Hi

I'm a kids nurse who lives on the edge of the outback in Broken Hill. Nearly every weekend during Winter (too hot in summer) I gather together a group of people and head out into the outback.

At last, we are at the Louth Races. For those of you who are saying, “where the hell is that?” It’s a little place on the Darling River between Bourke and Wilcannia. You might still be saying, “where”? Suffice it to say it’s in Western NSW about 400km East-North-East from Broken Hill. 200km of bitumen then 200km of dirt. As with a lot of town’s in Australia it grew up around a pub. It was originally a watering hole for the thirsty crews of the paddle steamers and the town grew up around it. Trip to the Clare and Barossa Valleys Hi everyone. Last weekend Dave (Physio), Jill (Physio) and Sharon (Physio) and myself spent the weekend in the Clare and Barossa Valleys which also included a little trip to Adelaide. Stopped at Yunta for dinner which took forever and as a result we arrived at the Adelaide Airport to collect Sharon at about 2315. It was great to see her happy smiling face. We then turned around and headed back up to the Clare Valley. We were booked into Aaby’s, which is a 4 bedroom B&B on the edge of ... read more

Milparinka Gymkhana Hi guys Thought I might start a bit of a travel blog. To let you all know what I’ve been upto. This past weekend’s trip was to the Milparinka Gymkhana. I can already here you saying,”where is Milparinka” and “what is a Gymkhana?” Milparinka is located about 50km south of Tibooburra or about 300km North of Broken Hill in the very North West corner of NSW. A gymkhana is a bit like a rodeo but without the bucking events. Lots of outback horses, cowboys and cowgirls competing in all manner of events, like melon cutting where the riders gallop along and try to cut 3 melons hanging of posts with a machete like knife. Other events include barrel racing where the horses and riders race around some barrels. There was also some good old ... read more
