I am here in Guatemala until May of 2012. Through December I am volunteering with an organization that helps kids whose mothers work collecting garbage in the huge dump in Guatemala City. In January I will volunteer with an organization called CEADEL (El Centro de Estudios y Apoyo de la Educacion Local). CEADEL supports women who work in the maquilas, or textile factories. They investigate labor code violations, educate women about their labor rights, and have trainings about how to protect oneself in the workplace, how to organize, and how to assert labor rights.
