The Train to Cuamba
You were in the 1st class car. The 2nd class car is like normal chapa transportation here. 3rd class is like another planet - if you really want to have an experience that no other white person has ever had before - go on 3rd class. See how long you can last.

We're famous!
Thanks once again for coming -- we really enjoyed your visit. And someone next to me here wants me to say that he's not fat, just pleasantly round. And of course, orange.

Malaria!
Tough luck on the malaria, there. That's one tropical disease we could all do without. Did the doctor put you on chloroquine? If so, it seems you'll have to keep taking that for 4 weeks after you leave any malarial area. Seems the parasites can survive for quite a while after infection and treatment, although the worst should be over in two days... More info at http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/malaria-medications (I know! Trusting medical info on the web...)

Keep the dream alive!
Ralph! Good to see you are keeping the dream alive and doing what you enjoy so much. It's my first day back at work, and after scanning your blog, I am already very envious!! Enjoy your trip and be safe! You should try get to Lebanon while you are in the area! Lebanon was the highlight of my trip, and an absolutely awesome place!! If you are there in Dec/Jan/Feb, you can go skiing - Ski the middle east!! (and no, they do not have indoor ski resorts like Dubai). Anyway, enjoy!!!! -Dan.

False Information
During the years of Apartheid, the white population percentage was far higher at around 25%. In the last 2 decades the black population has increased to to over breeding. BTW Many did take revenge and the victims were usually completely innocent. Burt in car tyres.

I have just been thinking of my next voyage taking part in Santa Marta. Your trip sounds like it was a blast and the hike to the hidden city would of been sick! Great Views do doubt. I hope to check out Mr Coca's little factory out too. He sounds content. Any tips you can share that you found out would help on your next trip to Colombia in general would be great. ROCK ON
