We´re off on another round-the-world trip. We´re spending 6 months this time visiting Peru, Buenos Aires, south Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Germany, India, Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. Yeah, the route doesn't make much sense, but hey, those were the countries that we had to see!

We'll be back April '06.

With our month in Thailand being the end of our 6 month journey, it was slated for bummin' around and doin' nothin'. We had originally wanted to end our trip in the South Pacific in the islands of Bora Bora, Moorea etc., but the cost of these islands proved to be prohibitive in the scope of a 6 month trip. We decided we could get more bang for our buck livin' it up in southern Thailand. To open the photo album, double click on the first photo. This was the only part of our trip where we booked our hotels more than a few days in advance. Usually we would book one city in advance (if we booked anything at all). But we wanted our last 4 weeks to be close to perfect. We checked out ... read more

We came to Siem Reap, Cambodia to see Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples. Over a period of 300 years, between 900 and 1200 AD, the Khmer empire produced some of the world's most amazing temples. The temples were declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1992. Since then much needed assistance has been provided to preserve this site. It's no easy feat, while the main temple of Angkor Wat is the most famous, the actual area is spread out over some 40 square miles and contains 36+ main sites and temples! You can get a sense of scale if you check out this: MAP. During our week there, we toured the complex for 3 solid 10 hour days. We started every morning between 6-6:30 AM to beat the heat and the crowds. We loved the ... read more

We mostly rested during our 2 weeks in Laos. We had done non-stop sight seeing and traveling in Viet Nam and needed some down time. We traveled 4 hours North of the capital, Vientiane, to the city of Vang Vieng. It was the first time in months that we stayed in the same guest house for a week straight. Usually we only stay in the same guest house for 3-4 days. While fun, that can get quite taxing and you end up never feeling like you're "home" anywhere. To open the photo album, double click on the first photo. We mostly read, enjoyed the backpacker scene, drank in the amazing view and did grounding things like go the same restaurants everyday. The most active thing that we did while we were there was go mountain biking ... read more

In February we spent 2 weeks in gorgeous Vietnam visiting serene monasteries, scrambling through elaborate palace ruins, getting clothes custom tailored, and sea-kayaking through the stunning lime-stone peaks of Halong Bay. We also toured pivotal sites of the “American War”, trying to understand this tragic episode that weighs so heavily on our country’s memory. We flew into Hanoi which was cold, rainy, polluted and chaotic. In our constant search for warmer weather we flew south to the city of Hue which welcomed us with warm breezes and a laid back culture. To open the photo album, double click on the first photo. There is an old citadel in Hue that we toured by bicycle rickshaw. The city of Hue was the capital of the Southern kingdom by all Nguyen Lords and officially became the capital under ... read more

We LOVED Hong Kong! It’s an ultra-modern, international city. It has moving sidewalks running for blocks, two-story sidewalks with shops on both levels, and sky-scrapers with animated color "screens" covering the entire building! First we have to explain that we don't have all of our Hong Kong pictures with us while making this blog. Our data key failed, and we already shipped the photo CD home. We were lucky enough to arrive in time for the Lunar New Year celebrations. How truly exciting! To open the photo album, double click on the first photo. For such a bustling city, we found Hong Kong to be surprisingly quiet, clean and organized. The relatively unpolluted air was a welcome change for Suruchi’s bronchitis-ed out lungs. The people of HK were very warm and helpful. We strictly used public ... read more

Yes, we're behind on our blog, what can we say?! Mumbai was full of fantastic family times. Reconnecting with everyone was really special. It is always overwhelming to see how much family will go out of their way to take care of us and show us a good time. We ate until we thought we would never eat again, laughed a lot, and loved all the tender loving care that restored our spirits and prepared us to get our there and travel some more. The #1 hotspot for New Years Eve in India is definitely Goa. Everyone and EVERYONE from taxi drivers to Baliwood stars is there. Amazingly, a whole group of our San Francisco friends joined us to celebrate New Years together! Our first meeting was on an overnight train from Southern India. You can imagine how strange and wonderful it was to see such familiar faces so far away from home in an Indian train compartment. From the train we proceeded to bask on the beaches all day and bounce around the clubs all night. It was all great excetp for the 80% of the time that we spent stuck in terrible traffic and fighting enormous crowds. Let's just say New Years in Goa has become too popular for its own good. After a few days of rest in Mumbai, we joined our good friend Neha for a whirlwind 10-day tour of the gorgeous south Indian state of Kerala. Kerala has earned the reputation as "God's Own Country" due to it's gorgeous beaches, endless swaying palm trees, vibrant sunshine, and the charming maze of lakes, rivers and waterways that criss cross the countryside. We nourished mind, body and soul touring tea and spice plantations and enjoying a variety of elaborate Ayurvedic treatments and massages. To open the photo album, double click on the first photo. We also experienced Christmas Indian style. The Apostle Thomas visited India during his lifetime and as a result Kerala is 20% Christian. It was really interesting to see the similarities and differences in how Christmas was celebrated. ... read more

Africa was WONDERFUL! We enjoyed the spectacular scenery in Cape Town; took a 17 day camping tour through Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Namibia; safaried by truck, boat, canoe and on foot; and saw tons of wild animals including: giraffe with babies, elephant drinking with their trunks, zebra, buffalo, wildebeest, black rhino, white rhino, hippo, jackal, hyena, mongoose, scorpions, cheetah and a dozen different types of gazelle. We saw amazing sights, made great friends on the tour and have promised ourselves that we will have to go back. To open the photo album, double click on the first photo.
