Nice Pictures! - From: So Sorry!
Becca, That was great to get another blog from you. Glad you have the wireless card now. That little Mountain Plover looks pretty cute, but how do you ever find those nests? I could not find the Plover in the one picture. Hope the job is going much more smoothly and that your next three weeks will go quickly. Love, Grandma

Congratulations! - From: Buen Noticias
Dear Becca, Congratulations on receiving the Fellowship at Cornell. We are so happy for you as we realize this is what your were hoping for. Your Dad called last night and he was so excited about your good news too. Sounds like a great deal and should keep you very busy for a few years! That was a scary story about getting lost in the forest. Glad you have a good strong voice and could get someone's attention to rescue you. We really didn't want to travel to Ecuador to find you in that deep dark forest, but we would have tried! We look forward to seeing some more pictures from Ecuador. Let us know when you are back in the "good Ole US of A". Love, Grandma & Grandpa

Tomate - From: Buen noticias, Tomate, y un gato salvaje
Congratulations on Colorado, Becca! Any chance of lobbying for a larger cage for Tomate? Ze looks a bit cramped in there.* And I'm glad to hear that you're attracting potentailly dangerous animals to your living area with delcious baked goods. Espero que vas a encontrar muchas aves bonitas y interesantes mientras vives en el bosque . . . creo esos van a ser meses importantes en su vida. (Don't make fun! I haven't had a class in five years!) Keep sending pictures! * Neutral pronoun used in the interest of not imposing human gender norms on the cuddly woodland creature.** ** Kidding, of course.

Have you been to the preserve that borders Yanayacu? Are the any other ornithologists there? What's the story on the colorful columns in the dining area? What ARE you looking for in the tapes? When you write your paper will you publish it? If so, where? Seen any night jars yet? Keep it coming! MOM

Food in the Cloud Forest - From: Yanayacu Estacion
What is your typical meal at Yanayacu? Is the coffee good? Can you get a picture of the microhydroelectric plant? What are you looking for in the tapes of the nest? Birding in our backyard has yielded lots of wild turkeys and juncos.

Great Pics! - From: Azúcar y Enfermedad
Wonderful pictures, Rebecca! After seeing how they made that candy, I'm not sure that's the best thing to eat for a person with "an illness". Perhaps there's a reason it came back with a vengance? Keep us posted. I can't wait to hear about Harold and the rain forest. MOM

Great Pictures - From: Más fotos
Great Pictures Becca! I like the pics of the wildlife, but I also really like the pictures from your window or balcony, and the pics with the people you've met. The pictures remind me of "The Mortorcycle Diaries". You need to pick up some native garb, and you'll fit right in. XOX MOM

Butterfly Farming Question - From: ¡Aves, aves, aves!
When I was in Puerto Rico I saw a shop with artwork that was ~50 Monarch butterflies in formation. It was extremely cool. The literature said that they didn't kill the butterflies, but that they were raised on a butterfly farm and had died naturally. So is that the case? Keep up the blog this is great fun.
