Rebekah - Rebekah Millichip

Rebekah Millichip A Media and Cultural Studies student at the University of Worcester, aiming for a career in the Television industry. I love travel and exploring culture and diversity in other countries, as well as being passionate about my own. Not the beach bum type- I get bored very easily and with the weather of (usually) hotter climates find myself at my happiest. I would one day love to combine my interests of travel with my career.

Paradise!

Asia » Thailand » East » Ko Samet
Today we left the appartments early at twenty to seven to catch a motorbike taxi from the end of our road to Ko San Road (or backpackers paradise as its known!) To be honest I was too tired to worry about my drivers erratic and careless driving, I was surprised that I even held on considering I was still half asleep! Once we arrived in Ko San, we boarded a coach and took a trip to a sea port on the south coast. After a few hours driving and reading a few texts from home (I think my Mum was worried [View Full Entry]

Tiger Temple

Asia » Thailand » Central » Erawan National Park
Today we left early again to visit Tiger temple and the Elephant sanctuary. I was feeling quite reserved about the former after reading several of Sadie's stories beforehand about the Tiger's freely roaming a temple without any leashes, leaving anyone a victim of attack. God Help me!! To my relief it was all hype and the Tiger's are surrounded by Buddhist monks and guides wearing bright yellow, just so you don't get confused. As I eagerly awaited for my turn to go and pose with the beautiful felines it was then when we noticed the tigers were drugged, and the one's [View Full Entry]

My ride at Kanchanaburi
Where ???????

After trekking the hills of the Erawan National park waterfalls, we came back to the place where we were staying in Kanchanaburi. We decided not to stay in a boat house, instead staying in a river side bungalow. As you can tell from the pictues it wasn't the presstiest of places to sleep in, and it was crawling with ghecko's, but I didn't mind much as Kanchanaburi was so much cooler and breezier than Bangkok. Before the bus brought us back to our place, we went to visit the Death Railway bridge over the Kwai and the markets next to it. [View Full Entry]

Maeng's place for pool

 Asia » Thailand » Central » Bangkok
We spent this morning shopping and I absolutely loved it! Okay I think I have a problem! Buying six fake designer bags is a bit drastic but when they are so cheap its hard not to. Plus I did enjoy buying presents for my family and friends. We visited the mbk mall. Oh my God that place is unbelievable!!! It has at least 7 or 8 floors as well as going underground with department stores and markets and stands, it was ace!! But anyway, enough on that subject! Later in the afternoon we met up with Sadie's friends and played some [View Full Entry]

The Grand Palace

 Asia » Thailand » Central » Bangkok
Today (The first proper day of my visit to Thailand) we look a trip to the Grand Palace, home of the Emerald Buddha, here I saw the magnificent architecture of beautifully decorated Temples, this is a place where my photos unfortunately do not give it justice. We started off very traditionally by taking a Tuk-Tuk, and in order to respect their culture I had to hire a mans shirt to cover my shoulders whilst walking around the Palace. The shirt actually came in very useful, so I decided to keep it! Some, not all, of the Temples were painted in Gold. [View Full Entry]

Thailand Jan 2007

 Asia » Thailand » Central » Bangkok
Today I arrived at Don Muang International Airport. My first impressions as we descented into Bangkok for landing; 'I've really entered the tropics now!' The air looked dark and musty and the rice fields were heavy with water. As pre-warned by friends who had previously visited Thailand, I anticipated the step-off-the-plane hot air rush!! Although immediately entering an air-conditioned environment (and also for the remaining part of my vacation) I would then soon be used to the goosebumps and shivering in shopping centres and newly established public transport. It wasn't too bad!! Met by m [View Full Entry]

My first sight of Bangkok
Buddhist Temples in city Life
My first sight of Bangkok

Okay, even though I would not normally do this, today I had a sun bed bum (an equivalent to a beach bum except on a sun bed around the Hotel pool). I must admit it was lovely and especially after riding the camels the previous day, it was nice to relax. Nothing exciting to write about today then, apart from eating, drinking, reading a book and swimming occasionally. And I'm afraid all my pictures of today were taken from my personal view from the sun bed! [View Full Entry]

Camel trekking the dunes

Today we took a camel ride over the sand dunes at Maspalomas, the weather was fantastic! Even though I had never rode a camel before it was actually quite fun! As we approached the retreat (it literally was like an oasis in the middle of the dunes), the camels were lined up one by one awaiting the general custom of the tourists. I felt quite sorry for the poor animals lying in the heat all day and then having to carry tourists around the sandy hills. Stepping onto the chair placed strategically on the camel's back was one thing - staying [View Full Entry]

I was being eaten alive

Today I arrived at a quaint appartment in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands!! We (my Mum, friend and her Mum) got here late at night so all we could see were the balcony lights of appartments above. Our appartment is built into a great hill and because appartments floors are staggered it means we have a huge sea view. There is a really old outdoor lift to take you to your floor, a little like a ski lift, except 10 times more deadly, and it picks up speed as it is travelling downhill so you are wondering "This [View Full Entry]
