Knob Tires
I will be interested to know more about the ride quality for the trip using the more aggressive tread of the knobby tires versus something more suited to road travel.

Adventure Riding and Knobby Tires
Rick, Once adventure riding gets in your blood it's hard to give up and besides, it's a lot of fun to see a dirt or gravel road and wonder "where does that road go?" The knobby tires do take a bit to get used to but it's more of a confidence level you need to attain with the tires. I am running radial knobbies from Michelin and the reviews all say that you can take the twisty and turns with the same confidence a regular motorcycle tire can give you...it just takes getting used to the feeling the tire is slipping! Wish you were heading north with us.

Adventure Riding
Once again you tempt me with your bike description. I am still riding the Vaquero and still love it, mostly because it is comfortable for Mary to ride along with me, and it looks so bad to the bone. If I was riding solo most of the time I would likely give the adventure bikes a try. I'm very envious of your endeavors and wish I was along for the trip. Good luck and safe travels Rob.

Go Go Go
I rode to the Circle on my Harley from MN two years ago. Have the pic hanging in my office. I re-live the trip each day. Have a ball----rain or shine.

Going to the Sun
We had trouble on a family vacation on the Going to the Sun Road. Our car lost power to where it could barely make it up the mountain. Turned out our carbureter was set for near sea level, and should have been adjusted for the 6,646' altitude at Logan Pass, the high point of the road. This was some years ago. I don't know if modern motorcycle carbureters need altitude adjustments, but this is something we learned the hard way.

Electronic Ignition Solves the Problem
Hi Ann, Yeah the modern motorcycles are electronic and adjust on the fly. Should not be a problem but thanks anyway.

Guard shacks
There are two guard shacks that will prevent you from getting to the Arctic Ocean that are monitored by private security firms just north of Deadhorse, They would not let Google Earth past the guard shacks. All the roads there are owned by the oil companies and are administered as private property. I doubt you will get past. The only private vehicles I ever saw in 14 years in the oilfield there were owned by local residents. You can however book a bus tour from Deadhorse. I have heard a lot of stories from disappointed people who could not make that last few miles.
11th June 2017

Arctic Ocean Shuttle
Done the research. The shuttles are available daily from Deadhorse Camp. It is a restricted access area however, the security-guard operated shuttle takes tourists through the oil fields to the coast of the Arctic Ocean. Cost is $69 per person and must provide passport information.
