| 16th December 2009 Liliana | Thanks for the write-up - From: Adventures in the Colombian Highlands Barry, thanks for presenting Colombia in a wonderful light. I am a Colombian working here in the US and it is refreshing to read about all the good things we have to offer in Colombia, instead of just talking about the no so positive things of our country. Wonderful pictures and you may made me want to go and visit San Gil and Barichara. I visited Villa de Leyva my last visit to Colombia and also visited Raquira which is also a beautiful colorful town an hour away from Villa de Leyva. |

| 22nd January 2009 Ruth from Wales | food - From: A day at Machu Picchu Hi Eduardo. Thanks for the comment. In theory no food is allowed in. However, they don't check your bags on the way in, so you are pretty safe. Obviously don't take a huge amount but it is well worth taking enough to last for your visit (after a big breakfast!), some snacks for energy, etc. Oh, and take lots of water. Ruth |

| 29th August 2008 Ruth from Wales | route - From: A race through Honduras Hi Ben, thanks for the advice. Unfortunately (with big regrets!) we have had to cut El Salvador from our itinerary. Big time constraints just meant that we can't fit it in. Next time..!! |
| 28th August 2008 Ben | your trip - From: A race through Honduras You need to go o El Salvador before heading to Guatemala. If you plan in goig to Guatemala and then El Salvador you will have to go back and then go into a country you had already been in. So go to El Salvador through la Palma and go to Suchitoto from there you can go west and visit the north west little towns of El Salvador (Ruta de las Flowers) then get in to Guatemala and from there to Belize. Be safe and good luck to you. |

If by chance you happen to be in SoCal afterwards, contact me, I owe the Welsh a favor. Free place to hang and sail if you like TP |

| 24th March 2008 Andy | Very impressed! - From: It takes your breath away: adventures in the Atacama Desert Hi Guys We just wanted to say we're well impressed with the hike up to 5600m you did. In our first few days in Bolivia we were staying at 4000m and hiked up to just over 4600 and it really took it out of us. Know exactly what you mean about stopping every 20 paces. The peak sounds like an excellent find; I think we'll be checking out summitpost when we get to Peru. Not sure how long you're planning to stay in Bolivia but we really recommend Sajama national park if you get the chance. To get there you need to go to Patacamaya on the La Paz-Orouro road and find the minibus to Tambo Quemado/Sajama (Must leave around midday, 1pm). From there, well throw yourselves into the welcoming arms of the locals and enjoy the scenery. Cheers Andy and Gill |
| 22nd March 2008 Stephen Paul | I'll Say - From: It takes your breath away: adventures in the Atacama Desert My breath was taken away! It seems I follow your blogs because you are such a nature lover- your pictures are of the things I notice and want to see not random travel shots! youve captured the mystique of The North of Chile here, even though Ive never been... I that much closer to it from your blog! Cheers.. |
| 13th March 2008 barrygahan | On a point of grammar - From: A visit from home - time to be spoilt! Shouldn't it be "with Barry and me acting as tour guides" rather than "with Barry and I". Haha, only kidding babe, great blog and I think your pics are better than mine again! |
| 13th March 2008 Stephen Paul | What a Pity - From: A visit from home - time to be spoilt! Such a shame this post is classified under Mendoza when all but 4 of the wonderful pictures were taken in Beautiful Chile! :) Ive been following all of you and Barry's blogs, love the pics! Stay in Chile longer please! |
| 12th March 2008 Gill Prescott | Where to next? - From: It's February, must be time for Easter... Hi Ruth Just testing your blog address (and also Barry´s). I know you weren´t sure about it but the 4am start for the Tatio Geysers is well worth it if you have the time in San Pedro. We did the northern villages tour afterwards with Isabella (the Austrian girl from the other two tours!!!). We had a great day, just the 3 of us in a 4x4 pick up with ´Gino´. Hope you´re enjoying driving round the desert and manage to bag the volcano you were after. Take care Gill and Andy |
| 9th March 2008 barrygahan | Photography is the career for you... - From: It's February, must be time for Easter... when we go back ot London, these pics came out great! |
| 7th March 2008 rrruss | Hiking? - From: Survival of the Fittest - Hiking Cerro Campana (aka Darwin's Peak) Okay, we surrender, you guys do proper hiking! Still, it was good to have the boots back on but after a few weeks in sandals and flip-flops they felt a bit strange! |
| 5th March 2008 Carrie | that penguin - From: Antarctica The one...watching your ship! I LOVE IT! I'm a total stranger to you...but recently smitten with Antarctica...and that picture is really great!!!! Good job and happy happy travels! |
| 7th February 2008 Stephen Paul | Lovely! - From: Drove my chevy to the volcano..... Great pictures as usual. This is totally awesome, you 're spending more time than normal for backpackers in beautiful Central Chile! The Chilean Andes from north of Santiago to below Coihaique- over 1200 km- is saturated with National Park apon National Park. 5000 meter peaks turn to glacial canyons that turn to massive volcanos that turn to dense Monkey Puzzle forests that turn to Alerce Rainforests and granite peaks that turn to glacier capped fjords. Its like paradise for nature lovers! im so happy you shared a glimpse of this with the world. :) |
| 29th January 2008 barrygahan | What a great view... - From: Chilean Lake District - Volcano time! you had for most of that trail! |
| 28th January 2008 Ruth from Wales | Indeed - From: Chilean Lake District - Volcano time! It was indeed fuming, but fun! Hoping to get up towards Llaima in the next few days, so we will see if there is anything happening there now - I want to see lava! |
| 28th January 2008 Stephen Paul | great pics! - From: Chilean Lake District - Volcano time! A classic post on the spoils of Pucon. Looks like Villarica was fuming mad that day huh? Too bad you missed the explosions of Llaima by 3 weeks! :( And yes, you are in Pucon, Chile. And yes, I am very, very jealous. :-/ |
| 12th January 2008 Stephen Paul | Same! - From: Chilean Chiloe For the record the leafy plant might best be called Nalca, its Chilean name! While it is in the same class as Rhubarb- Magnoliopsida- so is practically every other fruit, flower and nut tree. I feel like if you are in the country of a specific plant, the name you call it should be in latin(Gunnera species) or the local name, Nalca. Call me crazy! :) I have loved your last few blogs, you are working your way up Chile now huh? Go off the beaten track, I better not see a summit of Villarica without corresponding pictures of the alpine lakes of Huerquehue!! And try to get to Llaima Volcano in Villarica, it was clam for me but spewed lava Jan 2!! |
| 6th January 2008 Stephen and Mum | Very nice - From: Ushuaia (Arg) to Torres del Paine (Chile) It all looks lovely. We were particularly impressed by the penguins! |

