November 30th 2007

Hey All, So, at the hostel we are staying at we have a theme party at least every two weeks, sometimes back-to-back weeks. Right when we got here there was a toga party (but I had to work the next morning shift, so we called it an early night without too many good pics or stories), and last Friday was the 80's party. I have to admit, the cause of the most contention in our relationship is that I find the 80's ridiculous and Emily thinks it was the best decade in the history of mankind, so I was a little nervous about what would happen when I had a few drinks in me. We raided the "fancy dress room" in the hostel and scrapped together two costumes. I went as Patrick Swayze's character from Dirty ... read more

How the hell is everybody??? This is a special installment recounting the events of one night: the Glider record. We should first explain that the hostel we are working at has two other hostels, in Peru, one in Lima and the other in Cusco. There is a lot of rivalry between them all, especially Cusco and here in La Paz. Nearly all of the staff are either Irish or English, so naturally the rivalry presents itself in the form of drinking competitions. One other thing we should throw out there is that a Glider here is a shot, like a B-52, with vodka, kahlua and bailey's...its kind of like the hostel's official drink, we always do 4 or 5 at the end of every night shift, and several during. Well, apparently there had been an old ... read more

Hi everyone, Im in the middle of a shift right now, but we´re pretty slow so i thought I´d put up a few pictures from our trip to Lake Titicaca. We went up for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary as most of you know. We had to take a shady little bus for about 3 hours, then cross on a ferry, then wait in town for about 40 minutes until our bus came across too. Then it was about another 45 minutes to the town of Copacabana. We stayed at a small hostel for $8 a night. On sunday, we took a boat the Isla del Sol (where the incan civilization is legended to have originated.) We walked through the ruins on the north side of the island, then hiked along the ridge to the ... read more

Here's the story in Bolivia. We arrived at 2am in Santa Cruz de la Sierra. With a hostel reservation in hand, we caught a taxi. The adventure began when our driver admitted to having no clue where the hostel was, and we spent close to 40 minutes driving around in circles. Finally, we pulled up to a shady little hole in the wall place....no wonder we missed it. We paid the cabby and rang the bell. A few minutes later, the doorman stumbles down the stairs and explains either that there weren't any rooms or that the hostel doesnt exist anymore (its hard to decifer anything from a drunken bolivian man). So after exchanging a few harsh words with him for his lack of help, we set out walking the streets, packs and all, looking for ... read more

Hello All, Sorry its taken so long to get this blog up and running, but it should be a little more constant from now on. This first blog will just be a basic summerization of our time in Brazil. I wont go into too much detail since: a) there are 6 weeks to cover and b) we sent a few emails already. But here's for those of you who arent up to date! So as most of you know, we flew into Sao Paulo where we had a bit of a rocky start. I´ll leave that to gregor to expound on that. There, we couchsurfed for about a week with two wonderful guys who showed us the city and SP´s fabulous night life! I wasnt a huge fan of the city itself. As you can see ... read more
