporting a rather attractive bruise covering my entire thigh various shades of colour and was so swollen it looked like a 3rd arse cheek Will be a while until I get my swim suit out I think.
