learning to drive/Christmas - From: A place I really should live in: Andalucia
its high time Barry learned to drive. if I had your address I would send a) Christmas card and b) BSM vouchers as it is I have a heavy cold & am stuck in London before migrating to a place that doesnt feature nearly enough in the blog - God's own country (Wiltshire). Our door is always open (even I am not always behind it). Happy Christmas and love to you both.

Thanks for the write-up - From: Adventures in the Colombian Highlands
Barry, thanks for presenting Colombia in a wonderful light. I am a Colombian working here in the US and it is refreshing to read about all the good things we have to offer in Colombia, instead of just talking about the no so positive things of our country. Wonderful pictures and you may made me want to go and visit San Gil and Barichara. I visited Villa de Leyva my last visit to Colombia and also visited Raquira which is also a beautiful colorful town an hour away from Villa de Leyva.

Hi Eduardo. Thanks for the comment. In theory no food is allowed in. However, they don't check your bags on the way in, so you are pretty safe. your trip - From: A race through Honduras
You need to go o El Salvador before heading to Guatemala. If you plan in goig to Guatemala and then El Salvador you will have to go back and then go into a country you had already been in. So go to El Salvador through la Palma and go to Suchitoto from there you can go west and visit the north west little towns of El Salvador (Ruta de las Flowers) then get in to Guatemala and from there to Belize. Be safe and good luck to you.

Very impressed! - From: It takes your breath away: adventures in the Atacama Desert
Hi Guys We just wanted to say we're well impressed with the hike up to 5600m you did. In our first few days in Bolivia we were staying at 4000m and hiked up to just over 4600 and it really took it out of us. Know exactly what you mean about stopping every 20 paces. The peak sounds like an excellent find; I think we'll be checking out summitpost when we get to Peru. Not sure how long you're planning to stay in Bolivia but we really recommend Sajama national park if you get the chance. To get there you need to go to Patacamaya on the La Paz-Orouro road and find the minibus to Tambo Quemado/Sajama (Must leave around midday, 1pm). From there, well throw yourselves into the welcoming arms of the locals and enjoy the scenery. Cheers Andy and Gill

Great pictures as usual. This is totally awesome, you 're spending more time than normal for backpackers in beautiful Central Chile! The Chilean Andes from north of Santiago to below Coihaique- over 1200 km- is saturated with National Park apon National Park. 5000 meter peaks turn to glacial canyons that turn to massive volcanos that turn to dense Monkey Puzzle forests that turn to Alerce Rainforests and granite peaks that turn to glacier capped fjords. Its like paradise for nature lovers! im so happy you shared a glimpse of this with the world. :)

For the record the leafy plant might best be called Nalca, its Chilean name! While it is in the same class as Rhubarb- Magnoliopsida- so is practically every other fruit, flower and nut tree. I feel like if you are in the country of a specific plant, the name you call it should be in latin(Gunnera species) or the local name, Nalca. Call me crazy! :) I have loved your last few blogs, you are working your way up Chile now huh? Go off the beaten track, I better not see a summit of Villarica without corresponding pictures of the alpine lakes of Huerquehue!! And try to get to Llaima Volcano in Villarica, it was clam for me but spewed lava Jan 2!!

Salty - From: Argentina's Far Northwest - finally the Andes!!
Every travelblog of Salta I see has me yearning to visit, and yours is no exception! I rated a few photos. :) Salta looks like Arizona on acid- by that I mean its a desert and dry and has huge columnar cactus- yet the mountains are 3 times bigger, the latitude is much closer to the equator and history is much different! Love it!

Hi Ruth, Am enjoying keeping up to date with your adventures on here. You sound to be having a great time! Is that a capybara in the picture? (I'm guessing it's not really Barry). Thanks very much for the book for my birthday - am taking it to India with me for light relief. Went to Delft overnight on the boat for my birthday, which was lovely. All is going well in Cam with S's PhD finished and his new job started this week. He actually has a secretary!! (not sure I approve of that). OK, I'll stop abusing the comment function now. Keep up the writing - we're enjoying it a lot. Love Camille xx

Who Knew?! - From: Long weekend in the Lakes
I had no idea, and I consider myself a conniseur of Alpine lakes. Mainland England has glacially carved lakes, spectacular! I thought "The Lake District" of England I heard about was a bunch of ponds people go boating on. Actually finding these lakes on google earth in HI RES was cool! In fact, I then discovered Southwest Ireland also has glacial lakes on the tops of the 1000 meter peaks near the ocean. Awesome!!! I cant wait to see Scotland, Ireland and England someday!!

Yes, you can hold hands while visiting Morocco. Apperently, you did have the wrong idea about Morocco in the first place. Despite the fact that Morocco is a muslim country, there is freedom after all. You should have visited other big cities like casablanca and Agadir in order to understand that this country is not living in the middle ages. Morocco combines both modernism and the old in order to go towards a brighter future.

Great Trip! - From: A hot weekend in Madrid and Toledo
Looks like a great trip! The food especially. Im sure for me the weather would have been perfect, hot and dry just like home. Its funny, I see we are both putting travelling on hold for a year or two, travelling locally meanwhile. For you, that means Spain, Prague and even Morocco- for me it means Yosemite, Las Vegas and Mt. Shasta- I think you have access to more exotic places!! :)
