I am so jealous I missed out on seeing the comet... didnt see any bit of it here in teh norhern hemisphere :-( The best sighting in decades and i'm in the wrong place! grr..

The trip was with Manu Ecological Adventures (do a web search for their website), I thought they where excellent, good food, and they kept us busy all the time (off the boat). I booked the trip once in Peru, but it was about 5 days before the trip since I had my Inca trail in between booking and the start of the Manu trip. Their office is in Cuzco, and the best time to go is the dry season which happens in the middle of the year.

I've added the photo of the departure point from the south ridge track, its about 30 or 40 minutes walk from the car park. Its fairly well worn at the start of the south-east ridge track, but there are sections higher up in the rockier spots where it was hard to tell if I was on the trail. Good luck, the views on the way up and from the summit are awesome.

I recently attempted to climb Mt Barney via the south east ridge with some mates. We were stopped part way due to injury but even if we had continued I'm not 100% sure we were going the right way! Any chance you have a photo of the departure from the south ridge track? You commented that you saw a tree engraved SE ... where abouts was this tree? These are a great set of photos, and those of the sea of clouds are the type that inspired me to climb it in the first place (It looks like a great view!)

Thanks Li, I don't actually like them that much since the stars are abit too hard to see. I think there was too much light froom the full moon.

4kg or 5kg but I think I've already put most of it back on! They where a cool couple of dogs, we played with them when we first bumped into them and I think thats why they started following us.

One of my collegues said she'd been to that same place just last year and it brought back all the good memories... she's also quite impressed with your photography skills. - me
