Arrived in Cape Town yesterday. Sun was shining and table mountain looking resplendant. So the Africa leg of our journey is nearly over. I am not sure we would have seen half as much if we hadn't done the overland truck route. Camping out in the bush miles from anywhere is quite an experience. There are too many highlights to do them justice. From camping under Spitzkoppe in Namibia to watching lions in the Serengetti. I just hope the 2000 photos do them justice. Get ready for the slideshow We were supposed to go up table mountain this morning, but it looks as though we need to wait for the clouds to shift. Hopefully they will move in the next couple of days or we will just have to come back. The Facial hair finally went ... read more

slighlty disjointed with the photos so apologies for that. We have just got back from a few days on the Okavango Delta after coming here from Vic Falls. Zimbabwe has got to be my favourite place so far with Bird park antelope park and the falls. Truly awesome. I think the highlight has to be seeing the full grown lions feeding and then hunting with the 2 year olds later in the night. Barely time to catch breath after 2 days floating round the swamps on the Mokoro canoes. Hippos are a little less huggable when they are at eye height 30m away. Off to do another bush camp tomorrow as we head for the Namibian border and then we head to Etosha national park to see more game. Then on to the Atlantic. Struggling a ... read more

You are welcome The phrase we hear most on this trip. A lot of the time when the locals are trying to sell us something. After travelling down through Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Malawi and parts of Zimbabwe we have reached Antelope park. This morning we walked with Lion cubs and this afternoon we are watching them feed. We then go on a night stalk with the lions and tomorrow a lunar safari on elephants. We are camped down by an oxbow lake in a campsite with hot running water. A bit of a revalation on this trip. The temperature outside is about 30 degrees and the beer is cold. Complete bliss. Just been chatting with the Zimbabwe cricket coach who is an interesting bloke. No sign of Bob mugabe or his henchman though. In a few ... read more

Hi folks. Just a quick update from the stunning island of Zanzibar. Clear blue seas and sunshine. Possibly my favourite beaches ever. Anyway, we have been travelling down from nairobi overland. Can't quite believe how many different kinds of scenery there have been. First we travelled down to arusha in Tanznia. By the sounds of it, a good time to get out of Kenya following the troubles with Somalia. We went on safari to the Ngoro Goro crater; a caldera with its own ecosystem. Then we went to the serengetti and saw the big five in one day. Inlcuding lions in trees and leapard cubs. Unfortunatley wrong time for the wilderbeast migration. Can't really complain. We then travelled down through dar es salaam to the ferry and then accross to Zanzibar. For anyone thinking about it, ... read more

Day 1- Arrived in Nairobi last night. Finally got food about midnight and then settled into the Stanley Hotel. This is our night of luxury before heading out into the bush! Point to note- The Stanley is the location of the original Thorn Tree Cafe ( see lonely planet). Hotel is in the chaotic centre of the city, the number of people that can be crammed onto a minibus is incredible. People are friendly, and there are 15 security guards per hotel guest. Lonely planet "dangers" section in Nairobi is 4 times longer than the "sites to see" section which tells us something and we wont be heading too far. Today will primarily be sat by the pool / sauna. And maybe a tusker beer or 5. Off to sit by the pool and Katie says ... read more

Ok 2 weeks till I go. Blog will be here. Travelex had a problem with Kenyan shillings. For some reason an airport with no connections to Kenya doesn't keep them in stock. Who would have thought it. Having dilemas at the moment with my choice of a 1 season sleeping bag. Relying on my puppy fat to keep me warm until i buy a Masai blanket in Nairobi. Countdown properly on! 136147 seconds till we fly. GOOD TIMES... read more
