I started out washing the dishes this evening, but Rich said I didn't know how, so I'm writing the blog instead. He's finishing the dishes. :) This morning we had breakfast in a little local restaurant where everybody knew everybody. The customers knew the waitresses, too. I was enjoying listening to their accent, but Rich couldn't understand anything anyone was saying. He couldn't even read their lips. I had to repeat everything. Our plan for the day was to head up to Salem. When we got there, there were a lot of people because it's almost Halloween, which for witches in [View Full Entry]

Today we had a relaxing , restful day. Rich went to town and got a haircut and some groceries. Nancy did some paperwork. Then we played backgammon. Rich has won three tournaments out of three. Since we didn't take any pictures today, have you seen our grandson? [View Full Entry]

We learned so much today that this is going to be a long blog. Be prepared! First thing, bright and early, we took Daisy to a kennel for the day. Then we drove to a hotel to be picked up by the Boston Tours mini-bus. The driver stopped at three other spots and picked up others. Then we started the tour. The driver could have been a stand-up comedian. He actually did stand up and deliver his funny lines sometimes. His history seems to be accurate because Nancy checked on-line about the stories we weren't sure about - if he was pulling [View Full Entry]

Hey, all you friends and relatives, relative friends, and friendly relatives, we found out that we're not homesick, but we're friendsick. Give us a call or e-mail us about what's happening back home or in your lives. Like how are you doing, Marna? (775) 450-6685 or rscott@pyramid.net. Next, I must apologize for the spelling of Plimoth Plantation. I had it right in front of me and put a "u" where they didn't! For all you Dayton teachers, I almost bought two Plimoth Plantation DVD's to solve our old video problem, but I didn't. :) There were several school buses filled with [View Full Entry]

Today we went to the town of Plymouth to see the sights. Since Plymouth was spelled several ways in the 1600's, it was decided that the Plimouth Plantation Museum would be spelled with an "i" to distinguish it from the town that has a "y". First, at the museum, there was a short introductory film. Then we walked back outside (a beautiful day) and down a path into the woods. At a corner, we passed a circle of large stones with another stone in the middle. Rich wondered at its significance. Then we rounded the corner and saw a compound of [View Full Entry]

Oh, my goodness. What a day! We started the day by filling out our Absentee Ballots and getting them in the mail. Then we headed out for Cape Cod. It's a windy day, so we're glad we didn't have the camper along. When we got there, our first stop was the Welcome Center. We said that we only had one day to see Cape Cod and what were the highlights that we shouldn't miss. We got a list. Then we asked where the best place for clam chowder was. A place was recommended that won the Best Clam Chowder in Cape [View Full Entry]

Today, we slept in and relaxed. Then we did the laundry and went shopping. That was the day! In many towns there are war memorials for various wars, but nearly all have a Civil War Monument. Nancy is used to seeing the ones in towns in the South, but she forgot that the North would have just as many remembrances. Back in Vermont, we visited a beautiful Victorian summer home outside Bennington. It only had 35 rooms. The Park-McCoullough estate had 800 acres, including a children's two room playhouse that looked like the big house. It also had a fabulous carriage [View Full Entry]

We left Maine after another yummy Maine blueberry pancake breakfast. Before we got to the Interstate, we saw several large cemeteries. Rich said that the reason they are larger than the ones at home is because people here have been dying for a long time. The town of Kennebunk was started in 1653! Then we passed a used car lot that was selling pickups with snow plows already included. We stopped at a lighthouse called the Nubble Light. There was a family getting ready to scuba dive. We asked what they were going to look for. They said they were just [View Full Entry]

Looms in the mill
Mill building

Last evening, (how could I forget?) we drove into Biddeford to look for the car shop and saw the huge textile mill buildings. There is a church on every other corner! When we were traveling through Nebraska, the history of each town mentioned all the saloons they once had on every corner. Quite different here! Now we know why the young and the restless went West in the first place! There were beautiful old houses that were built by shipbuilders and mill owners. On our way back, we passed a hair salon called, "Curl Up And Dye". :) As we drove [View Full Entry]

We woke up to the sound of rain on the roof! It was a light rain, but in the camper it almost sounds like hail! Rich took the truck into town for a lube and oil change. While he was there, he heard people talking about the 22 ton slab of granite that slid down onto Interstate 89 yesterday near Sharon. That's where we were yesterday, eating our lunch at the rest area! It must have happened shortly after we went by! No one was hurt. Nancy paid bills on line and caught up on paperwork while he was gone. When [View Full Entry]
