070728 Grand Teton National Park I really can’t explain the impact that the Grand Tetons had on me. From afar they looked small, but as I drove closer mile after mile the slowly grew to mammoth proportions. After 40 miles they stood before me…or rather, I stood before them in awe. Cloud cover obscured some parts of the range, which only stood to highlight other parts. Glaciers were scattered over the behemoth peaks and I pulled off the road several times to take pictures in the turnouts and learn things…such as the fact that the Teton Valley floor is sinking at a faster rate than the mountains are rising, four times faster. After driving for miles at the base of the mountains I stopped at the Jenny Lake recreation area to get a hike in. I ... read more

070726 Yellowstone I left the Lazy L&B after eating some tasty huevos rancheros. After saying goodbye to everyone I headed to Yellowstone National Park. It was only an 80 mile drive but it took a couple of hours with several spots of horrible construction going on where I had to stop and wait for a pilot car to guide me through the construction zone. In addition to the construction there were several stops to take pictures of the Teton Mountain range on the way. I was told that the NE part of the park was the best for seeing wildlife, so I was determined to make it there. The drive through the park was incredible, it was probably less than 100 miles, but it took me about four hours to find a campsite, because I was ... read more

070724 Lazy L&B Ranch, Dubois, WY Driving from Idaho Falls through eastern Idaho and into Wyoming was a great drive. Jackson, Wyoming is a cool looking town, I’m going to stop by at some point in the future as I’ve recently met someone who’s going to be living there, John, is one of the wranglers at the Lazy L&B Ranch. Coming into Wyoming and passing through Teton National Park was amazing…Dubois, the town with the ranch was only 55 miles from Jackson so I expected it to be the same amazing forested, mountainous landscape as the Tetons. I was getting excited! The 55 mile drive between the Jackson and Dubios took 1.5 hours due to the construction they were doing on the highway. Eventually the road started going down, out of the mountains and my apprehension ... read more

Got up early again today, it gets cold here at night….in the morning you can still see your breath. Last night I watched Shooter on my laptop, I liked it. The cinematography was great, the special effects at the beginning were really good. I thought it was going to be a lame action movie, but it was a great action flick. What’s up with Danny Glover? He’s got a serious lisp going on, did he have a stroke or something? The previous night I watched Evan Almighty and I was might disappointed. Not that I thought it was going to be amazing or anything. I had downloaded them while sitting in Barnes and Nobles the other day. Tonight I’m going to watch The Hills Have Eyes 2. I’m sitting in the AC of my truck ... read more

I woke up with the sun, around 5 or 5:30, it was damn cold. I tried to start a fire, but it turned out to be too much trouble and I was getting light headed from trying to blow on the coals. I just used my backpacking stove and made instant oatmeal and hot chocolate and warmed my hands with the stove while the water boiled. After eating, cleaning up (washing my tattoos in the cold morning was...well...cold!), and putting my gear in the truck I got to the trailhead for the Bristlecone Grove and Glacier about 7. The forest was amazing, I've never hiked in such a dense forest with so many different kinds of trees. Back home it's mostly just plain old pine and they're ususally spaced fairly far apart. The ground was ... read more

I left Vegas around noon after running around a bit to Big 5 to buy some more clothes and the dollar store for some more junk. I've got everything in my truck, my bike, a bunch of clothes, blankets and pillow, all of my camping & backpacking gear, food box, ice chest, and laptop bag. It took about 6 hours to drive the three hundred and some odd miles. I took my time and stopped at a couple of places, like Cathedral Gorge that were interesting, but I only have a limited amount of photospace on this site, so I'm not posting those pictures. I got to Baker Nevada about 5:30 and it took about another 30 minutes to climb the twelve miles up Wheeler Peak and find a campsite. There were three camping areas, I ... read more

On the way to Idaho I'm stopping off in Las Vegas. There are two resons for this, one it's my friend Ericka's birthday...Happy Birthday Ericka...29th...right?, and secondly I haven't played poker in almost a month and I need my fix. I played in a $60 tournament and out of 50 people I beat out 10...not too bad I suppose, but not worth any money! I stayed with Mandy, who I met on Couchsurfing.com and then went out for a little while with Ericka. I didn't want to stay out too late because I had to figure out where I was going to stay the next night and plan accordingly.... read more
