So, here in Denmark, they have a formal dance similar to the American Prom. It's called Galla. Everyone gets dressed up and has dinner and has a dance. Only the 3rd years get really into it and dress up. It's their last dance and all so they get really into it and have a very formal dance and fun pictures and just party all night!! But being a second year, it wasn't that big for the rest of everyone else. Mainly it's a third year thing. but it was so much fun! And we had a formal dinner and fun music with live bands! So we danced all night and were with friends on the unforgettable Galla night!! =) Made me realize just how close i'd come to my Danish friends and how much i was ... read more
So i found out there was a Swedish Ski tour the 7th week and i wasn't planning on going because it was a tad expensive and i was saving for Euro Tour in May, but my host club Frederiksberg-Fakoner found out about it through my 3rd host Mor and they paid for it AND gave me extra money to spend while i was there!! 3 It was sooooo sweet and i later thanked them! 3 But my grade (2nd G) took a 12 hour bus ride to Branas, Sweden. We left at 19:00 from my school and got there at 07:00 on Thursday. Then we grabbed our ski stuff and started skiing!! 3 The first day was immediately started on a Blue and this being my 2nd time, i was nervous and actually really bad...But we ... read more
The day after i came back from La Santa, i moved into my 2nd host family. There's the host mother Rina, host father Henrik, and nine year old son Nils. Plus 2 half host siblings (from Henrik's previous marriage) that i never really see because they have moved out of the house and are a lot older. They have different tradtions but all Danes have certain traditions that they follow. I loved these traditions and had a blast this Xmas! We went to my host mother's sister's summer house and celebrated Xmas with her side of the family! It was wonderful! I even got 3 packages from my family back home and a package from my Grandma!! That was the best! But they celebrate traditions like: - All kids beleive in "nisse" which are Santa's helpers. ... read more
My entire second class and i headed to La Santa for PE. Physical Education!! Can you beleive it?? But it was an intense week from November 14th to November 21st of pure exercise!! We worked out from 8:00 am to 11:00 at night. But somehow we found time to relaz in our swimsuits, get nice tans, and party at night. =P It was so much fun! W played everything from beach volleyball to basketball, to frisby to a final Triathelon. =) Which i did pretty well on! So i was a proud customer! =) Wow, so i woke up one fine Thursday morning. Got ready to go to school and was about to walk out the door when Esther said to me, "Hey, wanna go to Belgium?" And i said "Sure! When?" "Um, in an hour? =) Kristian's flight was canceled (the airline went bankrupt and outa business) and i am driving Kristian there." His best friend lives out in Belgium now and he was going to fly out to see him and stay with him for a week. But because it was canceled, Esther invited me! I was so shocked i jumped up and down and was SO in! =) So i called my counsoler, he said GO and i went! It was the longest drive of my life!!!! Even longer than going to Colorado! I thought rush ... read more
My host family and i left for Germany at 8:00 and took a ferry across. It was so much fun and the ferry was HUGE! Then we drove for a couple of hours and finally came to our hostel. We went shopping on the people street in the city of Lubeck. Everything was a heck of a lot cheaper in germany so my host family was buying a lot! :) We tried some marzipan (delicious but not sold in the states... :( ) cakes and ate aweseom German food! I had schnitzel! It was SO good and i totally wanted more after! :) Then we shopped some more! :) Haha! We went into different churches and looked at some of the history of Germany. It was really cool! :) That night, we ate at a very ... read more
This past week is autumn holiday! I have the whole week off to just relax! :) So Sarah came to Kobenhaven to spend one night with me! We went around the city and i showed her and her host family all my favorite places like the little mermaid and the Queen's castle. It was SO much fun and i enjoyed seeing her! I hadn't seen her in like a month so it was good to see my best friend! :) After Saturday night, Sunday we met her family at Tivoli! I have a card that gets me and 5 other people into Tivoili for FREE so i took her and her whole family in. Tivoli is an amusement park that like EVERY Dane knows. And LOVES!! So me and Sarah weren't wanting to ride all the ... read more
That night was Culture Night!! That means that the whole city of Kobenhaven was open until really really late that night!! So me and my host family went into the city to take advantage of low prices and lots of fun! We first ate at a cake shop called La Glace. It is the best cake i have ever tasted in my whole life!! I thought one peice wouldn't be enough but it filled me right up!! My host family and i ordered different cakes and then tried each others. Delicious!! So after wonderful cake and hot coca, we started to explore the city. We went into churches and museums that aren't usually open. Then we went into a candy factory to explore that. There was a competition of shooting a bow and arrow to win ... read more
The exchange students from Introcamp all REALLY wanted to see one another again so we planned a trip for them to come to Copenhagen and stay the whole weekend. Unfortunately, not everyone could attend but we were able to get the majority or at least a large group. :) So Friday night, we planned to go to Tivoli for the Alphabeat concert. Alphabeat is a popular group here so we were all very excited to see them live and in concert! (Duncan look up Alphabeat. I think you'll like their songs...Maybe...My favorites are "Fascination" and "Boyfriend") So after the concert we all went to check out the night life of Copenhagen. It was so wonderful to see everyone and get together to hang out! That night Scott (from Oregon) stayed at my house and together we ... read more
Sunday we went to a horse race just outside Copenhagen. It was a special day where all the ladies got in for free. My host Mor, Esther, had been looking forward to it for a whole month or longer!! She told me that all the ladies wore large hats and looked terrific! And boy was it true! I chose a big red hat and Mor chose a yellow one. Then we decorated them with fun stuff we could find. Mine was decorated with roses and ivy while Mor's was decorated with green grapes and ivy. We called me "the rose girl" but i think i ended up looking like a cowgirl!! My Mor just laughed and told me that i couldn't ALWAYS be a cowgirl!! Haha! We went to the horse race and placed bets on ... read more
