The King of the Jungle - From: Gorillas in the Mist
Hi to you both. Petra & Lincoln: Just enjoyed seeing the many photos of the Gorillas. It would have been amazing to witness such big ,scary but beautiful giants. Lincoln: I liked the jungle photos. I bet you it would have been scary with huge animals like you saw. Petra: If I witnessed that I would have been excited, happy, scared and surprised all at the same time. I hope you enjoyed your stay in Africa. Looking forward to reading your next blog. Petra & Lincoln: Miss you both. Love you XXXXX... OOOOO...

Exciting pictures - From: On Safari - The Big One
Now I can't wait for my August safari. What fab photos and so lucky in what you saw. Do you have a whizzy type of camera, should I buy a new one before I go?! I am interested in your school too. I am a Reception teacher in UK. I lost my husband last summer and when my kids (15/17) leave home I think I would like to go and teach elsewhere. Do you recommend it?

- From: Another half term in Africa
Thanks for the message. We are working at The School of St Jude (Rachel teaches, I am Accountant) in Arusha and found out about this when we heard the head of the school being interviewed back in Australia a few years ago. We are here for a year. You can check out the school at www.schoolofstjude.co.tz. We stayed just near Jambiani when in Zanzibar when we stayed at Paje on the east coast. Nice part of Zanzibar but maybe a little quite as mainly locals and few tourists. There are a few resorts a little further up the beach but is a nice area. Do not know anything about Saadani, sorry. Let us know if you have any more questions. Lots of schools in Arusha area that probably require teachers also - as do most places

Zanzibar & teaching - From: Another half term in Africa
Hi Rachel and Simon: Just signed on to travelblog as we are travelling from Canada to Kenya and Zanzibar in July (can hardly wait!) Three of us are teachers, so I am intrigued where you are teaching and how you got there. We intend to connect with the Medical Clinic in Jambiani and understand there is a school attached to the organization (people from Canada began the clinic) Can you tell us if you know anything of Saadani (Tent with a View) as we are considering doing a 3-4 day safari there and it is not cheap. Take care - have fun - hope the bug has left Rachel. B

What you describe as the town hall actually is the Parliament building, recently renovated and re-opened. The Vienna Town Hall is right next to the Parliament, a bit further north.

Hi Jessica, yes it would appear that in most african schools beatings can be the norm, but fortunately at our school its banned. With the kids knowing that phyiscal punishment is not on the agenda the teachers have to find other ways of keeping order in the classroom.

Cripes Mate! I thought you were on Holiday! - From: African Adventures Part 2
Cripes Si and Rach that routine over there is making me feel tired just reading it....I am sitting here sipping a port & lemon (real mans drink) thinking "You could do with a holiday away from your holiday"... looks fascinating though ... I saw that "Rice Rock" yum yum loverly.... So I guess you need some false teeth with the soft "Dunny Rolls" too. Back here in Blighty we are having a very mild winter.... with a few cold blasts..snowed down here in Sussex one day and I spun the old Volvo off the road...crash! bang! wallop! burst the front wheel spun all over the place, stayed upright and was glad to be in an old Volvo.. Mild again now the spring flowers are coming out and the bird song is deafening. Valentines night last night and Auntie Lizzie and I went to a folk club in Arundel where I played accordion and sung on stage. I said I would treat Her for valentines, well it did cost two quid each to get in. Nothing like spoiling the "Old Ducks". Keep em peeled, swot a mozzie for me and as they say in today's parlance "Enjoy".... Lots O love from your old Uncle Billy and Auntie Lizzie.

Hi Rach & Simon, WOW!!! Sounds amazing - and VERY different to our schools here. The blackboard message and fines is quite scary - could you imagine if we even JOKINGLY suggested something like that here??? Rach - are there any resources you need that I could send over??? Either teaching texts or simple things like stickers, stamps etc that the kids might enjoy??? - Let me know. Keep up the good work both of you. V.xxx

What can we do to help - From: Arrival in Africa
Sounds like you are settling in well and it is a huge experience that you will never forget. Reading about the children and their backgrounds just wondering what we could do to help. simon - we talked before you left about sports equipment etc for football 9shirts , balls etc0 vene if it is just soemthing small we could send over that would be fun or something bigger eg books - can you think about it and see if there is an easy way to get something over and then suggest what could make a difference to you. Keep working on avoiding malaria Susan

As before, I have loved, loved , loved catching up on your travels - and can't wait for the next installment. Especially loved the pics of Vienna - at last somewhere I had been to and recognised beyond Catriona and pals LOL. You are both looking very relaxed and happy - eternal holidaying really suits you, pity it can't become a career move. In awe and envy - yours, Veronyka xxx

Dachau Concentration Camp Memoria - From: Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial
Yes, the words 'humankind' or indeed 'human kind' is a fragile concept. It is not an abstract thought nor unidealatistic, however, when we see so much suffering in the world it is remarkable that there is peace at all in the international community. Truly, a worthwhile endeavour to pursue. PAX.

LOL Have LOVED reading your adventures thus far and hanging out for teh next installment. Take Care, Love Veronyka, Peter & the girls
