China was in my sights. our 1st stop over was Lhasa and even though we where getting straight back on the same plane we where searched throoly. They even checked every page of a time magazine i had i8n my bag. I guess they where looking to see if the dahli lama popped up. The baron terrane was like a lunar landscape from the plane, what a shame i couldnt get here. Our 2nd stop over was in Chengdu very briefly and as we entered the next plane by some stroke of luck we had been upgraded to 1st class. This ment that i slept for a large part of that flight. We arrived in Shanghai at night and u could almost smell the underlying communism on the air, or was that just the smell of ... read more

Nepal. I was finally here but what a state i was in. I had been ready to leave India for a while and Nepal felt like the right place to be. Suprised by the lack of mountains on the start of my journey from the boarder to Kathmandu, i sat back on the crampt local bus and chatted to some indians. The foot hills started to appear in the distance as we stopped to eat and as we departed the bus i could see ppl sitting on the roof this was an oppitunity not to be missed. I climbed up onto the roof and wedged myself in between some bags as the bus pulled out of the stop. The foot hills inveloped me with there beutiful greens and thounderous roar of the river we followed whinding ... read more

I woke up in Agra to find the bus had stopped i looked into the isle and i was the only person left on board. I quickly jumped off the bus to find my ruck sack standing alone at the back of the bus. Were they trying to lose my baggage for me! After getting to the hotel i went to the roof top resturant. u can c the taj from here. What a building e3ven from a distance. After i had eaten i took a long walk around Agra. This city is a mess, power cables run everywhere like giant tangled cob webs. Rubbish is piled high in the streets, i9n 1 place a man and a pig r shuffling through it searching for food and in another it is ablaze sending noxious gases in ... read more

Dehli, well what can u say but pants. Overpriced every1 is trying to make a fast buk out of u and the polution is the worest i have seen. Only good thing was being able to watch some motorcycle racing at a sports bar. So off to jiapur. There r a lot of rip off merchants here all involved in gems and its serious according to the locals. The Pushker camel fare is only a few days away so a few sights ( u can see why it is called the pink city) and some cobra stroaking with the add of a charmer and we r on our way. 1 thing i noticed traveling around idia was indians spitting red stuff all over the streets. I hadnt realised until reading shanteram that is what u do ... read more

What a stunning city and we found an amazing place guest house that overlooked most of the city. Think we deserved it after the last few days of traveling. Udaipur has real character surrounded by mountains with a palaces scattered on top of some of them so the raj can down on all he rule over. The whinnding streets r dressed with tinsel and fairy lights, fire works exploid everywhere at random making it sound like ur in the middle of a war zone and all for dewali. Its a bit like xmas and bonfire night mixed in equal parts. Apparently the place to be is the town hall and even tho we had been warned of drunk indians who cant handle there booze and where looking for a fight we grabbed the nearest rikshaw and ... read more

We spent 12 hours no a night bus back to panaji the capital of goa. Rested and enjoyed some seafood whcih will probably be the last time for a few months. The bus to ahmedabad left the next morning at 9am and we sat down brasing ourselves for the 36 hour ride. 13 hours in and we where pulled off the bus by the guy who seemed to be in charge " U stop here in pune". "WHAT!!! WHERE THE HELL IS PUNE." We looked at our ticket fearing the worst did we get on a bus and head south by acciden, our ticket said pune even though we asked for ahmedbad! We soon realised that was not the case and pune is parellel with bombay. So we spent an expensive night in pune and cught ... read more

The train to goa was far better than expected but it feels like u r in a capsule cut off from the rest of the world probably because i had no winsow for the whole journey. met a guy on the train who was staying in goa so the 3 of us decided to have a bit of a piss up when we got there. After this we ventured to the local chemistbecause of the all the stories u hear about what u can buy over the counter in india. after breaking the intial barriar of how to buy drugs from a chemiste he started to real off all the stuff he sold ketamin, crystal meth speed and a few i had never heard of. No wounder the rave scene flocked here in the early 90s. ... read more

AFter getting back to baga we booked our tickets to hampi, all the trains seem to be booked so we had to do overnight coach return and then we had to book a 36 hour coach ride once we got back to goa to go to rajasthaN. The coach ride seemed to fly by with the help of a couple of valium and the dreams where rather entertaining. i awoke refreased in hampi with the giant temple towering over us and 100s of smaller temples dotted aroungd the boulder filled landscape. this is mor like what i expected of india wise men entertaining children with tricks and then gettting as much money out of the westerners as possible. leppers on the street corners and very crude homes that look very unlike the portuges and raj influenced ... read more

Blimey mumbai is crazy. Landed while sleeping because i had made good use of the free bar on the BA flight so i didnt see anything on the way in. So when we got out of the airport by i was shocked to say the least not in a bad way but because the sights, sounds and smells just create sensory overload. Both of us where quiet all the way to the hotel. The hotel was basic but that i the last thng u r thinking about here. we ventured outside. i thought London was busy in rush hour but is nothing compared to the 12 hour days of mumbai. I can see now why ppl said it isnt a great place to start. but we endured it for 3 days and as time went on ... read more
