Well this travel blog is quickly coming to a conclusion. Today we send pictures and experiences from yesterday and a jump back to reality. Aftet breakfast yesterday morning and arranging our luggage and cleaning our car for return to the rental agency, we went back to Niagara-on-the-Lake. On the way we stopped for a few views over the Niagara river gorge, then we enjoyed what you will see in pictures. Of course our travels yesterday were tainted by the world terrorist stuff. The drive from Niagara was complicated slightly by missing a main highway turn. Those highway signs failed me!! [View Full Entry]

So, we're back in Canada after an uneventful drive from Geneva, Ohio. The line-up at the Canada Customs was huge and lengthy and slow but when we got to the booth they let us through without any hold up. We took a room at a smaller older motel in downtown Niagara Falls. It is very adequate and price was for $69. Then we wnet for a meal at King Davids, a kosher Jewish restaurant and bakery just across the street. That was an interesting experience again. The tables are self serve after ordering at the counter so we had to claim [View Full Entry]

Our stay at the Geneva OH Howard Johnson Motel was ok but we laughed about this 'wonderful find' late in our day yesterday. The toilet flushed poorly and kept running. The little refrigerator in the room made a knocking sound when it ran that sounded like somebody knocking loudly at the door so we had to unplug it. Anything we moved showed evidence of lack of dusting!! The toilet lid, half under a ledge was just thick with dust when we removed it to fix the running toilet. The bed mattress is obvioulsy older and a bit saggy. But it was [View Full Entry]

Weather has changed to enough cooler that we feel quite at home. Tonight, when wandering after sunset we almost needed a light jacket. We started the day with visits again to the Kirtland Temple for a tour of that building owned and managed by the Reorganized Church or what is now called The Community of Christ Church. It was most interesting, of course, to be conducted through three floors of meeting rooms and see how it was constructed in the 1830's. Of course we have a few interest stories. One occurred as we were walking through the temple gardens next to [View Full Entry]

Tonight we rest in Ohio, near Kirtland. It was a day of driving ..... about 6 hours. Weather was hot and humid again but the car was cool and comfortable. And the camera worked today!! After leaving the batteries out of it and letting it cool off overnight, it worked. My theory is that heat and humidity affect the little switch somehow. Anyway, I've got a few pictures again today. We did visit briefly the Kitland Temple site and also the visitors center. Tomorrow we'll do a little more thorough job. And tonight we drove about 5 miles north to the [View Full Entry]

Bad news is not really serious but my camera is acting up and could not take any pictures today. I'm hoping that giving it a rest overnight will cause something good to happen! The switch from view pictures to camera mode does not seem to work. We did attend church in the ward next to The Washington Temple. It was an enjoyable respite from our week of roving. We did drive back into DC to visit the Arlington Cemetery and John F. Kennedy's grave (a Jacqueline's too). It was hot again. Over 90 F and most anything you want to do [View Full Entry]

Once again we are satisfyingly weary from a day of exploring. Washington DC is a little easier city in which to drive and we did find a place to park on the street. However, to visit many of the touristy places associated with the Mall, it takes a lot of walking. We did get on a trolly and enjoyed the commentary of various drivers as they circulated us us to a few stopping places. The White House security people shooed us away from the street approach after telling us that we needed advance tickets to visit ....... 3 months in advance [View Full Entry]

This morning we are headed to Washington DC. We spent yesterday at Gettysburg and getting to Frederick where we met with friends, Ron and Culleen Tobin. At Gettysburg we took a tour with a personal guide, sharing expenses with a young couple from UK and letting the guide drive our car. He was an excellent guide and very descriptive and keen. The Battlefield Tour covers about 20 or 30 miles I think and took us over the trails and ridges where all the battles were fought. On every knoll or valley there is some monument, large or small in memory of [View Full Entry]

About the bridge paintings

Wow!! We just returned from the Broadway production of “The Drowsy Chaperone”! It was a hugely enjoyable comedy/musical so cleverly scripted and produced. I guess we are looking at the some of the best performers in America so they might have been expected to do such a fine job. Our internet tickets were at one edge of the main floor. After talking to the usher letting him know we were from Canada and wished we had had a better choice of seats for early booking, he bent to whisper if some better seats were not taken right at opening, we could [View Full Entry]

We were pleased to escape the grasp of New York City and get into our vehicle and see something beside buildings!! We left our hotel at about 10:30 AM, hailed a taxi and had him drop us at the PENN Station underground on 34th St. and Broadway in Manhattan. To our dismay, we should have had him drop us at 6th ... a full long block south. We trundled our suitcases and all to that spot and caught the PATH train again and after one transfer wound up back at the Gateway Hilton in Newark. It took awhile to load into [View Full Entry]
