Blog from Iquique - Antofagasta- Chile After a two night stopover in Arequipa the boys were ready to ride again, even with David on his washed and polished KLR. We left the hotel and headed out of town, rather later latter than planned, for various reasons. Geraldine rode with me out of Arequipa on the way to Tacna, which is the largest Puruvian City before we enter Chile. The Campbell boys, needed more speed than the two up KLR could reach, so they went on ahead to enjoy the sealed highway...well that was the last we saw of them for a few hours. We assumed thay would be at the border when we arrived, but not a sign of them ? So were they that far ahead of us that they got tired of waiting and ... read more

Rosco's Blog from Arequipa... We left Cusco around 8.45am and headed South to Sicuani, and headed West to Yauri, via unsealed mountain roads that took us in excess of 4,000m. We hped to get some lunch in Yauri, but the few ‘Resturants’ that we came across, Gerardo wouldn’t feed his dog there, so we moved on, stopping high in the next mountain pass to put on a bit more gear and munch a chocolate bar, as snow began to fall. As we dropped in altitude, the temperature tended to rise. There was a lot of road works taking place and a lot of the sections that were so rough last year have been paved. The downhill run to Chivay, which was so rutted last year, has also been paved, consequently we all arrived at Chivay around ... read more

Rosco's Blog La Paz-Cusco We all arrived into La Paz, from Oruru, in a good tight group, we kept it all together until a diversion on the way to the hotel, and at the last very busy intersection, we lost the truck. The moto’pulled into the undercover of the hotel just as a thunderstorm struck the city. What a grand lightning and thunder display followed, with flooded streets and people scurrying everywhere. Murray and Geraldine had the bright idea, once they realized that they were lost, to stay put and wait for the rain to ease, then Murray found a phone and rang us at the hotel and told us where he was. They were only about two blocks from the hotel, so Gerardo jumped in a taxi and went to them and led them back ... read more

Rosco’s Blog from Uyuni Well what a contrast from last year, we even saw a grader on the route into Bolivia, through the South West entry point. We checked out of Argentina and didn’t intend going into Chile, but the officials insisted that we were going to Chile! So we agreed with them, got our exit stamp and set off for the Bolivian Boarder. When we got there and said we came from Argentina, they insisted that we had come from Chile, OK no Problemo, we came from Chile, got our stamp, met up with our guide and food, drink and bedding provider for the next three days and headed off into the Bolivian landscape. With no disrespect to BMW, but the Kawasaki KLR, allowed me to actually enjoy the challenge of the Bolivian sand and ... read more

Yesterday we split the group with Gerardo, Leo and David riding directly to Salta, while the rest of us rode via Cachi, which took us up a very fertile valley and over the Cresta del Obispo mountain pass at 3,800m. I am in a bit of a rush to get this blog up, as today we head onto the dark side of the moon and will be out of contact with the rest of the world for three days, while in Bolivia. A picture is worth a thousand words, so here you will see Ripper hitching a ride on the back of the chase truck....Turns out his genuine BMW battery collapsed internaly and could not supply enough power to run his moto. They have now fitted a new battery here in Salta, so maybe he can ... read more

Here we are in Cafayate, Argentina. We left Chilecito on a fine day and made our way to Andalgala. The problem is that there were a lot of road works, with the urgent need to 'Pave the World', I guess, before the oil runs out ?. If they continue at this rate, before long we will be able to do Harley tours over here, just joking really, as we there are still plenty of adventure roads over here... Leo took a dive while exiting one of the river crossing on the road from Andalgala to Santa Maria, but lucky for him it was a sandy landing, he winded himself and hurt his pride a bit, and broke the left hand mirror, he is currently out shopping for a replacement. Actually he featured high on yesterdays ride, ... read more

Well here we are dirty and dusty from our last few days ride from Chile over the Paso del Negra Pass into Argentina. What a great ride that is. It gave everyone a tast of the altitide, some handled it better than others. We all made it to San Jose de Jackel well before dark this time. I have tried to up load a couple of videos so we will see how that goes. Hopefully we will get one also from Geraldine. Gerardo has sent in a blog in Spanish, those at home best get their little books out, or do as I do and ask my computer to translate it... Hola, esta es la versión en idioma español de esta nueva aventura, ahora en el año 2009, en que nuevamente con mi amigo y compañero ... read more

Here are a couple of blogs from the boys. un abrazo, Rosco Brian’s blog part 1 UP THE CREEK WITHOUT A PADDLE (Trans-script from Brian’s own hand) Yesterday we left Vina del mar at approx 1.30pm. I parted the team(got lossed) • in a town with 4 million people • no map of the city • driving on the right side of the road • no one speaking English • and a 400km journey on my own........... Quite an adventure for a country boy. I made it to our destination with no problems at all, arriving 1 hour before our ... read more

Here we go again, but with very different dynamics. We were able to clear the moto's from customs in one and a half days, working with a contact, Enzo and Martina, that I made when I shipped my moto out in 2004/5. I realy do believe that there are no chance meetings in life, they are all for mutual benifit. Geraldine has been a great help with the contact back home while we have been so busy getting all our stamps, but the light is now green for go. we have a bit of service work to do on the KLR's then we will head North to Tongoy for two nights, we will have to send a message to the hotel to stock up with beer, as Ripper drank a local bar/resturant dry of his favorite ... read more

Broken Bones and we haven't left home yet !!! David ‘Broken Bones’, one of the adventurers, fell off his dirt bike a few weeks ago, while fooling around out in the forest, and broke his shoulder blade, well that was a big bugger, as it was jeopardising his adventure ride with us. After lots of physiotherapy and taking it real easy, like no changing of the babies nappy, having his wife tie his shoe laces etc. When I say “Take care out there”, that’s sort of what I mean. Anyway, he gave me a call yesterday and has been cleared by the hospital to ride with us, so that’s just great news. Also, you won't find a picture of Murray Goss, he will be driving the chase truck, his yellow local transport is a bit of ... read more
