Time is nearly here for our 3 month around the world holiday.
This around the world trip will enable us to catch up with all of the students and parents of kids we have hosted over the years as exchange students through the AFS program, as well as seeing the sights and taking a well earned break. This travel log will start slow as I am not that PC literate so forgive me if I stuff it up!!! lol
Emma and I hope you get a kick out of this, and give us some good feed back along the way as well.
Cheers
Emma and Steve

Arrived in Chicago without a hitch, security getting in seemed pretty easy (hmmm). Booked into our motel which which was at the top of the main street and pretty central to the cool stuff. Not much time to spend here but managed to visit the Sears Tower(103 stories), Taste of Chicago Festival and a few other things. Hired a car and drove from the centre of town down the interstate to Indianapollis. Main purpose here was the visit the "Brickyard" or the Indy Car Race track. No racing was on as it was midweek, but we did look around the Museum and did a track tour. The place is huge and infact hosts 3 holes of a golf course in one section in the middle of the track. From here we hitched the wagons and rolled ... read more

Well from Berlin we caught an overnight train to Stockholm in Sweden. We weren't really sure when we were to get off the train to catch the ferry across the stretch of water that seperateds the 2 but we guessed it would work out. Hopped on the train at 11:30pm and straight into a sleeper cab and to bed. Woke up at about 4:30am with the train still rocking and rolling gently along, only to find out when looking out the window that the train wasn't moving!!!. During the night, the train had reached the port of somewhere, driven straight onto the ferry and it was as simple as that - all just too crazy to imagine. We eventually arrived in Stockholm to find accomadation a bit light on due to some convention or something, but ... read more

Hi all!, Well we made it to Belluno in the north of Italy and finally off loaded the didgeridoo to Riccardo. Had a great time there, Tati and Riccardo were not only great hosts but also great tour guides. managed to get stuck in the lift here which was pretty funny, but was eventually rescued by the repair man. Visited Kalebs old school which was a tad embarressing to start with as we were taken to each class and introduced to not only the teachers, but also the students - was fun really. We visited some of the people that were involved in Kalebs stay and had many laughs. Not so funny was the 23 hour journey that got us from Belluno to Athens which was a combination of long train, sea ferry and bus rides. ... read more

Hmm where did we leave you? On the west coast of Ireland I think. We continued our trek south to Cork. Got there latish but went straight to the ferry terminal to see when the next ferry to France was leaving. Bugga! not until Saturday and it was only Tuesday. Spent the night at a brand new motel at Glenvoe with the idea of travelling to Rosslare to catch the ferry from there on Thursday. On ringing the car hire comany we discovered that they had no where for us to leave the hire car there, so we were stuffed again. Not to be out witted, we decided to investigate flying to France. Arriving at the airport in Cork, the next plane to Paris was in about 15 minutes. Left Emma (Ziggy - for zigzag!) to ... read more

Wow it's been a little while since our last blog, trouble is getting enough pics to be down loaded to a disc then finding the time and place to do the blog. Yep you guessed it we are still absolutely flat out!!. While at Bury St Edmunds we ventured to Cambridge for an educational experience :) We had a look around the famous colleges ie Kings, St Johns etc. Finished the afternoon punting along the river Cam (The Backs) with the aid of a Student Motor as we couldn't be stuffed doing it ourselves. All went well till I almost ended up in the drink while holding the punt for Emma and co to alight. Whilst in England we taught the poms their own game of pub cricket. if you are familiar with the rules then ... read more

This blog I'm afraid will be a bit of a mixed bag, as it is a bit reliant on being able to download camera pics. After leaving the Osaka area, we flew to Tokoyo and stayed in the central bussiness area. We visited Tokoyo Tower, Imperial Palace, Toyota display centre, the Giza area (major department store shopping area) and Electric City. Didn't realise there was so much variety in computers, MP3s, Ipods, toasters and toilet seats!!!:) Yes the Japs have auto toilet seats that do almost everything for you, including wiping your bum. The best part of Tokoyo of course was catching up with Maimai and Aki (you remember cute little Maimai, she was our first exchange student) We went out to dinner at Shinigawa the night before we left Japan. Aki is still at uni ... read more

First blog off Australian soil. Journey from Australia to Osaka via Singapore and Bankok. Arrived 6am, and travelled by Bus and Train to our hosts appartment in Itami. Spent our days travelling the rail system visiting Temples, castles, temples, buddhas, temples - yeah ok "lots of temples" Much of Japan is very modern, but the best bits are the older quarters with there little side alleys and shops - sooooo cool. The food has been interesting, as there is such a large variety. Sometimes it is a little hard to distinguish between traditional Japanese and western influences. Saturday night we were treated to dinner at a very nice resteraunt where we had our own room with traditional service but modern food (no not hamburgers!!!) Tamiko and Hidenori are the parents of Maimai who we had as ... read more

Hi there all the new people that have been added to our Travelblog list, and sorry to those that I have been practising on over the last few months!! Well the count down is on I guess as we both finish work Friday 15th April and fly out of Roxby on the morning of the 20th April. First hit and run stop will be Singapore on our way to Japan where we will spend a few days near Osaka and then Tokoyo. From there its off to the UK, Europe, USA and Canada, but more about that as we travel. Joshua and Kaleb have promised to do several things for us while we are away, so I guess this will be a big test for them to. Feed the dogs, birds and fish. Pay the bills ... read more
