Hello world, there's a song that we're singin', Come on and get happy. A whole lotta lovin' is what we'll be bringing, We'll make you happy!" Yep if you guessed the Partridge Family "Come on Get Happy" song, you just won yourself 50 pesos. Now you just have to make your way to Playa to collect it. How is everyone? Did Ottawa get a snowfall? We got hmm, around 20-25 cms of NOTHING. Heh heh heh. (Isn't it great I can amuse myself?) I almost hesitate to write because I really don't have any great adventure to tell. Al would if he started to tell you about his diving expeditions! Wow... It's 7:00 am and I'm sitting here on my cozy balcony sipping my coffee all by my lonesome watching the beach slowly come alive. The ... read more

"People say you can't live without love, but I think oxygen is more important." ~ Good Wednesday (MiƩrcoles) morning. Another sunny day at the outpost. A few fluffy clouds in the sky, and the birds are singing and the palm trees are gently waving. It's been cool in the morning, but it manages to warm up to 25 and then off goes the sweatshirt. We're heading out shortly for our first breakfast on the beach and to see one of our favorite waiters, Juan. They make a wonderful breakfast & a very bubbly Champagne & OJ (happy dance). So here's a bit of a geography lesson. The Riviera Maya is considered the jewel of Mexico, and occupies 70 miles of beautiful coastline, adorned by white sand beaches and turquoise waters unique to the Caribbean Sea. From ... read more

"May your joy be as deep as the ocean, your sorrow as light as its foam". ~ Buenas Dias all from the sunny shores of Playa. Nothing like waking to the sound of the waves crashing against the shore. It was perfect to leave our windows open all night which was SO soothing. I opened my eyes and saw a sliver of tangerine gleaming through the curtains. What a fabulous sight. I quietly got up and peaked out the window and the sun was rising about 6:30 am. Then well I hopped back into bed for another few zzzzzz's. Our king bed is so comfy; feels like a brand new pillow-top mattress and fluffy pillows. This is a beautifully decorated condo, and every amenity you can think of we have. Big screen TV, DVD/CD, iPod player ... read more

"Blue skies, smilin' at me, nothing but blue skies do I see..." (Ella Fitzgerald) For those of you wondering, we arrived safe & sound in Playa today after taking a 5:45 am flight & arriving nice & early at 9:33 this morning. Walking out of the airport to beautiful weather; 25C & that's without the humma-ditty. (I can hear you all grumbling right now at the mere mention of warm sunny weather). It was gusting snow & bitter when we left the house at 3:30 am. It's hard to believe you leave -20 degree weather and a little over 4 hours later the warm sun envelops you in its glorious arms. It's wonderful to be back to our old stomping grounds, being met by our wonderful driver Jaime. It is also wonderful to have mom join ... read more

I feel like I should be wailing the old Hank Williams tune, "It's All But Over For the Crying"... Coming home is never easy; even when you miss home. It was a fabulous trip overall & perhaps one of our best trips ever. This little blog of mine has offered me a chance to chronicle our trips, share adventures and in the future allow our kids the opportunity to read all we did over the years travel-wise to Mexico and other destinations including Disney World last year (see other trips if you wish to read!). OUR LAST FEW DAYS IN PARADISE Thursday was a great day; lunch at the end of town, and a long walk along the beach. We gals enjoyed our last dinner out being serenaded by a mariachi group, and I surprised Sue ... read more

Friendship must be built on a solid foundation of alcohol, sarcasm, inappropriateness and shenanigans. I can vouch for the fact the above statement is so true!!!! Lots of shenanigans!!! (Very little alcohol...hahahaha) Other than relaxing on the beach and eating good food and sharing good company, we've just overall been enjoying our girls' trip. Lots of laughs and lounging. The condo allows for everyone to have their own space whether in the condo itself, or at the pool, on the beach or walking around town. Sunday we did enjoy beach BBQ and the food was excellent. We sat there for hours feeling the breeze sitting under the palm trees. The beach club was having a wedding, so we stuck around to see it. The bride was beautiful, and the beach side setting beautifully decorated. It reminded ... read more

Greetings all, and happy Domingo (Sunday) from sunny Playa del Carmen which is expected to be 32C today with a 46C humidex. Thankfully someone installed an ocean around here otherwise we'd be in big trouble :> Things I like... Hanging with my friends on the beach, sipping drinks & laughing about life. Things I don't like... My child throwing up all night, and being sick all day. Things for Rory started to turn around by noon on Saturday when I realized the medication the doctor would give her, I could get at a pharmacy. I researched it, and it did say it was a safe drug to take, but not for any great length of time as it could cause some side effects. I know Rory; when she gets ill, she's violently ill, then if she ... read more

See you later alligator, after a while crocodile, Bye-bye butterfly, be sweet parakeet. See you soon raccoon, blow a kiss goldfish, Take care polar bear, so long king kong. Toodle-loo, kangaroo. Ahhh good-byes are hard. Al, Lara, Ray & Pat left on Thursday to go home. As mentioned, Marth, myself, Rory & Ava are staying on till July 25th, with my girlfriends coming to join us. With Ray and Pat out west in Alberta, it's always hard to say good-bye. It's hard for the girls too, not to see their grandparents, then get 2 solid weeks with them and then have to say goodbye again for at least 6 months to a year. And it was hard to say goodbye to my marido (husband) and Lara, but as I said, let the good times roll with ... read more

Louis Armstrong sang it best. I see trees of green, red roses too. I see them bloom, for me and you. And I think to myself, what a wonderful world. I see skies of blue, And clouds of white. BBQ rules: Don't touch another man's "grill". Where there's smoke, there's flavor. It's acceptable to eat with your fingers. "Sauce" happens! Moaning while eating is considered a compliment. Things I love. Beach BBQs & the unmistakable smell of charcoal... I think it's safe to say we all love the smell of BBQ & charcoal and we got to bask in some charcoal BBQ yesterday. As mentioned Sundays are big here in Playa for beach BBQ. We met the gang on the beach to enjoy BBQ/lunch at the Indigo Club; a bali themed/exotic beach club with a couple of big barbecue's smoking, and chefs in white top hats putting out some really good grill. This beach club is part of a very high end condo hotel (Playa Beach Getaways manages properties here) and I think some of ... read more
