Another piping hot day. Did nothing much in the morning. In the afternoon drove the ladies over to C, Doc riding. Had a quiet afternoon there. Just as we were leaving, up came a large party – Mr & Mrs Hewitt, Miss H and a small boy, Miss Shaw, Mrs H's sister, Miss Charlesy (a friend) and two ladies in another dog cart – some excitement packing them all away. I rode back, the Doc drove. Warm night.... read more

A hot close night. Thunderstorm passed over about 2 in the morning. As hot a day as yesterday. Drove to church in a Brake; I drove there and the Doc back. Received 2 letters from home – they had been lying at the Melbourne Post Office since Dec 29th. A very hot afternoon, spent it in the bedroom reading letters etc. After tea, Allen, Doc and I walked over to C, stopped there about one hour and then returned. Moonlight night but somewhat cloudy. Mr & Miss T spent the evening at C. We walked part of the way back with them, they riding. He was very quiet, being generally very noisy. She was as mad as ever.... read more

Doc and I walked over to C for letters. Employed the morning in catching some birds belonging to Kate O'C that had escaped out of a cage. In the afternoon, Mrs O'C, D O'C and I rode after them to meet them on their return. Got back about 8, left at 7 and walked back to Park Nook. Fine moonlight night. Found that Mrs Lever and Miss Wright had gone. Very hot day, 122° in the sun.... read more

Made up a party and went to the Glen for dinner. Mrs Parker, Mrs Lever and Doc driving. Miss Thurkell and her two nephews (who came over for the day), Mademoiselles Wright, Parker and D’endeu, myself and Charley Lever riding. Had a pleasant day. Helped in the shearing – all came back together. Had music etc., in the evening. About 11, Mr Thurkell came to take his sister back, was as loud and noisy as ever – did not leave till about 12. Went to bed with a slight headache. Fine warm day.... read more

Doc and I walked over to P immediately after breakfast. Started to make something for the Cressy bazaar – a blotting pad on a new style of decoration, ferns and Indian tuk. After dinner, we all intended going over to C but it began to rain heavily till about 5 o'clock when Mrs Lever and a Miss Wright drove up, so we had to put off our visit. Had music in the evening. Went to bed early on account of headache.... read more

Fine but a hot close day. A large party of us went up to the Bluff and had dinner there. Mr & Mrs Tass Parker, Kate O'C, nurse and baby driving. Mrs O'C, Miss O'C, Deasey O'C, Lucy Parker, Miss D’endeu, Miss Thurkell, Frank O'C, Walter Gatensby, Doc and I, riding – had a merry afternoon. Fine day. Rode “Hadgley Boy”, a fast trotting pony over to C to get something done at the Blacksmith's shop for Mr Parker, then came back with it and took it up to the “Glen” where they were shearing. Got there just in time for dinner. The Doc came up in the afternoon. Helped to brand the sheep which was warm dirty work, and to hoist bales onto the floor above. Mrs O'C, Miss Deasey and Frank rode up just before we finished. F stayed to tea here. After tea, Allen, Doc and self walked over to C and found a lot of people there to sit out the old year. Had music till 12 when there was a row, inside and out – shouting, beating trays, ringing bells and dancing till 2 o'clock. The Doc ... read more

Drove over to church in the morning. A sharp shower came on just as we got in. They take the horses out and fasten them to the railings that surround the church yard and leave the carriages on a piece of wasteland by the church. In the afternoon, which was somewhat warmer, E, A, Doc and I walked over to C. Stopped tea and walked back afterwards. Fine night.... read more

Cold morning but it turned out a hot day. In the morning, Mr Parker, Allen, Doc and self took some cattle up the rises to about 3 miles up the hills. Had to walk the horses nearly all the way, the ground being very rough. Had a little hay-making in the afternoon which was a hot one. Had some boxing in the evening – had the gloves on with the Doc. Played a game of chess with Allen afterwards – ended in stalemate about 12 at night. Posted my letters by Dr Lever who went early in the morning.... read more
