Hola!! Arrived in Quito after a nightmare 53 hour bus journey from north Colombia! Thankfully I didnt have to do it on my own as Dave, Australian guy from the Lost City tour, was on his way to Ecuador too! We got the overnight bus to Bogota with Alan, Irish guy from the Lost City tour, which was actually really comfortable and slept for about 11 hours which is a record for the bus! :o) Then Dave and I carried on to Ecuador, however, thats when our luck with buses ran out as we stupidly went for the cheaper option which [View Full Entry]

Hey everyone!! Sorry its been ages since my last blog but things have been a bit crazy recently! OK.... here are the bits i was in too much of a rush to put in the last blog about the Lost City as well as the other photos! :o) History lesson... :o) ..... Ciudad Perdida (Lost City) is one of the largest pre-Colombian towns discovered in the Americas. It was built between the 11-14 centuries. When the Spaniards invaded the Tayronas (the local people who lived in the "Tyrona" region) were completely wiped out - they were either killed, died from diseases [View Full Entry]

Hey everyone!! Will have to try and make this a quick one as we have to get the bus down to Bogota soonish! The Lost City trek was amazing! It is by far the most challenging thing i think i have ever done but it was soooo worth it and im so glad i did it! We went with Magic Tours who were amazing! We got picked up at 7am (with Esther telling them to go and pick up the others first so that we could finish breakfast hehe!) and all squeezed into a tiny jeep around the food supplies! Hey everyone!! Ended up having to stay in Cartagena even longer than planned as my debit card wasnt working so had to wait a few days for that! Finally left at 5am on Friday and got a 4 hour bus to Santa Marta and then a taxi to Taganga! An American girl recommended a hostel to me which I went to - soooo nice! Pool, amazing breakfast, hammocks, free internet etc! :o) Was looking forward to trying to get a tan by the pool that afternoon but unfortunately it rained so just went for lunch with some Finnish guys, read and [View Full Entry]

Hello!!! We had one last yummy breakfast in the hostel on Sunday morning and then got the bus to Armenia, where we then got a 6 hour bus to Medellin! Paula gave us an altitude sickness tablet which knocked us all out….have never slept so well on a bus hehe! Had lunch at the bus station and then got a bus up to Santa Elena which took nearly an hour! There Paulas uncle and his girlfriend picked us up! They don’t really speak any English but are soo lovely! Its so sad though - the girlfriend, Janeth, is in a wheelchair [View Full Entry]

Heylo everyone! OK here comes the first of three entries for the last week!!....... Last Thursday, Paulas parents took us to Bogota train station for 6am, where we got the bus to Armania. Freaked ourselves out a little bit before boarding the bus as Paula had been chatting to a woman, who had asked her where Siemei and I were from, where we were going etc., and then left! I didn’t really think anything of it, as everyone here is so chatty and friendly but Paula started panicking a bit saying she had to stop giving out so much information about [View Full Entry]

Hey everyone!! Landed in Bogota on Friday afternoon! Flight was OK apart from a long queue for security as the Xray mashine wasnt working so they were checking everyones bags by hand.... not very well i might add! Paula boarded the plane with a Swiss Army knife, a lighter, matches and goodness what else! And goodness knows what was in the deep depths of my bag.... havent emptied it out in a looong time and you know what my bags are like... Mary Poppins bags!! :o) Flight was OK, only took 2 hours, but managed to have the luck of sitting [View Full Entry]

One of Crucifix Statues

Hey everyone!! Sorry i havent done an update for ages but things have been quite crazy the last few weeks!! Finally arrived in Tabachinga after 6 days on the Amazon boat and got a taxi over the border to Leticia (Colombia) after stamping out of Brazil, - the change between countries was sooo obvious, once in Colombia the streets were lined with police and military men, armed with massive maschine guns... was quite scary but reassuring at the same time! After learning a bit of Spanish on the boat, I even managed to have a tiny political conversation with the taxi [View Full Entry]
