| 13th November 2009 Podgyboy | - From: Savour the Journey - Fraser Island and the Whitsunday Islands hey, thanks for your comments. we traveled from Brisbane to Frasier Island on the Greyhound bus. we already had an open ticket so i'm not sure on the cost. It's a few hours but we split it up by visiting Australia Zoo along the way. You have to catch a ferry to get to the island. we went from Hervey Bay but i think there is another place, Rainbow something but i can't remember for sure. we spent 3 days and 2 nights on the island in total & thats probably enough to have you sick of sand! the overnight bus from Hervey Bay to Airlie Beach was packed so we didn't get much sleep. depends how you cope with that i suppose. then we spent 3 days 2 nights again on the Whitsundays but it was really more like 48 hours because we left at 4pm on weds & got back 2pm Fri. I hope this helps & i hope you enjoy your trip! any more questions i'll be happy to help. Dan |
| 2nd November 2009 Jo | Sounds like a great trip. - From: Savour the Journey - Fraser Island and the Whitsunday Islands We were thinking of doing a similar trip over the December holidays. Can I ask you a few questions. How did you travel from Brisbane to Fraser Island? How many days on Fraser Island? From Fraser Island to Whitsunday Islands was an overnight bus. Did you get any sleep? How many nights on Whitsunday Island. |
| 21st July 2009 jackie Hodgetts | love the van - From: The Sacred Poor Knights Islands hi dan, wow what a brilliant, funky van. i loved the pictures of the diving with sharks, they looked amazing and really re enforce what i am missing out on not being able to dive. if that wasn't enough the playing with seals just sounds absolutely incredible. i think you can take me in our pond for a few lessons when you get home. do you have any photos from that dive? we're still really enjoying reading the blogs and well done for keeping them up to date. all well at home although pretty boring compared to your experiences keep having fun x mum and dad |
| 3rd July 2009 David Thatcher | Bike Ride - From: Banged up abroad and a huge hunpback Hi Danny, looks like the trip is going brilliantly - bringing back lots of memories of last year and I am very jealous! If you are still near SF it is worth hiring bikes, you can cycle over the Golden gat bridge, free wheel all the way down to Sausalito on the other side for lunch then get the ferry back to SF... a really good day out when we did it! |
| 3rd July 2009 Jon | Keep it up, and camera tips - From: Banged up abroad and a huge hunpback Hi Dan. Sounds like you're having a great trip so far. We're having fun here with dozens of pkgs files and content that's been up to 630KB plus. Thanks for the regular updates: it can start to seem a lot of effort to blog when you're travelling and maybe even a bit pointless at times, but just remember everyone back home is appreciating it. You've mentioned a couple of camera problems: Firstly, you said your camera stopped working in the cold & wet. I'm not sure in what way it stopped working, but if it was the cold rather than the wet, often the problem is with the batteries which don't work well in the cold. It's worth trying just taking the battery out of the camera and putting it somewhere warm for a few minutes (I'm sure you'd find a suitable location in your clothing). This will usually bring it to life, at least until it has time to get cold again. Secondly, you said your camera wasn't quick enough to capture the whale's tail, and I wondered whether you were aware of the two-stage shutter release. When taking a photo, pressing the shutter button down half-way causes the camera to focus, take initial exposure readings, analyse the conditions etc., and pressing it the rest of the way goes ahead with taking the shot. If you're trying to catch a brief moment, no compact camera is ideal but if you squeeze the shutter half-way and keep it half-way while you wait for the moment you want to catch, you should do a lot better than just stabbing at the shutter release. Sorry if you were doing any of these things already. Meanwhile, continue to have fun and keep blogging! Cheers, Jon. |
