Have you any song that could be recommend? Before I go Me and my family sends greetings of a very Merry Christmas to all and God Bless everyone.

Seafaris Powerboat Eco-tour - From: Underwater Sculpture Park
Fantastic Pictures Rum Runner they really show the natural environment taking over the statues which is what they were designed to do. We stop at the statues with our guests on a regular basis so it has been enthralling watching them change over time. Just for your own information the man at the desk is called the Lost correspondent and depicts the evolution of news and history in Grenada. You can't really see them now but his desk is inlaid with all sorts of items such as papers and items from the revoultion and more recently some tickets from the Cricket World Cup. He really was the lost correspondent at one point as strong surges picked him up and stuck him under the reef. Luckily the divers from Dive Grenada restored him to his rightful position. Best regards. Suzanne

Buried treasure on Cave Cay - From: Cave Cay
My wife and I visited Cave Cay in the summer of '85 or '86 after we earned thirteen sailing trophies in the Abacos to win the overall prize known as the Victor Ludorem Trophy. After venturing to Cave Cay we buried five or six of the silver platters inside some of the smaller but accessable caves with just an inch or two protruding from the sandy floor. We have often wondered in any of these items were found. Don Moore

Banana Plants - From: St. Lucia
The plastic bags are partially for pests, but mostly to speed up ripening; faster turnaround makes for a more efficient banana plant. Also, they aren't trees, which my children love to point out to me when I say it wrong. Our public schools are getting more efficient, too, I guess.

- From: Great Harbor Cay
I have spent a lot of time on Great Harbour as a child and now. My grandparents own a cottage on the island. I noticed that you said you wanted to go back because you really enjoyed the island. I just wanted to give you a few good ideas on what to do. Extremely close to shark creek is a beach that the locals call sand dollar beach. If you go at the perfect time (low tide) you will see more sand dollars and star fish than you have ever seen in your whole entire life. Our families have contests on who can find the largest, smallest, and most sand dollars. All dead of course. Also a great fishing place to go is the pillings. If you are docked in the marina it is extremely easy place to get to, and the only place my grandparents let me and my cousins take the boat alone. If you are going out of the cut and turn your boat to the right, it will be right there. The last place you must go is the blue hole. It is a bit further than the rest of the places and I do not exactly remember how to get there, but any local will know. It is about a 20 minute boat ride from the island and it is a must see. Hope you go back. Enjoy!

RE: Unfortunately... - From: A National Geographic Moment
We are very eco-friendly trevelers and am aware of the plight of the leatherback turtle- they are an endangered species. That is why we went to Matura Bay Turtle Sanctuary. If you read the blog, then you would notice that this society has done everything possible to protect the turtle nesting ground- including stop many hotel developments. In fact, you must apply for government permits months in advance to even visit this beach and it is patroled by park wardens. Matura Bay Turtle Sanctuary also sponsors many programs and research projects to help protect the leatherback turtles and has in fact seen a significant increase in turtle landings and nests since their involvement over 15 years ago. I am well aware of other "touristy attractions" that visit beaches for turtle watching that have impacted the beach and led to the decrease of turtle landings. However, the Matura Bay Turtle Sanctuary is not one of them and deserves our support. Thank you.

Hi, I love the detailed info from your May 15th posting. I'm new at this and this is my first time accessing the travel blogs. My 21-yrs old daughter and I will have 10 days in PR from the last week of Aug. We have 5 day hotel reservation in San Juan but like to know any nearby areas to visit after our first 5 days. Which areas you suggest if we decide to stay in the PR? We like beaches, snorkeling, rain forest, arts, culture and historical sites but not party life. We wanted to go to Cuba but don't know how to get there from PR. Should we consider Jamaica, Turks & Caicos instead? Also, should we buy travel insurance because of hurricane during that period? We are grateful for any suggestions. Kam