| 8th November 2007 Katherine | Agreed! - From: Driving a Fiat Uno around Tunisia This was wonderful reading, as my then 10-year old son and I did much the same thing at the same time as you! Imagine! I totally agree that this was one of the best holidays I have ever had. Loads to see, and the country is small enough that you can get around its diverse places. Just about the only places you mentioned that we didn't do were Djerba and Tozeur, and that's where we're going this winter! Can't wait!!! By the way, we used public transport all the time and found it comfortable, efficient, cheap and great fun for meeting locals! |
| 27th October 2007 rrruss | Que Linda! - From: Argentina's Far Northwest - finally the Andes!! Ruth (and Barry), it was wonderful to meet you. It's a shame it was for such a short time. Your photos are wonderful and we really enjoy reading about your experiences. Keep up the good work. Besos de Salta! |
| 25th October 2007 Shirley | Wonderful - From: Driving a Fiat Uno around Tunisia We're thinking of going here and this was a wonderful travelog. Such daring travelers. I'll have to go on a tour, however, as am not brave enough to drive around like they did! |
| 25th October 2007 Stephen Paul | Salty - From: Argentina's Far Northwest - finally the Andes!! Every travelblog of Salta I see has me yearning to visit, and yours is no exception! I rated a few photos. :) Salta looks like Arizona on acid- by that I mean its a desert and dry and has huge columnar cactus- yet the mountains are 3 times bigger, the latitude is much closer to the equator and history is much different! Love it! |
| 20th October 2007 Stephen Paul | Mariposa! - From: Water, water everywhere... I love the butterfly and the waterfalls! Cant wait to see your next destination... |

You sound to be having a great time! Is that a capybara in the picture? (I'm guessing it's not really Barry). Thanks very much for the book for my birthday - am taking it to India with me for light relief. Went to Delft overnight on the boat for my birthday, which was lovely. All is going well in Cam with S's PhD finished and his new job started this week. He actually has a secretary!! (not sure I approve of that). OK, I'll stop abusing the comment function now. Keep up the writing - we're enjoying it a lot. Love Camille xx |

| 5th June 2007 Stephen Paul | Who Knew?! - From: Long weekend in the Lakes I had no idea, and I consider myself a conniseur of Alpine lakes. Mainland England has glacially carved lakes, spectacular! I thought "The Lake District" of England I heard about was a bunch of ponds people go boating on. Actually finding these lakes on google earth in HI RES was cool! In fact, I then discovered Southwest Ireland also has glacial lakes on the tops of the 1000 meter peaks near the ocean. Awesome!!! I cant wait to see Scotland, Ireland and England someday!! |

| 21st November 2006 Najat Sinclair | - From: 8 days in Morocco Yes, you can hold hands while visiting Morocco. Apperently, you did have the wrong idea about Morocco in the first place. Despite the fact that Morocco is a muslim country, there is freedom after all. You should have visited other big cities like casablanca and Agadir in order to understand that this country is not living in the middle ages. Morocco combines both modernism and the old in order to go towards a brighter future. |

| 28th August 2006 Stephen Paul | Great Trip! - From: A hot weekend in Madrid and Toledo Looks like a great trip! The food especially. Im sure for me the weather would have been perfect, hot and dry just like home. Its funny, I see we are both putting travelling on hold for a year or two, travelling locally meanwhile. For you, that means Spain, Prague and even Morocco- for me it means Yosemite, Las Vegas and Mt. Shasta- I think you have access to more exotic places!! :) |
