Shalom Y'all!!! I am finally home I am really tired and my body is confused. Flight back was miserable, never take Continental!! Smallest, most uncomfortable seats and worst airline food of any airline I've flown. Southwest is still the best, too bad they don't fly overseas. I did not sleep more than 5 min at a time for the whole flight, flight was delayed at Newark, we sat on the tarmack for 1 1/2 hr before the 6 hr flight home, it was awful. Jim picked me up, when I saw him I threw my arms around his neck and didn't [View Full Entry]

Sorry I haven't updated this in such a long time but, as you might imagine, I've been very busy. Susan has taken a side trip alone to Eliat to go snorkeling in the Red Sea, I decided not to go due to my toe having a nasty blister now, so will stay back and take care of it. Rather than backtrack to what we've done in the past week I will tell you what Bridgette and I did today...rather, I will let her tell you since she writes so well: The City of David National Park has a large tent facility [View Full Entry]

We just got back from our Dead Sea spa adventure. Patty picked us up at 7 am this morning, we went to Masada first, it was really amazing, what a sad and tragic story. Rode the tram up of course, it was 80 degrees by 9 am when we got there. And what a view. A very good museum, very airconditioned inside which was really nice as by the time we were through it was almost a hundred! From there we went to the Dead Sea, actually Ein Gedi spa, I opted for the 1/2 hr. massage, which was my first [View Full Entry]

We had fun shopping today, the shoulk is full of people getting everything they need for Shabbos. We bought all sorts of fruits and vegetables, halvah, sweets and nuts. I'm having a good time, I'm getting used to all the walking and the heat. Getting out of the cab yesterday I caught my big toenail on something and nearly tore it off, it was bleeding pretty good, and I cleaned it up and bandaged it when I returned tom the apt. We have a big week planned, lots to do and see here in Jerusalem. Tomorrow we are inviting a [View Full Entry]

Safed

Middle East » Israel » North District » Safed
We are in the ancient city of Safed in the mountains above Galilee. At night we can see the twinkling lights on the shore on the other side near Tiberius. We stayed in the local hostel high up on a hill the first night, our hosts Ricky and Dovi we're so sweet and offered us beer, nuts, cold watermelon and conversation when we returned in the evening after a jaunt around the old city. It's much cooler here and very breeezy..at night it's balmy and we sleep really well. Today we explored the old city and the artist quarter. So many [View Full Entry]

We were hot and grumpy when we arrived in Poryia. I took a dip in the pool and it was wonderful. It was very windy which was just about the most refreshing feeling after the heat of downtown Tiberius. Tiberius was very busy, we had a light meal of israeli salad, babaganush, kabobs, french fries and hummus. We met up once again with our new friends Frank and Maryann from Victor BC Canada who were staying here at Birdsong as well. They had already been to the sites here, one being to the Galilee boat exhibit and the hill of [View Full Entry]

Last night we had a nice Shabbat meal of fish and vegetables bought at the local market. The fish was a red trout from Gallilee and a sea breem from Eliat, near Egypt, both wild caught. Susan went for a walk and found she could easily walk to the Jaffa gate in only 15 minutes from the apt., she went by herself, I stayed home and took a nap before starting dinner. Our visit to the Shrine of the Book was interesting. They have an ancient portion of the book of Isaiah on display as well as artifacts dating back to [View Full Entry]

Shalom from Jerusalem!! We had a long day yesterday. After light breakfast we set out to the old city. It took us a while since we were not familiar with the bus routes and all but made it to the Jaffa Gate entrance eventually. It was around noon and I wanted to be able to call home and let you know to log on the www.thekotel.org so you could see and hear us, but we have yet to figure out how to call out with our cel phones. Each time we try we get some recorded message in Hebrew that we cannot [View Full Entry]