To add - From: Driving in Puerto Rico
There are many places that you can visit in PR. I am from PR. You just need to get a descent rate price for the hotel(s). Make reservations before you come so you would be able to get better hotel prices. If you do not want to drive a lot and you can afford staying a couple of days in the north, a couple in the west, a couple in ponce, it is also a good idea also. Driving in Puerto Rico is not that bad. It is similar to US. Maybe you will find it different but it is not too different. I say this because I have been in Dominican Republic and there is really different. I tell you; over there they use the horn as the brakes. There is really hard to drive. I have nothing against my Dominican republican brothers it is just the way they drive over there. Now, I will advise some places that you can visit in different part of the island. I am not going to tell you the exact directions but you just need to know the place and its city; then, you can just ask once in that city. North - City/San Juan. - Place / Old San Juan - area of the cruise’s harbor. North - City/Hato Rey - Place / Plaza Las Americas Mall. (The bigger here) Northeast - City/Rio Grande - El Yunque National Forest. My recommendation is to wear shorts of swim suit, you’re going to walk but there are a couple of rivers that you might like to swim into. Northwest - City/Arecibo - Arecibo Radio Telescope. Northwest - City/Isabela - Best pizza (I think). Carr.2 turn at intersection carr.112 and 3 mins. In front of an unbranded gasoline station. West North - City/Aguadilla - 1) Beach-Crash boat 2) Swimming park-Las Cascadas West - City/Mayaguez - Mayaguez Mall West - City/Cabo Rojo/Boqueron - Beach Buyé / Carr. 2 int. carr. 100 and after 13 mins. To the right is Boqueron county and 7 minutes more to Buye Beach. Southwest - City Guanica - Beaches Caña Gorda and then Beach Tamarindo (7 mins. After Caña Gorda. Another beach (not completely with clear waters but for the one asking, good bikinis) is Playa Santa also here in Guanica. South - Ponce (I live here). This thread has talked about places in Ponce already, nicely. Just to add, the museum of ponce, where the “Flaming June” paint belongs to. But I think it is going to be closed for a year or so. Also south of ponce at 6 mile from the coast is Caja de Muerto island for the beach. Go to la guancha area in ponce and take the ferry/boat Saturdays and Sundays. Should be there at 8:00 if you do not have reservations. Boat departs before 9 am and returns at 4 pm. You have to bring your beverages, food and water in gallons (a couple) for your salty body. Travel in boat is one hour each way. You can also visit Flamingo the beach of the city of Culebra but by plane or boat. It is to the east of Puerto Rico. I have told you not everything but some of the best places and best beaches to visit (clear waters is there is not a lot of wind). ps: nowadays there are not a lot of public phones but you can bring your cel. from at&t(former cingular), suncom, verizon here was bought by Claro, Sprint. I use sprint. Or you can buy a prepaid one here at walmart, kmart, etc.

Yikes...that is quite a rip. Those Caribbean winds can get ugly. So you're getting closer to us. Throw in a tack or two and get the hell here! Well not here...Montserrat... because we'll be gone by Friday. How about Antigua. We'll be there in a week or so and probably staying for awhile. By the way.....look for sailing vessel Bellagio. Our cruising friends Kathy and Kerry are currently in BVI and taking their time about moving on. Their next stops will be Peter and Norman islands. They're lots of fun too but being that their Canadians....they're metric. So be prepared.

Wow, what a great trip. My husband and I are planning to visit Puerto Rico in August with our two boys, 17 and 10. Could you recommond a resort with beautiful girls in bikinis (for my 17 yo) and snorkeling, pool and rain forest (for my 10 yo)? Any suggestion is welcome, I am completely confused with all the choices.

I would be interested to learn of other such developments on offer and how to find out about them - see you all in Exuma - Al

Black Point--Truly Heaven on Earth - From: Black Point
When I was a child, my family and I lived on Black Point for several years. My first and fondest memories are of life on that island, swimming, eating Coco plums, walking through the bush on our way to North Side, the looooong mailboat ride to Nassau, and many more! Lorraine is a personal friend of the family, and when she was just getting into business my father (known to the locals as "Brudda' Steve") would take my mom (commonly referred to as "Sista' Joy") on dates to her cafe. I love the islands, Black Point in particular, and would move back in a fraction of a heartbeat.

