"The bad news is time flies. The good news is you're the pilot". And now, a word from our sponsor. (OK I'm the sponsor, and here's the word!) MONDAY/TUESDAY Hope this blog finds you all well and enjoying the summer weather. We've settled into a routine here even though I was a bit homesick and my mind is on things back home as my Dad has not been feeling the best but he's in darn good hands. (Drop me a line Bar when you can.) The first few days we put our nose to the grindstone taking photos of the condos for the company. Al's new camera equipment has made the photos pop. Monday co-operated & was a bright sunny day & the Caribbean exuded that jaw-dropping myriad of colors that made for perfect travel magazine ... read more

EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT (OR DON'T!) Well, at the last minute Al & I made a run for it. We have gotten the heck out of Dodge as they say - Bonnie & Clyde are on the lam! Normally this time of year we'd already be in Mexico with the family, enjoying some of my work perks but this year due to my dad experiencing some ill health, I didn't want to commit to plans. However, due to a bit of a turnaround and thanks to my wonderful siblings (as well as a few others) who have stepped up to the plate in an amazing way, we were encouraged to make last minute plans. Thank you all SO much. Ahhhh, back to paradise. Bienvendio! Unfortunately by the time we made the decision to go, ... read more

"If two people love each other nothing is impossible. Except deciding where to eat." ;) Hi all, gee I think it's been well over a week since I checked in. We haven't been passed out under a palm tree from too much tropical living just so you know! Time got away from me, and the draft blog I started stayed saved. To sum up our trip now that we are home, is wow. We feel very blessed to have had this opportunity to go off on our own, and we don't take it for granted for one second. While this trip ended up being very busy with work, it was very productive and yet very relaxing. To say we were 'working' while being in a sunny paradise would be a big misnomer. If you usually ask ... read more

"Music is a piece of art that goes in the ears and and straight to the heart". Al and I love music and there's no shortage of it here in the Riviera Maya. Stroll the beach and live music is flowing along with the sounds of laughter and glasses clinking. Then at night, 5th avenue is filled with the sounds of strolling mariachis, rock bands, and jazz trios. It's a big draw for the bars and restaurants to have live music. Music forms an integral part of our lives. Music can evoke memories of our childhood, past and current relationships, and can bring you back to a place and time in an instant. It is the thread of life, connecting us as family and friends. Funny how music can make us so damn happy one minute ... read more

"Don't be easy to define. Let them wonder about you". ~ Hey there, you really cool great looking amigas/amigos! How the heck are you? Missed me at all? Thanks for humoring me. For those of you back home facing snow, I'd like to make you feel better by telling you that we are having freezing cold rainy weather, but I'd be pulling your right leg (and your left one too. :) The beaches are full, music fills the air, and 5th avenue is bustling. It's heartwarming to be back and see how everyone is bouncing back from recent events. The weather has been some of the best weather I've experienced here in January. You'll always get sup-tropical weather here but if it's windy it can feel cool when you're not on the beach. Last few days ... read more

"My New Year's resolution is to stop hanging out with people who keep asking me about my New Year's resolutions". ~ Happy New Year to our family & friends, and the wonderful travel blog community that I am happy to be a part of. For the 3rd time since we've had our kids, Al and I are heading off ALONE without the kids. Vive Mexico. (Yep I'm doing the 'Snoopy' happy dance.) I'm actually going for work & pleasure as I'll be arranging a photo & video shoot of a few oceanfront condos my company represents. Trust me, there'll still be lots of time for exploring, diving, margaritas and swinging ourselves silly in a hammock. It's our 20th anniversary this year (Al is such a lucky dog!) so it's a great excuse to get away alone. ... read more

"Take a quiet walk with Mother Nature. It will nurture your mind, body and soul'. ~ Come away with me, to a place that is serene, filled with nature, and overflowing with beauty. Brimming with flora and fauna (plants & animals), teeming with ponds, lagoons, underground rivers, cenotes, wildlife, & luscious mangroves. The air filled with hummingbirds, bees, and dragonflies; dragonflies in almost every color of the rainbow - red, purple, blue, green...(Did you know that dragonflies follow the same flyways as migrating birds, often traveling 100 miles in one day?) Poor dragonflies - "don't get no respect" as per comedian Rodney Dangerfield ? Being in the Riviera Maya is like being revitalized. Perhaps it's the glorious tangerine sunrises, or the way the sun sashays in for a final appearance at sunset and has the clouds ... read more

"The earth has its music for those who will listen". ~ Our big Mayan Adventure continues...Honestly I almost am out of superlatives and adjectives & big fancy words to say how fantastic this summer trip has been. First with my family: Al and our girls Rory and Ava, along with Al's parents, and now Marth. We are so blessed to enjoy stays in a spectacular oceanfront condo in Playa, and wake to eye-candy views of the ocean every day. I'm completely rejuventated, recharged and revamped! :) Almost a week has passed since Martha arrived to join me here when Allan and the girls went home. I tell you, she settled in like she owned the place ;) I'm calling her Gumby for the level of relaxation she's taking this to! She deserves it after starting a ... read more

'All good things must come to an end, but I wouldn't have wanted it to end any other way with any other people"... Well after 18 days of a wonderful family vacation in Playa, Al and the girls left Weds. for home. WAH. Ava said goodbye to the condo at least 5 times and to me about 20 times because I'm actually staying on for a bit. I was a bit melancholy to see the family go as it means one more summer of memories packed away from Playa. Next year Rory will almost be 16. Ava 12 and Lara 18. Wow. Plus I miss my sidekick Al (insert hearts here). Of course mama bear had to make sure they were all organized (did you look under the bed for any clothes? Get your stuff out ... read more

"Fantasy and reality often overlap". ~ Walt Disney Hola family & friends. Have you been wondering if I got hit on the head with a coconut on my birthday, & therefore unable to write a blog for a week? Well close. After I posted my blog on my birthday (July 4th) things went downhill. I was like a lyric out of a Frank Sinatra song. Riding high in April and shot down in May... Or shot down in July. It wasn't food poisoning just a little bug which caused some chills and a slight fever and was TOTALLY annoying. I so rarely get a flu and then in July in Mexic? HELLOOO? After a few days of this nonsense, I was saying 'uncle' let me tell you. The following day (July 5th) was Al & my ... read more
