This week I fell twice, got extorted once, broke a spoke, drove an entire day trough el Chaco without water, had close encounters with a hundreds of exotic birds, drove four straight days over a dirt-road trough the Andes, went to see the world's biggest dam, drove 595km(record yes) in one day over the Bolivian altiplano, drank some water, ate like a king, drove trough a zillion holes in the road, ate even better than a king, went to see the world's second most impressive waterfalls but undoubtedly the best of all … arrived in Brazil!! Since my last post left me in La Paz and I'm currently at the Costa Verde I guess I should tell you about the journey which took me here... and boy what a journey it was :D So from La ... read more

So after marvellous Machu Picchu it was time for the last sight of Peru, and the first of Bolivia, being lake Titicaca. For those of you who don't know, Titicaca is considered to be the highest navigable lake(meaning boats can sail, or whatever it is boats do, on it) and people say the skies are brighter and bluer there than anywhere else in the world. But first... I had to get there. From Cusco to Puno, at the shores of Titicaca(3.800m), it was a fairly easy ride, despite passing at 4.500m. And well, I found it to be quite funny that when I stopped while climbing to this highest point(if I may add, it was snowing gently) the zipper of my only jacket died on me. So now the only thing protecting me(this is actually quite ... read more

Once I mastered the craft of surfing(or had enough of embarrassing myself ;) ) I figured it was time for me to move on. So in a full day of biking fun I reached the hiking capital of Peru, Huaraz, where... I didn't really have a solid reason for going since I am not a big fan of hiking. But I went anyway, partially due to that it was only a 'small' detour and partially because I met a nice girl in Chachapoyas who was also a guide there. And thus on my first day in Huaraz I met up with the girl, had some lunch and she explained to me how to get to Chavin de Huantar, a close to 4.000year old historical site in the area. We also decided to do a one-day hike ... read more

Jeez, talking about a writers block... Ok, by chance really, I found out about this amazing historical site in the northern mountainous region of Peru. And again I had no clue that there were some equally cool waterfalls nearby and another cool site on top of that! So yes, I was a bit happy that the trip to Chachapoyas was more than worth it after all. Besides most of it being a total surprise, my four days there were pretty standard, which was a welcome change of pace after the previous week. As every road in the area, besides the one access road I came by, were dirt-roads I opted to go with organised trips instead of putting my bike(and me) trough any more hardship... The first day took us to the great fortified city of ... read more

So, there I was, sitting in a pick-up truck on a cevlar-vest with the stock of a rifle tucked away behind my heals. I couldn't see what kind of rifle since the luggage of the tree men escorting me was covering the rest. But I guess it doesn't really matter what kind of rifle it was and I should tell the story as it happened... But before I do so I would like to let everyone know that it turned out for the best and that I am allllright ...prepare for some shockers though ;D So after my two days in Quito, during which I explored the historical centre, mirador and whatnot together with a nice Swiss girl I decided to move on towards the next stop, Baños. Baños is a nice little town, tucked away ... read more

Allright, seriously, picture this; it's about 10am in the morning and you've been driving your little motorbike for about an hour and half trough, what seems, an endless stretch of clouds. Yes, not mist, but clouds. Since you're at over 3000m altitude up in the Andes they're called clouds. It's not raining(it can't rain inside of clouds I guess) but you're getting wet all the same, the temperature is... well, less than loveable. While you haven't seen a single ray of sunshine on this cursed day, the bike is struggling to keep pace, it seems not to like high altitude combined with going uphill. Your hands are enduring it all, the cold, the wind, the water.. the wind on the water on your hands oh god you would kill for a nice little restaurant with warm ... read more

Ok so Cartagena-Medellin was not “about little over 300km” as I had estimated by lookin at the map of Colombia, instead it was a whoppin 700(at least I estimated two out of tree digits right ;p ) and thus kept be busy for the better part of the last 3days XD But anyway, I made it and that's what matters... right? I can also add that everything I hoped for and feared when it comes to riding the bike came true :) The views are beyond awesome, all the little villages are really cool, it feels incredible and … my butt hurts like hell after an hour or so :/ Friday I got my international driver's license, which was the last part of the puzzle(I hope..) and thus meant that I could finally be on my ... read more

Hawdy folks! Kay, for starters, although I came to Santa Marta initially to do the Ciudad Perdida-trek, I decided not to go ahead with it for a number of reasons.(money being one of them) But anyway I never cared too much for it so no biggie. Instead I spend my days here taking it easy and doing some research... Research into how to ride a motorbike, a lot of sites say its not hard so I am feeling quite confident about the actual riding part. What I am more worried about is it being stolen in the night, as I wont always have a safe spot to put it. For the ones that did not figure it out by now, (this might come as a bit of a shock) I bought a motorbike. To be more ... read more

I left Panama-city in the early morning by public bus, which is always a bit of an adventure, towards Colon. There I had to find a connection to the little port-town of Puerto Lindo, which(with the help of a local fellah, people are really enormously friendly at times. If people back at home would be this friendly I would be suspicious of them :/ sad huh :'0 …) went surprisingly easy. So little time later I found myself having lunch by the beach, in a small town in Panama overlooking a gorgeous little bay filled with sailboats.... now which one will I be embarking on... ? I was supposed to wait here for my c'ptn, and so I did. Now while in Panama-city I got a list of boats which were available for doing this trip(this ... read more

Oioi, I'll start by telling what I will be doing in the coming week. I will be travelling to Colombia by pampampam ;p boat, a sailboat to be precise. The trip will start somewhere in the area of Colon, Panama. After setting sail we will be island hopping the San Blas islands for 3days(google San Blas if U want to see some really nice pictures ;) ) after which we will travel trough open sea to northern Colombia where we will sack the city of Cartagena ye-arrrr(this still needs to be discussed with the captain though, alternatively we might just dock instead in a peaceful manner..). And then from there I will make my way down to Ecuador etc... Kay, Panama City. Obviously when visiting this area one has to check out … aye, the canal. ... read more