All I can say is "WOW", too, about the bananaquits. Like I said before, you should write a book when you are finished with your adventure. You could make A LOT of cash. It would pay for the whole thing! Then you can take another adventure, and write a book about that, and so on, and so on. Also, you should write a book about the dos and don'ts of equipping the boat. Lucky duckies - From: Great Guana Cay
Hi, Jay and Jen: I have a dear friend named Bob, live aboard S/V Pellucid, in and about the Abacos. He charters with a Boy Scouts program out of Marsh Harbor during a few weeks in the spring, and then June through mid-August. I was fortunate to be able to last visit for ten days in the first half of March, just before moving from Miami, where I've lived for many years, to Ft. Myers. A change of profession and life purpose. Used to be computer network engineer, now in energetic healing/body work (www.inawareness.com). Anyway, Bob and I visited a couple, Bill & Leslie, who live on Manjack, and have built/created a wonderful, sustainable home on their property there, and a trail across to ocean side, as well. Warm, lovely people. If you get a chance, visit them. I'd have to look in my Abacos Guide to recall name of their bay, west side of Manjack, and right now, and its still buried deep in boxes. We also anchored in Bakers Bay, I recall being there before the development, being able to walk across to ocean side. I, too, wish the development was not. Bob intends to be next weekend at Heritage Festival in Green Turtle. If you are around there then, if you can find S/V Pellucid (www.pellucid.org), you will find Bob. I was looking for info about Bill & Leslie on Manjack, stumbled into your blog, thought I send you a note. If you get to the Ft. Myers area, it would be fun to meet. 239-433-1916/kathybledsoe@mac.com. Isn't it beautiful being where you are? Best of travels and adventures. Be well.

Glad to see that you both are having fun and enjoying the trip! I saw Manatee's in the wild when I visited Grandma and Grandpa Johnson last December. They are fun to watch even though they are not as animated as some other animals. Be Safe!!

Great Again! - From: Ft. Pierce
Thanks again for your great posting and pics, Jen. Even though it takes hours to do, don't stop them! The sunrise pic reminds me of a sunrise I watched over Lake Huron on the Little Yankee one morning WAY back in 1967 when I was sailing overnight with my parents and had the early morning shift. I agree, there is nothing like watching the sun rise from a sailboat over the water. I have a picture of it somewhere and will have to find it now! Both of you are always in my thoughts and prayers.......Love, MomJJ (Known as GrandmaJJ by Taylor & Nicole, so I can me momjj too.)

Connections - From: Ft. Pierce
What a shot of Jay with the fish - I'm not sure I've ever seen you so relaxed and happy. You both seem to be in your true element on the water. Keep a lookout for a 34' Catamaran, Caesar's Ghost, skippered by Di Hunter, traveling with two other 76yr old widows, Sally Goodrich and Nancy Stimson. They may be in Ft Pierce waiting to make the crossing. My friend here in Ridgway, Penny Hanshaw, knows these ladies and has said you would really enjoy them. They might be seen around the harbor wearing T-shirts with their motto, "Life is short. Do it now." Sounds like you, eh?? Love ya', Mom

And just the right amount of information. I know you said it was hard to decide what and what not to post. I think we will all have an idea as to how difficult the traveling was without wishing you back. The stops along the way look great so am glad you had a chance to enjoy yourselves. Provisioning was sounding like all work no play. I've been trying to figure out the weather for the crossing but need a course in map reading. Anyway, happy sailing. My love and prayers, dear ones. Questions - From: Is the Fastest Route to the Bahamas thru Bermuda?
Looks like the questions I was going to ask were already asked! Hopefully they will be answered in the next entrie. As for Kona, while he is sitting by his food, I gather he is calculating how many days and hours of his food supply is left. Love you a lot and am thinking of both of you every hour of each day!....Mom(Jean)

Brilliant or Stupid? - From: Is the Fastest Route to the Bahamas thru Bermuda?
Dearest Jay, Brilliant, of course! Choosing to gain experience on someone else's boat with a skipper and crew of experience is a wonderful opportunity. May you have a safe and uneventful journey back to the Rum Runner with a readiness to hit the high seas and the easy island livin' (right?). We will all be eager to hear tales of the trip, next in line after Jen and Kona, of course. Jen, do hope you and salty dog have continued the provisioning process while Jay is at work ............. how much more can the boat hold and where in the world are you finding room? Love you bunches!!!!!! Mom

Pushed the wrong button on that last one and the comment got sent unfinished. Who is manning the blog? I suspect Jen is. Who has the camera, there again, I think Jen. Will we still be getting pics of Kona or did he go with Jay? I assume Kona is a little perplexed either way and is wondering where Jay is or where Jen is. He is probably sitting by his food just in case.

Thank god you guys are ok. There probably are a lot of people that are happy you were there to tighen up their lines. Did Kona help or was he tied up down below? No doubt the dolphins had something to do with your escaping harm. Dark and Stormy seems to be the theme. Is the drink only the rum and ginger beer? Maybe it is time to switch drinks to Sunny and Breezey. Do you guys plan on getting skype? If you get a camera, we can talk to you and see you too, all over the computer.
