Bonjour mon amis, comment ca va? Thanks for being so patient for my next travel blog. Saturday May 21st - Last weekend myself and some friends went to Austria to visit a family. We traveled along the German Auto bond Highway east across Germany to Austria. I was surprised in a few ways traveling along the Auto bond. First, I was shocked to see that this highway stretch we traveled along only had 2 lanes going in each direction. I must have “hyped up” the lore of the Auto bond that I’m sure most Americans have. Another observation is how strictly the travelers follow the rules of passing on the left lane and once done passing moving your vehicle to the right lane on the Auto bond. It was refreshing to see this especially because I’ve ... read more

Europe » Germany » Rhineland-Palatinate May 19th 2011

Guten Tag friends and family. Thanks for checking out my first blog entry. Figured I would start this trip off by giving all of you a glimpse into how my flying experiences have gone the past few years. It seems like every time I have flown I either get searched or my baggage does. This trip to Frankfurt, Germany was no exception. While going through Detroit Airport Security I went through the body scanner. After this I was escorted by two TSA security personnel to a private room where they gave me an intimate pat down because there was a body scanner image "anomaly" that showed up in my groin area (insert comments now). What a great way to start my European adventure, haha. My buddy Chuck and I then flew to Brussels, Belgium for my ... read more

Europe » France » Aquitaine » Bordeaux August 20th 2008

Day 1 Bordeaux, Aug. 19th, 2008 I arrived into Bordeaux via the night train at 8:20am. On the night train I only had a reclining seat and because I am a picky sleeper I was only able to get 3-4 hours of sleep. Before arriving in Bordeaux I checked out the tourist website for Bordeaux wine tours. Sidenote: Bordeaux is on the southeast side of France near the coast is the largest wine producing region in France. They are known for their red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. They also produce some excellent white wines but in MUCH smaller qualities. I know a little bit about wine and thanks to my girlfriend who bought me a great book I am becoming more educated. When I arrived in Bordeaux the weather was terrible. ... read more

Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Florence August 16th 2008

Day 1 Florence, Aug. 13, 2008 When getting off the train I followed the hostel’s directions and found it easily. The hostel’s location was great because it was near the train station, a huge market, and 5-10min from all the sites in Florence. When checking into the hostel I was pleasantly surprised to find it was clean..the rooms were 2 levels and it had free WiFi (a big plus). My room was on the lower floor and I had a bed next to a window that overlooked Florence. The window was huge and when opened it gave great views and a refreshing breeze. The WiFi worked but not as well I would’ve hoped. When checking in I met a girl named Alana from New Zealand, she was 6ft 1in tall and was traveling alone also. We ... read more

ROMA Day 1 Rome Aug. 7th, 2008 I arrived in Rome on Thursday Aug. 7th at 2:30pm. After entering the airport I was curious to observe if my luggage (my internal frame backpack) would arrive or not. Since I have been in Europe I have heard horror stories of lost luggage at Italian airports. I have been told that is because Italians are lazy and enjoy going about their days in a leisurely pace. I waited for my luggage for 25 minutes and then some started to arrive…but not mine…needless to say I began to get worried. After waiting another 20 minutes I noticed luggage coming out of a different baggage claim and finally mine arrived. Half of my flight’s luggage came out one bag return. and the other ½ another…Italians  I have also heard ... read more

Europe » France August 8th 2008

Viva La France! For those who have been watching my log I’d like to begin by apologizing for not updating it as quickly as possible. My days have been busy sightseeing and nights have been full of making new friends from around the world. Secondly, I would like to state that I have slept for a total of 16 hours in the last 3 nights while in Paris so if I don’t make complete sense you will understand why :) When arriving to the Paris airport at 930am on Monday August 4th I did not receive a favorable impression of the French. When asking for directions in the aiport a French employee gave me a snoody attitude. This incident did not intimidate my willingness to apply the French I learned in high school and recently though. ... read more
