Rob Keller wrote...The joy of this motorcycle trip was not in putting it together, but in watching the faces of those bikers who went on this trip. Whether it was conquering a certain fear, fulfilling a dream, being part of a team, capturing Kodak moments, creating memories for your daughter, sharing your faith, getting away from the job, or just not having to plan anything but ride...all had their highlights. I've asked them to put their thoughts into words and let us know what they were thinking. I think you will enjoy them. Guys, it was a pleasure to be the "road captain" on this ride. Start speading the news that next year the Duluth and North Shore of Lake Superior beckons. Jeff Roper wrote... "It never ceases to amaze me the insights received from one ... read more

DAY THREE Today we all woke up and what a pleasant surprise to see the sun and blue sky. We knew it was going to be an awesome day of riding to the Big Horn Mountains and then to Spearfish Canyon in the Black Hills of South Dakota. This morning we had a devotion about light and darkness...we do not have to do anything for the darkness to be there - it simply exists and it takes no energy or effort for it to be dark. But it does take energy and effort for there to be light and light pushes out the darkness. But it has to be an ongoing effort. The minute the light goes out, darkness encroaches. In our homes we can have light at the flip of a switch. You can do ... read more

Day Two Now this is what I call touring...an action packed day with rain, scenery, high altitudes, great company, running into old friends, snow, drizzle and just down right fun. We left Thursday, June 18 from Billings around 8:30 am after having a time of sharing and devotions for the day. What a great bunch of riders who all have the same passion for motorcycle riding. The day started out overcast and on the way to Red Lodge we ran into rain showers, however, we made the decisiont before leaving to put on our rain gear. It was a wise decision and it kept us dry. Met up with Jon and Taylor at Red Lodge. They had a great night camping our in a cabin...it kept them dry. We spent about one hour in Red Lodge ... read more

DAY ONE Today was day one for a group of Evangel Assembly of God motorcycle riders from Bismarck, ND and what a day it was. However, before I go into detail let me tell you about the group. Some may have called this the "Wild Hogs" adventure of some older than average motorcycel riders trying to take back their youth! Well yeah because one does not get younger and needs to ride whenever you can! Especially if you live in North Dakota and the riding season is short. Coming along on the first Annual EAG ride were: Roger and Edie Will, Bruce and Sharon Walth, Jim and Peggy Harms, Jon Patch and his daughter Taylor, Forrest Ecklund, Jeff Roper and Rob Keller (me). Now the average age may be in the 50s however, Taylor Patch (an ... read more

May 9-16, 2009 I had the opportunity to travel to the West African nation of Ghana. It was my third time to this great country. On previous trips I assisted the Ghanian Armed Forces in Public Relations and "working with the media." I was the ND National Guard Public Information Officer then. Ghana is our partner nation for the ND National Guard. It's called the State Partnership Program and almost every National Guard state has a partner nation. This time I went as the Director of Service Member and Family Support for the ND National Guard. Our team of NDNG State Youth Coordinator Tonya Sigl and one of our family executive council members, Connie Sprynczynatyk made the trip to give a week long workshop on how to set up Family Readiness Groups (FRG). The Ghanaian military ... read more

Hey travel blog readers... Greetings from Bismarck, ND where we are finally starting to have summer. The motorcycles are out in number. Someone asked me if we are having a rally in the area...I said, "No, it's just summer!" It's been almost one year ago that I left on my Alaskan Adventure and a lot has happened since then. I will try and catch everyone up so that I can get everyone current on my travels and where I am headed this summer. The Alaskan trip was the ride of a "lifetime" however; it opened up new areas of riding style for me. If you recall, I rode the Alaskan Highway on my 2005 Goldwing. It was a great bike but alas, I watched all the enduro bikes passing me and told myself, "I have to ... read more

Day 23 (July 20, 2008) Sunday Good morning, I have been hesitating to make an entry on my last day as I guess I am in denial that my adventure is over. I started out early from Lewiston, MT (stayed at the famous Yogo Inn which is named after the famous Yogo Sapphire mined exclusively in Central Montana and the only American gem found in the crown jewels of England) and covered the 450 miles home in record time with 75+ mph on Montana roads. The closer I got to Bismarck the more bugs my windshield picked up. Amazing. Now that my Alaska adventure is over, I have lots of memories, photos and video to share with my family and friends. Why did I do the Alaska ride...it has been a goal of mine for quite ... read more

Hi everyone, Just when you think you have seen all there is to see in scenery and wild motorcycle riding, along comes Glacier National Park! It was not disappointing to say the least. As my title suggests, it was breath-taking, spectacular, inspiring, nerve-wracking, and at times I was questioning my reason for taking the Glacier National Park "Going To The Sun" road. I will get to that in a minute, but first the preliminaries. I spent the night outside of Spokane, Washington and decided to get an early start on the ride to Glacier. First stop was Sandpoint, Idaho. Nestled at the base of the Selkirk Mountains in North Idaho's Panhandle region, Sandpoint can be found 60 miles south of the Canadian border and 75 miles northeast of Spokane. The 6,000 residents enjoy the uncompromising natural ... read more

Day 21 (July 18, 2008) Good morning, After saying goodbye to all my biker friends that had made the ferry crossing from Haines to Bellingham, I got on I-5 and headed for Highway 2, which would take me across the upper part of Washington, Idaho and Montana. I have never driven this route before and was looking forward to the journey home. I know that Route 66 is a well traveled road but Hwy 2 also takes you across a wide variety of landscapes and geographical areas. I can say that I am glad to be back in the lower 48 and know that the roads are in much better shape. And it seems my Wing knows that it is headed home and knows exactly where to go and what speed to travel at! Things have ... read more

Hello again everyone, Many thought that I went missing on my sea voyage from Haines, AK to Bellingham, WA. Unfortunately, WiFi was not available on the boats so had to wait until I reached the lower 48. I know some of you have cruised the Inside Passage and enjoyed it...if you have not, I would encourage you to consider taking a cruise or a ferry north to Alaska. On Monday, July 14, we boarded the Marine Vessel (MV Kennicott) at Haines, AK. This was my first experience putting my Gold Wing on the deck of a ship. I had heard many stories from other riders so needless to say, I was nervous. It went great, but you had to be extra careful on the deck as it was steel and with deposits of oil from other ... read more
