| 30th November 2008 hannie hofland | - From: Man grows cucumber. Hello Rachel and Marc, As you don't know me, I think I'd better introduce myself. I'm Annet's mother, the Dutch medical student you so warmly welcomed into your community of volunteers at Mwaya Beach. Being the mother of a young girl backpacking entirely on her own I was, of course, deeply worried about her well being. Still, I've supported her for pursuing this long existing, deeply felt longing of hers to travel to Africa, to get to know its people and to do part of her study of medicine in a very poor African country. She is a person of ideals and you've given her the opportunity to combine all these aspects in letting her work with you. I'm very grateful to you for all this! I've read most of your weblog entries. All in all, this presents the two of you as very inspiring people. I respect you very much for what you are doing for the Ripple project, and it makes me appreciate you even more for allowing my daughter into your project. I wish you all the best in your work in Malawi and I hope that after your period of voluntary work in Malawi, you will get back to Great Britain safe and sound! Kind regards, Hannie |
